Variety reports that in addition to the stand-alone Obi-Wan Kenobi-movie, it's rumored to be a Boba Fett movie and a Jabba the Hutt story in the works. Heck, it's also rumored that a Yoda movie is being considered. If this is indeed true, it does seem to me that Disney is milking the cow to a too large degree and that the franchise might become diluted.

Of course they are milking the cow. They paid $4 billion for the cow and it is expected to produce milk. It's like buying the golden goose and not expecting to being able to sell the eggs. James Bond is up to 24 movies (26 with unofficials) and people still go and see them.

Disney demands a return on the investment so it will give the public what it thinks the public want. The quality of SW films going forward will all depend on good writers and their scripts. Origins films are popular in many movie franchises. SW has several favourite characters, so Disney will give them a back story in the shape of a movie.

I'm waiting for them to realise a series focussing on the X-Wing pilots / squads will get bums on seats. Then they can make the X-Wing book series into films. Yub Yub. :xwing: :xwing:

Oh, I didn't question Disney milking the cow, I questioned whether Disney is milking too much out of it oversaturating the market which might lead to a decrease in quality.

If there indeed are more stand-alones planned, I would want to see them going into other directions.

EDIT: I agree with the sentiment in this Nerdist article (though I liked the prequels... well, with the exception of TPM):

Considering other movie franchises (Marvel & DC) these days are releasing more than one movie in a year, LFL isn't milking the cow excessively. I think Disney are scared of new stories as the sequels perceived as a poorer product to the OT. A rehash of ANH (TFA) broke records so this assures Disney to to reboot old storylines.

The studio system is no longer willing to branch out with new ideas when a reboot "remake" is a safer bet of return. How many more times can they re-image Superman, Batman and Spiderman?

Well, I suppose you're right, Pep. Disney is of course in for the money. And one shouldn't jump to conclusions beforehand.

Here is a link to ABC news with a quote from LFL confirming there are still unknown SW stand alones in production. Considering ABC and LFL are both owned by Disney this seems a solid rebuke to the above rumour.

Yes, I read that earlier today. However, I think it would be for the best if the projects were put on hold and for LFL/Disney to create a proper strategy. It's also possible that both are true... From a certain point of view.

It concerns me that they didn't do this going into the PT and the other standalone movies. It should have been obvious from the outset that they needed a plan. I just hope that the apparent lack of one doesn't see us, the fans, have our hopes completely dashed.

There is some excellent scope for many, many standalone movies. Disney have already shown it is possible with Marvel. I am just worried they are going to lose interest.

I guess Disney are going to want to make money from their original purchase, which should mean more movies eventually. I just don't want them to miss the current opportunities they have (ie, with Ewan McGregor at the perfect age for a Kenobi film).
