Yeah, it's Star Wars. Star Wars from a man who cares little about established continuity. It's Star Wars that takes place in a time period already over-crouded with conflicting stories and source materials. I understand that Lucas wanted to continue the story into television, but Jesus Christ, couldn't he have picked a point in the saga that wasn't filled with stories, some of which HE HIMSELF approved?!

Why be so angry about it? Just be glad that we're getting another Star Wars movie in our lifetime!

Perhaps just forget about it until you go and see it in the cinema - then see what your reaction is afterwards. I for one think there are so many stories that could be told about the Clone Wars that no amount of screentime could be too much. Most of the stories work into each other and those bits that don't well, it gives us something extra to talk about!

I think anyone that is a huge SW fan has to go into this not thinking it is a SW film - it ain't gonna be TESB. I watched the Clone Wars cartoons thinking I wouldn't like them as I'm not a big cartoon fan at all, but I actually quite enjoyed the bulk of them. I think this may be similar.

But it's not really another Star Wars movie. It's a friggin cartoon appendage to the real movies. To me, the movies were 1-6. Unless the next "movie" is episode 7, it's not a real Star Wars movie.

And see, I HATED the Tartakovski (or however you spell it) CW cartoons. If this is gonna be similar to them, that's a big negative, not a positive.

I see what you're saying, JB, and I don't totally disagree either. While I am looking forward to this greatly, there is a part of me that wishes it never came to this.
Why wouldn't Lucas have made more of the PT about the Clone Wars? It just seemed so logical. I know, I know, he told the story he had always set out to tell, but it still seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity to me.

Well, considering that George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars, this is an extension of his vision for it.

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but to be frank, George Lucas doesn't seem to care too much about the EU as he does not consider it an extension of his vision of Star Wars. While the EU is the official continuation, Lucas' vision supersedes that.

Personally, I'm not at all happy with the direction the EU has taken with the Clone Wars lately and I'm looking forward to seeing something fresh.

I gotta disagree. This has nothing to do with his "vision" and everything to do with his wallet. His vision ended when the credits rolled on episode III.

Which is ridiculous, because it means that he can just crap all over those of us who are fans of the EU. He's saying that all the time we've spent enjoying the EU, which IS an extension of his vision, was worthless because his so-called vision supercedes it. It's insulting AND bad business, because if he doesn't care about the EU, then why should we? Why should we bother to spend thousands of our hard-earned money on EU tales that are (more often than not) better written than the movies themselves?

I agree there, I just don't think this is the way they should have gone.

JB, do you agree with me that perhaps the Clone Wars would've been better served if they were covered in the PT?
Take it a step further and say he had done that instead of allowing EU novles to already cover it. Know what I mean?

I do agree- the Clone Wars would have worked better in the films. But the fact of the matter is that we've got the Clone Wars as the EU has presented them and now Lucas is just going in and karking it all up. If he had intended to do this as part of his "vision," then why did he allow the Clone Wars books/novels/games/etc to be created in the first place? No, I think this is all just his way of trying to make more money and it's just not fair to the fans who have stuck with the already-existing Clone Wars stories. I just don't see this all coming to a good end. I get the feeling that this television series is just gonna plow its way in and destroy existing continuity. Plus, if the CW cartoon is any indication, it might not even be any good.

To quote the saga, "I've got a bad feeling about this."

I totally understand your position, and still agree, to a point.
Unltimately, your 'doing it for the money' case is probably not too far off the mark. But I also feel, to an extent, that the Clone Wars is something that Lucas has always wanted to do, and I feel that he simply got too caught up with other plotlines during the PT and never gave it it's just due.
Also, I really don't think he cares much about the novels/EU, and probably feels that the majority of the SW fanbase only really cares about things that he has had a direct hand in creating. The novels would not qualify, in that regard.
    Of course, that's all IMHO.
I should also add that I'm one of those fans I'm describing. I haven't read a EU novel, aside from the Vader one in probably 9 years or so, so I know nothing about any Clone Wars novels. I think I'm among the target audience for this film and series.
In the end, though, I still will always feel a little diappointed regardless of the quality of this film/series that we never really got to see the Clone Wars withihn the film saga.

PS- Also, regardless of everything I just said, I still am looking forward to it.
