Default 'Thee Backslacpkping With Media' - Documediamentary - RotS/General SW Media Analysis

As mentioned on T-bone's SW Universe this thread is to discuss the fan DVD 'Thee Backslacpkping With Media'.

    Website: http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html

    What is it?

Too be upfront, it's several things. The most apparent is that it is a lot of Star Wars media, edited, cut-up and recompiled into chapters which follow certain themes and memes. Imagine if you were able to search through all the media (news reports, fan movies, etc.) and have the results be a program designed to fit your search parameters. [for instance, you're trying to learn wookiee so you might just want to watch a whole chapter dedicated to Wookiees growling.] In this case, the DVD has 48 chapters (each following a different aspect of Star Wars fandom) which resulted from over 700 sources, about 40+ hours of media which was recorded from two months before to two months after the release of Revenge of the Sith.

And now it's time for our first warning. Please don't consider watching the whole DVD in one sitting, it's just not practical. Although the media has been condensed into just under 3 1/2 hours, it's best if you want to watch this DVD, preview a chapter or two from the FAQ, then determine if this DVD is of interest to you.

The chapters can be watched from the FAQ here:
    http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html#DVDChapter

If you do want to watch everything, take your time, watch a chapter a week for the next year and you'll be ready for the 5th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith.

Individual chapters can be viewed from the website, but the whole DVD can also be downloaded.
    http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html#WatchOnline
Downloading options are in this section. The DVD has extra features, like audio commentary, additional subtitles and other bonus features.

The website/FAQ (frequently asked questions) covers other topics which you might want answered. If you don't see something, feel free to ask or post in this thread.

Over in another thread, kopernikuz asked where the title came from:

    http://noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html#Backslacpkping

"Because this project was partly a response to teh backstroke of the west, I wanted a back*something* word in the title. This piece began in a shorter form focusing on the mistakes/gaffs by the talking heads. so backslapping seemed appropriate, since the final piece was going to be drawing attention to their reporting errors, they slacked on the facts. The word combination got the final approval when the translator into chinese returned 8 characters."

'????????' (EDIT : well it's now clear that these forums don't accept chinese characters... check out the FAQ)

Feel free to ask any other question. This is an odd DVD, but I believe there is something for every type of SW fan in it. So if you would like more explanation just ask. More reviews are being added to the FAQ as they come in.

"Politics Mis-Reporting" is one of the more important chapters in 'Thee Backslacpkping With Media'. This was the chapter which started it all. Watching the coverage and being periodically introduced to blantantly wrong but reported to be right facts, by not only the mass media but also in individual opinions was the virtual spoon which stirred up this pot. If a system could be developed to reproduce similarly constructed pieces, it would be an invaluable tool in the area of fact checking of any type of media. For the newly streamed media could be cross referenced with the massive pool of archived media to determine if the new speaker is factual or just wrongly opinioned.

This would help promote a more active democracy which would lead to a greater sense of liberty. Two of the proponents of the Prequel Trilogy, which as shown in this segment, were actively promoted by George Lucas, but were commonly used to back up a pre-agenda of a political link against the current regime. Media fact checking could be a way to undercut political rhetoric before it swells.

This weeks chapter is a fan fav. fun one, Chewbacca. If you liked the first 11 minutes of the Holiday Special, here's another eight minutes full of wookie-speak.

It's been awhile since updates to this project have been posted in this forum, so check out the Recent Updates part of the FAQ.

There's no more Original Star Wars centric chapter then this weeks 'Opening Intro's New Hope Impact'. Which is dedicated to those magical 5 seconds which started a lot of the appreciation to these films.

    Recent Updates and Changes:
    http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html#FAQChanges

With the 5th anniversary of the recorded footage rapidly approaching, %20 would like to thank everyone who passed, hated, feigned or genuinely showed interest in tBSWM. 2009 was a beta test for the project and the resulting stats from everyone's actions have been tallied and digested into some of the recent entries of the FAQ. If your curious which chapter got the most views or how many people got copies of the project, well those questions have an answer.

and now we wait to see if the sith hits the fans...

    thanks
