Hi everybody. I just want to start by saying that sarwarsfanworks.com is a fantastic website. It's great to see fans creating audio drama...a medium that is all but dead in the USA anyway. Perhaps the internet will be responsible for bringing it back into the mainstream...but probably not.

I've listened to each and every drama at starwarsfanworks and was impressed by all of them. Keep up the good work, people.

A little but about myself, Preying Mantis productions, and "The Sins of Salvation." First, my name is Douglas Gonnelly...but you can call me Doug. I have been enjoying and collecting "audio plays" since I was about 8 years old and have amassed a collection of about 4,000 recordings ranging from the 1930's to present day (this includes OTR and NTR). At the age of 20 I bought a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder and my own audio drama career took off. Now, with the digital age there is no limit to what we as fan audio producers can do!

Preying Mantis is just a fancy name for myself and a friend of mine (John Fiato, writer of SoS). We do audio plays...that's what we do. This is our first Star Wars themed drama and it appears there's no better place to share it than starwarsfanworks.com.

So...enough babbling...check out the trailer and let us all know what you think. The trailer is of lower quality than the final piece will be and the recorded lines we used are actually from a cold read of the script so they're a little rough in parts, so please forgive us.

I look forward to meeting you all here on the boards. Feel free to drop me a line.

    Thank you for your time,
    Doug Gonnelly

Glad to have you here, Doug. Still shooting for August, be case scenario?

    Hi, Doug, and welcome.

Care to tell us anything "Sins of Salvation" - what it's about, where it's inspiration came from, that sort of thing? I'm just curious.

You mention that this is your first foray into Star Wars, but you allude to the fact that this isn't your first audio drama. Do you have others available on the web, something we might listen to?

Like you, I've listened to virtually everything that Fanworks has to offer and I have yet to be disappointed. I look forward to your drama when it's ready.

    Thanks.

    Hey Doug,

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Star Wars Fan Audio! I listened to the trailer and was hooked from start to finish. I am very much anticipating the launch of this series. Any ideas on release dates?

    And I second dbocian's questions:

I've got the trailer and it'll appear in the next episode of SWAB.
"Once lost but I was found, when I heard that stained glass shatter all around me. I sent the spirits tumbling down the hill, but I will hold this one on high above me still. She whispers words to clear my mind, I once could see but now at last I'm blind."

Hello again and thank you all for the warm welcome. I look forward to being an active part of this community.

First to answer your question, Nathan. Yes, we are shooting for a mid-Audust release date, but production is going so well we'll probably be done before that...barring any snafu's, of course.

As far as revealing more about the story...well, I shouldn't give away too much. The first chapter is pretty much a straight forward Star Wars romp. It introduces some of the new characters we've created and pits them agains the 'ol familiar SW foes. It pretty much follows the SW formula...story builds to a big battle at the end. There will be some mysteries introduced that will be resolved later in the series. John, the scriptwriter, plans on the entire arc being three chapters. We'll see about that. I will tell you, though, that we will be a little more enlightened about the early days of the Sith Lords.

As for other audio dramas we've produced...well, there's nothing on the web yet, but we plan on having a web page devoted to them in the near future. I will certainly let you all know when this happens. I am currently working on a series of scripts of my own based on an old 1970's TV show that I grew up with. I won't say what it is, but for those of you that can remember back that far...Sleestak are scary! (hint, hint) It has been a huge undertaking as the story will run ten episodes long...each at 30 minutes! What have I gotten myself into? Ugh! But it's all for the love of the audio drama art form, so the hard work is worth it, as you all well know.

I hope this answered most of your questions...any more, please ask.

    Doug,
If you email me the trailer for the drama I would be willing to put it on the next episode of "The Jedi Council Speaks". Also, I have started a new part of my show called "Springboard" which highlights recently released or upcoming audio dramas/parodies. Would you be willing to partake in an interview on the show to help highlight this project? No pressure either way. My email is: robertcrissman@musician.org.
Welcome to the community and I look forward to seeing you around.

SoS progress report: We have recorded the voices of several of the characters and have completed rough editing of two scenes. This Sunday, we are going into the studio to do a couple more characters and that will just about complete the recording phase (except for a couple minor characters...I'm still waiting to hear from the actors who will be doing those).

Which brings me to an important point. Does anybody out there know how to produce a voice filter emulating C-3PO using Adobe Audition, Audacity, or Gold Wave (or any combination of the three). I'm sure I can figure it out, but I was wondering if anyone has experimented with it...it would make my life so much easier).

If so, you can post it here or email your suggestions to corganoid@gmail.com.

    Thanks

I don't know about those particular programs, but in Wavelab I used an Echo plugin and just kept the echo amount very low, so that it didn't so much echo as gave a sort of reverberation to my voice.

Check out Always in Motion on Fanworks for the Guide Droid voice. If that sounds like what you mean, let me know, and I'll dig up the exact echo specs I used.
