  1. The EU Novels

You know, I can still remember the first time I saw Heir to the Empire sitting on a book shelf in a Waldenbooks. Since the death of Bantha Tracks Star Wars news was scarce and I can remember the unexpected joy of a new adult series of Star Wars books. A year later I found Rogue Squadron in a Wal-Mart, and from there on I was hooked. Ok, obsessed.

For years every time a new novel was due, I was in a bookstore the day it came out. When the internet began to grow ...

    The Rest

Below is the rest of my top 100 by decade.

    The Swinging Sixties

    4. The Jungle Book – Of all of the “classic” Disney movies, this has always been my favorite. A swinging jazz beat with Louis Prima and Phil Harris retell Kipling’s classic.

    3. The Sound of Music – One of the great big movie musicals.

    2. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance – The first modern western starring John Wayne, ...

  3. Movies of the 2000's

The toughest part of this list was the more recent movies. A movie like Jaws has been with me so long and has been viewed so many times that I can quote it, discuss it and still know how I feel about it. Newer movies are still having their shelf lives figured out.

A short list of newer movies that are left off with some reservations:

The Pixar movies – Pixar has made movies I cared less for, but none I hated. I look forward to watching the ...

  4. Movies of the 1990's

See my lists for the 1970's and 1980's

The 1990's were a good time for sci-fi fans. It began with Total Recall and a bunch of sequels (Gremlins 2, Predator 2, and Back to the Future III). Terminator 2, Stargate and two good Star Trek movies (and some bad Star Trek movies) followed, along with a series of lesser movies.

On TV Star Trek: The Next Generation had started in 1987 and would yield two more Treks. The Sci-Fi channel started and ...

  5. Looking at 80's Movies

Since no one asked for it:

    Totally Rad 80’s movie list!

See my previous blog about the methodology.

    32. Batman – Coming out at the end of the 1980’s this was the movie that showed me what a superhero movie could do. Keaton makes a good Bats, Nicholson does an interesting Joker and Kim Basinger as the love interest started a series which flamed and burned with the nipple suit.

    31. Hoosier’s – Probably ...
