Two big reasons really:

1) C3 is falling on the same weekend that Passover starts, so I have to do the family thing.

2) I can't get the vacation time off work. It's one of our busy periods, and my job is kind of key to the smooth functioning of it all so they can't rely on a fill in for the day or three I would have to be away from the office in order to travel south and back for the weekend

And a smaller reason:

3) I've only got enough money for one out of country convention this year, and I chose SDCC, which not only falls during a time of year so slow in The Office that we are given incentives to take our vacation then, but has no major religious holidays that require me to Do The Family Thing.

I would go.. i mean i think i can afford the pass for satruday and sunday, and i think i can afford the gas to get there and back. That leaves me sleeping in my car and eating out of a garbage can. It is just bad timing. There was supposed to be some family stuff going on that weekend, which involves my grandparents whom i only get to every couple of years, now that is cancelled but the thing is since i didn't think i could go i didn't save any money to go.

It maybe conry but i really am upset about it. This will be easily the closest celebration to me for a long time. And all of you will be there all in one place, i am quite depressed about it. I want to hug Blizz and Brookie, tip back a few with Flo and Obi, talk BSG and the new BSG with Tovey untill we annoy everyone around us, and give T and Nathan a big wet kiss. (<-joke) Could very well be the only chance we will ever have to be all together and i blew it. Sorry guys..

I should just do it, I should just get a pass for Saturday, and drive to Indy the 23rd, sleep in my car and drive back Sunday. I mean a 40 dollar pass, probably 40 dollars gas, 50 - 60 bucks food and *cough* beverages. I could swing that. Not sure what Rich would say but it would be so worth it. Of course than i would be like the new kid after everyone else had 2 days to get to know each other. But really this is a last chance kind of thing. My brain just doesn't work that way though. I know i would end up chickening out or something. It is just so close.. days away, and like 5 hours drive.

I really hope I get a chance to meet all these people someday whom i have gotten to know and care for in the senate. I really feel like i have dropped the ball, it is going to be a tough, tough weekend when C3 is taking place and the senate will seem so empty.

I would like to go but:

1.) I was Originally going to go with my 3 best friends. But one opted to go to San Diago this year, my other friend's hair brained wife scheuled their family vacation to Disney for that same week. So that leaves my third friend, who is going, but he wants to bring his whole family.....sigh......I don't hate kids, or families, but you're once crazy, fun, and goofy friends, suddenly turn into boaring, responsable, hunks of wood when their families are in tow. And little children prevent me from being myself. I can't swear, or talk dirty, or be my loveable smartassed self.

2.) I am a wimp when it comes to flying. And when you add all those "pleasant & speedy" security checks with the incredibly expensive price tag for flying, you can see why I might not want to fly. And any other mode of transportation takes too long.

3.) I am not considered full time by either of my jobs, so if I miss a few days work, I miss a few days pay.

4.) Convention people scare the hell out of me. Just when you think you're a certified geek for buying a Stormtrooper fig., surfing the net all night for a new SW pic, or being a "senator" on the "Galactic Senate" (I'm still haunted by my friends' laughter about that one), Then you go to some convention, and you see the fat guy squeezed into the Spiderman costume or the 45 yr. old mom dressed as a Klingon with snow white skin and a brown forehead, and lets not forget all the depressed out of work actors, you staring at them, they're staring at you, both of you thinking the other is more pathetic for being there. After all that I just want to go home and shower for half an hour.

5.) I'm also very lazy, and unorganized. I just can't see myself getting all my ducks in a row to make it happen.

There are a couple other minor reasons, but these are the main ones.

1) you can still go with your friend and you don't necesarly have to hang out with him, especially if he's going with his family.

2) A lot of people hates flying, but they just want to go and meet other senators and enjoy the con, more than their fears, Come on!!! you shiuld conquer them!

3 & 4) it's only a few days.. I know it sucks to loose a few days paid, but it's also good to meet you mates (and every geek thinks the same as you do and probably has the same fears and thoughts, as me it's my first Con)

Tark and Siths- well, it's the matter of college and university.
Siths got one exam on the 21st and one on the 26th. She needs to study and take them and the ony way out is a doc's note, nothing else.

As for me, again, it's college related- I got to do me a co-op and we have to punch in every mornin' and every evenin' and missing days is a big fat "you're fired".

Tovor already knows, but I'll post my reasoning anyways for anyone else who may happen to care.
1- I really can't get the time off of work to go. My wife and I are planning a vacation to Europe later this year and I need the vacation time for that. Trying to explain to the missus why I don't have enough vacation time because I used a week of it to attend a SW convention would not go over very well, methinks.
2- I also have holiday time saved up, but alas, I have used that time to visit my best friend in South Carolina during the week that ROTS opens. We only see each other a handful of times a year and we haven't missed any of the PT premieres. With that trip, I have no holiday time left over for C3.
3- Cost. Even if I had the available time to take off, I don't think I could afford it. Even if I drove, I'd still need to worry about a room, food, etc. I wouldn't have nearly as much fun if I had to pinch pennies the entire time.

With all of that said, my current job status is constantly in question as my attitude has been since last fall. One never knows when my boss will just have enough of me and let me go. If that were to happen at the time of C3, well, a road trip my be very possible, as I certainly would have time to do so. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Well, my reason? Nothing to do with money, or school, or . . . anything else like that. It's all my parents fault. We don't get along, and they new that this was really really important to me, so they lied to me and told me I could go if I did something. I did it, and they never held up to their end of the bargain. This is quite possibly the straw that breaks the camels back, in terms of ever fixing the relationship with my parents.
