EUDF Charter
MISSION STATEMENT
The Expanded Universe (EU) of Star Wars is constantly knocked on the head by posters on nearly every message board on the 'Net. People argue that it is irrelevant, that it is lame, that none of it should have ever been written, and that it can't be used for speculation about the films because Lucas pays no attention to it.
The EU Defense Force is a group of people who are dedicated to discussing the Expanded Universe of Star Wars, and sticking up for it against the nay-sayers. Sure, there are some dud books, but when people start hanging poodoo on it, we step in and provide logical, sensible and supported arguments about why we feel the EU has value in the SW universe, both as a marketing device, and as a way to provide greater appreciation of the Saga outside of the films. EUDF members should always respond to bashes against the EU as a whole, and are encouraged to defend against book, comic, or series specific bashes, and may be rewarded for these defenses.
The EUDF has been in action on many boards for some time. We are not a vigilante group of moderator wannabes. It is not our job to moderate the boards, nor should any member attempt to do so. Our job is to get involved in discussions where the EU is under attack, and defend it. While some EUDF members may dislike certain parts of the EU, they are not prohibited from expressing those opinions as long as it is done with civility and respect. Ultimately, the EUDF will only operate within the boundaries placed upon it by moderators. No member should assume that he/she has the same power or authority over other board members as a moderator.
Three Rules:
1) Alert the Squadron of any 'enemy activity'. Members of the EUDF are responsible for reporting "battles" (a thread where the EU is being bashed) in this thread, and "kills" (posts made in defense of the EU) to their individual squadron commander.
2) Back-up your squadron mates in their defense of the EU.
3) Be able to intelligently defend your views while maintaining a sense of dignity and respect. When you create a bad image of yourself while performing squadron duties, you make the entire group look bad. Remaining calm during a mission is the best 'energy shield' you can have against another's antagonism. EUDF Members may not resort to any behavior which is unacceptable at the Galactic Senate. Flames, personal remarks, insults etc. will result in suspension and possible exclusion from his/her unit and/or possible banning from the Senate. Responsibility for monitoring these activities lies with all members of the EUDF. Final decisions rest with Unit leaders, or the highest ranking member of the EUDF.COMMAND STRUCTURE
The ranking system and command structure are based loosely on the X-Wing novels and other SW sources. The squadrons of the EUDF are as follows - Rogue Squadron, Wraith Squadron, and the Dozen. In the event that a new squadron is formed, the name of that squadron will be decided by the new squadron leader and voted upon by the EUDF Command Staff. The only requirement is that the new squadron name must be an established squadron from the post-ROTJ EU.
Upon joining, members are given a number in a squadron (eg Rogue Two, Rogue Three, etc) and the rank of Cadet. Rank advancement is based upon each member's ability and dedication to defending the EU and is decided by each member's respective squadron leader and XO (Executive Officer). Since we do understand that not everyone likes every part of the EU, members will be rewarded for defending any part of it. It should be noted that any post made in the defense of the EU anywhere on the 'Net is considered valid when a member's record is being reviewed prior to rank advancement.
The following is a list of ranks in order and a short explanation of how rank advancement works:
Cadet
Flight Officer
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Commander
Colonel
General
AdmiralCadet
New members to the EUDF are ranked as Cadets. Just like in the NR Fighter Corps, Cadets must prove their ability to defend the EU to their superiors before they can be classed as a qualified "pilot" or Flight Officer.
Flight Officer
Cadets, after proving themselves able and dedicated, move up to the rank of Flight Officer. A Flight Officer is a pilot in their own right, and has proved their ability to work effectively in the EUDF.
Lieutenant
When a Flight Officer continues to show their dedication and ability to post in defense of the EU while adhering to the rules of the EUDF, they are promoted to Lieutenant - an official rank of authority. This allows them to lead a flight of four members in their squadron if requested to do so by the squadron leader.
Flight Leaders
To be a Flight Leader, a member must hold the rank of Lieutenant or higher. Flight Leaders are directly responsible for keeping track of the participation, performance and progress of each member of their flight. Posts made in defense of the EU should be reported to the member's respective flight leader who will then pass the information on to the squadron leader.
Executive Officer (XO)
Executive Officers, or XO, must hold the rank of Captain or higher. Each squadron has an XO. XOs are chosen by their squadron leader from anyone in their squadron with the rank Captain or higher. In the case of new squadrons, the new squad leader may choose anyone in the EUDF who meets the rank requirement.
Squadron Leaders
Squadron Leaders must hold the rank Commander or higher. When a squadron is in need of new leadership, a Squadron Leader is chosen through an application process, submitted to the EUDF Supreme Commander and voted upon by the EUDF Command Staff. The Command Staff consists of all squadron leaders and executive officers in the EUDF.
ENLISTMENT REQUIREMENTS
All new recruits (Cadets) are required to participate in the Practice Range Thread (http://www.galacticsenate.com/showthread.php?t=8920) (PR) at least twice a month for 4 months, or until they attain the rank of Flight Officer. If a Cadet fulfills this duty with honor and has not received a promotion by the end of those 4 months, an automatic promotion to Flight Officer will be awarded.
Flight Officers are required to participate in the PR at least once a month until they attain the rank of Lieutenant.
After the rank of Lieutenant, PR participation is not required but highly recommended. Also, promotion through the rank of Captain may be attained through PR participation.
All members of the EUDF are required to "check in" at the Hanger Bay Thread (this thread) at least once a month. Failure to do so will result in the member receiving a warning PM from their flight leader. Two warnings for inactivity and then they will be discharged from the EUDF on their third offense (ie: three strikes, you're out).
Leaves of Absence will be granted, provided the member can say with relative certainty when they will return.
In the case of those who choose to resign from their position with the EUDF and later request to rejoin: If the member was ranked Lieutenant or above, they may return with the rank of Lieutenant. Those who held the rank of Cadet or Flight Officer at the time they resigned must return as a Cadet and abide by all requirements for new recruits. Those who are discharged due to lack of activity must return as a Cadet and abide by all requirements for new recruits.
To request placement in the Expanded Universe Defense Force, post in this thread stating that you have read and agree to abide by the rules of this Charter. Please do not send a PM. You'll then be assigned a position in a squadron (hopefully in a timely manner).
HISTORY OF THE EUDF

Nice to be in a new home with new leadership. All seems great.
Sounds like the range is running at full capacity. I'll have to pop by later.
Its good to be back after a week off - which I used to get over some bug that I'd had for three weeks!
MS out.
Edit: Just read through the old practice range and made a post in the new one. Its a bit sad to see the old range go, because thats where I first stumbled onto the EUDF style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif . SS had made a practice bash, but I didn't realise it was a practice range. I went hell for leather at him, and after about two weeks of different topics he realised I wasn't a member and asked me to join style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif. Ah, to good times...
I've also made a quick defense in the range, but it seems all aspects are covered.
A lot of credit should go to SS for his work in the range. He's worked very hard in there for as long as I've been a member. Exellent stuff mate.
On another note, I also read through the old hanger bay to the end. Doesn't seem like I missed much. However, I would like to thank SS for the promotion recomendation, and TR1 for offering me a drink if successfull style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif. However, I think in the change over it got swept under the carpet. I'm happy at my current rank, and don't want people to think I blowing my own trupmet; I'm just after a successful/non-successful response.
Anyway, in hindsight I probably should have given this "edit" a post of its own! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
Cheers,
Shrive.

Ok, reply to the bash is up SS. This has been a good string. Lots of participation from EUDF new and old. Lets see how SS treats us all for this one huh?

04-04-2005, 02:09 PM
rogue 7 and 8 seem to be the kind of members who signed up and never checked in. i remember when they joined. I'm surprised they made it through the roll call, and when another roll call is made and othe things come into play, members like that won't bog down our roster any longer.
Kam Solusar
04-04-2005, 02:12 PM
Roster purge perhaps? I can't say that as a new guy I wouldn't be happy to see that. I'd much rather have us close ranks than have an overinflated roster, myself.
DarthSolo
04-04-2005, 02:18 PM
we've had a roll call that served as a "purge" and something like that is in the works for the future.
TuskenRaider1
04-04-2005, 02:52 PM
Responded back at ya on the Range. As for the role call, its good to keep a tight unit formation running. Any help I can give is there. I wouldnt mind a bit more responsibility if your looking for volunteers....
Luvinna
04-04-2005, 03:47 PM
There is going to be another roll call, but it's probably not going to happen until after Celebration III. I know there's only one more spot left on the roster. If more people then that join between now and then, they'll just be put in some sort of reserve slot (maybe we'll make provisions for a #13 in all of the squadrons) until we get the roster sorted out. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Nova II doing the rounds.
Welcome to lordmakalpine - always good to have a new member up and about.
As for a role call, thats not a bad idea. Some of the people on the roster I'm not sure if I've ever seen, and I've been here nearly 12 months!
On a more serious note, there is an EU bash in the following thread:
The One & Only Darth Sidious/Palpatine Thread (http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?showtopic=1464&st=1780&p=646274&#entry646274)
However, be warned that it is in the sploilers section. I've made a post, but I don't think people should get too carried away. Other posters might not be happy if we bombard this thread with facts about the EU been relevant - its a very popular thread at the moment.
I suggest making a small comment about the EU been relevent, then continuing your post with a reply to the actual topic. That way people shouldn't get to angry about us posting!
All the same, thats only my two cents. Someone higher up in the ranks may have a different opinion!
Cheers,
Master Shrive.

In the meantime, I've got a question regarding the Practice Range. If our defenses are no longer responded to, does that mean we've made a successful argument?

We will probably be having another roll call within the next little bit, so we probably will not need to have a new squadron, but if we do, the name will either be decided in a vote like it once was, or by Luvinna like JTS did or by the command staff or some combination of that.
