Master Yoda is sitting alone in a dark room meditating in the completely urbanized planet of Coruscant. A startled and horrified expression crosses his face as his eyes quickly open. He spins to look out the broad windows that encompass two sides of the room to see enemy fighter ships streaking across the blue sky, massive transport ships are seen slowly moving towards the ground in the distance. Mace Windu runs into the room and with an extreme sense of urgency tells Yoda “The city is under attack.”
“Defend the city, we must.” Replies Yoda matching the same urgency and surprise Windu just displayed.
Windu races for the fighter ship bay and arrives at his ship and quickly enters. His fighter speeds off into the city to join the battle that is quickly engulfing the entire planet. The fighter's blasters shooting at the numerous enemy ships in view. The tight groupings of fighters are easy targets for the superior Jedi pilot. Windu drops in behind a fighter and quickly destroys. He Rockets his ship through the explosion and flying debris of the droid fighter. Suddenly, three enemy fighters drop in behind Windu. He makes evasive moves to quickly to try loose them however they are still trailing him. He uses his knowledge of the city and the force to pilot his ship between two buildings, barely squeaking his own ship in between the buildings. The droid pilots we unable to squeeze in and crashed into the sides of the buildings. Mace emerges from between the buildings and quickly resumes his attack on other droid fighters.
In the distance he sees hundreds of enemy ships and immediately punches the throttle. As he reaches the massive armada of ships one rams him causing his ship to malfunction. He quickly looses control as a long column of smoke follows the ship as it plummets. Windu releases the escape hatch and quickly exits the plane. After a quick survey of the area below he jumps from the plane and plunge hundreds of feet before approaching his target.
He gracefully lands on an enemy droid plane, quickly removes his lightsaber and slices off a piece of the ship covering the controls. All that can be seen are large groups of wires. Mace plunges his hand into the hole and takes hold of a group of wires. Once again, Mace finds himself in a downward spiral while on top of an enemy plane. The lights on the plane are flickering and the sensors are all going haywire. As the plane is approaching the ground, suddenly all of the lights and sensors come back on line. The plane is now under the control of Mace Windu.
Back on the ground, Master Yoda stands atop a crashed droid plane. He is facing a see of enemy droids coming towards him with their guns blazing. Above the battle droids another squadron of enemy planes are streaking toward the Jedi master. Yoda raises his right hand levitates the battle droids into the air. The enemy planes are unable to maneuver out of the way fast enough and collide into the droids, which have been moved directly in front of the approaching squadron.
With the squadron and battle droids destroyed Yoda turns towards a group of landing transport ships. Again he raises his hand and with an extreme look of concentration focuses his energy on an enemy tank exiting the transport. Suddenly the tank begins to slide back up the ramp and flips over. It crashes into the following tank and forces its way back inside the bay of the transport. The bay doors close and the transport is lifted off the ground, smashing into another landing transport.
All of a sudden, Yoda hears a message from a trooper, “Alert. We are loosing ground in sector four. Repeat. Loosing ground in sector four” He races off towards his tauntaun and quickly speeds off to join the others.
“Fall back! Fall back!” exclaims one of the command troopers as they are being overrun by the battle droids. As the commander is about to be shot by a droid, a sudden flash of green light appears slicing through the chest of the droid. “Hold your positions! Hold your positions!” yells the old Jedi Master who swiftly joins the battle by leaping into the groups of battle droids. Yoda's lightsaber thrashing though the enemy with easy while his outstretched hand is waving, controlling the movement of other droids making them shoot at one another.
Yoda pauses and looks into the sky to see a droid plane come crashing into the advancing battalion of droids. The flaming plane carves a massive column through the droids and destroys everything in its path. As Yoda turns he sees Master Windu rapidly fighting his way through the droids with his own lightsaber decapitating any battle droid standing in his path.
“Master Windu.” Yoda speaks in a calm voice calling Windu over to his position on the bridge between the clone troopers and advancing droids. Both Jedi raise their hands and together create a wave of flying battle droids tumbling off the bridge.
“Attack!” Windu yells. The remaining clone troopers follow Yoda and Windu into the heart of the advancing force. Though the troopers' numbers are severely diminished, their resolve is strengthened by the arrival of the Jedi Masters.
“Forward! Keep up the pressure on the right!” shouts a clone commander.
“Sir, what about our left flank?” asks another trooper.
The commander pauses and with a slight degree of relief and pride he says “The Jedi have the left.”
Masters Yoda and Windu continue their own assault on the invading battle droids. Relentlessly attacking with their lightsabers, slicing through droids and reflecting blaster shots back to their origin, destroying hundreds of droids in the process. Plowing through crowds, sweeping droids to the side and lifting them into the air only to have them plummet back down to land on other droids.
The Jedi meet in the midst of the battle, their backs towards each other, effortlessly reflecting countless blaster shots directed towards the pair. “Strange is the enemy's strategy.” asserts Yoda.
“Indeed. A massive invasion with no attempt to take the Temple or Center.” States Mace.
“Unless… an elaborate distraction?”
“To hid their primary objective!” exclaims Windu as they give each other concerned looks. “Palpatine!” they say in unison.
They look up to see a squadron of Attack Gunships flying overhead. Mace leaps up into one through the open side door. The unsuspecting clone trooper inside gives a quizzical glance saying “Master Windu.”
“Pilot, turn this ship around!” commands Windu.
“Yes, sir.” And the gunship begins to bank back towards the right.
The ship is approaching the capitol when one side is blown off by a blast from the ground. The explosion knocks some of the troopers inside to the floor and the fire will quickly engulf the cabin. Mace jumps out as the ship is making its emergency landing.
When Windu hit the ground he looked up to see Palpatine being escorted onto a ship by three armed guards. One of the guards turned to look at his the new combatant. This enemy was none other than General Grievous, the notoriously ruthless and cunning leader of the droid army. Grievous is a twisted combination of flesh and metal who used his mechanical enhancement to hunt Jedi for sport, displaying their lightsabers on his belt as trophies. Grievous had already killed two Jedi in the process of capturing Palpatine.
Grievous spins around, brandishing a lightsaber in each of his four arms. However, Mace is not intimidated. He quickly raises his hand and with a face of intense anger and concentration squeezes his hand to make a fist. The force crushes the general's chest sending him writhing in pain as he falls to the doorway of his ship. With one hand he braces himself on the ground, with two others he holds onto the doorway for some support, and with the fourth he grasps at his chest. The general's coughing is the only comfort Master Windu can take as he watches Grievous' ship lift off with Chancellor Palpatine inside.
