FISHER TO REVEAL STAR WARS SECRETS
Actress-turned-novelist CARRIE FISHER is set to expose the secrets of the original STAR WARS films in a behind-the-scenes expose of the classic sci-fi trilogy.
Fisher, 48, kept a diary during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when she played PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA opposite HARRISON FORD and LUKE HAMILL.
She explains, "My publisher has told me not to talk about it... oh what the hell.
"When I was in Star Wars, I kept diaries. Big books full of what went on, what I thought, what I did.
"I am going to write them all up as a narrative.
"It will be riveting. Once I get started, that is. I'm months behind already."

When one considers that George wouldn't even let the actors have a complete copy of the script for the movie they were working on at the time, I rather seriously doubt that Carrie Fisher, or ANY actor on the set, has any great insights into what George's future plans for the franchise may have been.

But there might be some amusing tales like the one on the ESB commentary where she says that some of the principal cast were a bit worse for wear after meeting up with Eric Idle and some of the Rolling Stones the night before shooting the landing on Cloud City and imbibing in a "special" drink.

OK this is kind of a rip-off from Hayden vs. Hamill but lets get your opinions on this ok!?
I personally feel both did well, their characters were quite different so it's kind of hard to compare I guess.
Natalie was her best in ROTS, and Carrie was her best in ESB.
thepepgal
04-26-2006, 09:48 AM
Carrie had a strong presence in all three of her films and also the smallest outfit. Natalie unfortunately had her whole political storyline taken away in ROTS so was unable to display her talents fully.
I still like Carrie more but only just.I've been a fan for too long./

Going with Natalie, only because her character's story ended in a tragic way. That storyline, more than Anakin's affected me personally.
It was sad to see what happened to her.
I think Natalie did a solid job on all three films, Episode I having her strongest performance (when she's the Queen). During the big moments, Natalie brought it. Carrie is great in Episodes IV and V. With Episode VI, to me, it feels dialed in. But, she's not horrible.

They both did a good job in my opinion. Natalie was her strongest in TPM when she retook the city on her own initiative. You could see the courage. Carrie is the same way. A family joke when comparing the two is "Like mother, like daughter."

Carrie. No doubt about it.
The White Tuxedo
04-27-2006, 10:31 PM
Carrie Fisher, definately. She had that spoiled Princess thing going really well in the first two. With Natalie Portman. I really like Portman. She's talented and she's beautiful. I think she's a better actress than Carrie Fisher, though I think Fisher was always more interested in writing, anyway. But she wasn't given enough in the Prequels.
TPM is the only film where Padme has a really strong story. She drives the film. It's all about her saving her homeworld. In AOTC, she doesn't really get as much. She just sorta falls in love with Anakin because that's what needs to happen in the story. Even in those deleted scenes, where we do see a little more of her character, she wasn't given as much.
And then you have ROTS. She's wasted. Her job is to stand around in her apartment and be pregnant. She I really think it's wrong that she just gave up at the end. Padme was a selfless character. She would have stayed alive for her children. Instead, she dies cuz Anakin dumped her. Well, the problemo with that is that we never really saw what she saw in Anakin.
Anyway. I think Portman is the stronger actress in general, but she isn't stronger in these movies. That's just my opinion. I think her character is largely wasted.

It's common knowlege via Carrie herself, that she was doing drugs during the Star Wars era (not ANH, though) but I don't believe it's detectable on-screen. I do think she was good in both ANH and ESB but both she and Harrison gave their worst performances (they were ready to be done with it) in RotJ. Conversely, IMO, Mark Hamill gave his best performance in the final film of the OT.

The only movie in which I can decernably detect or "imagine" that Mz. Fisher was doing drugs is RotJ I mean come on this is the third movie working with a difficult man (George not Harrison) and she was chained to a fat slug. I'd be doing drugs just to take the edge off too. All the other ones no hint of problems or substance abuse. I also think (and this is just my opinion) around the time RotJ was being made, Carrie wasn't all that concerned with being found out anyway.

I think people have not done their fact-checking.... this is the Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkle - he's not gay, and he has a son and is now married to that wonderful blues singer (sorry, can't remember her name but she's fantastic) - this was Carrie's first marriage but the references to her having to accept her husband as wanting to graze in different passages was her 2nd marriage.
