I wrote this story a few days ago. Any comments, suggestions, or ideas would be welcome.
"My Dear, Sweet Sola"
(The Letter of a Stormtrooper)
My Dear, Sweet Sola,
By the time you are reading this, Love, I am probably piloting my speeder around the useless forests of Endor. You are so lucky to have an afternoon shift aboard that Star Destroyer of yours. I bet they won't even wake you up until 900 hours. Since my docking party leaves at 500, I won't have time to write this letter in the morning. So, here I am, tapping away at this datapad while you rest you head against the top of my chest. I can feel your heart beating as I lay awake. Your nose slowly inhales and exhales against my neck as you are far away, dreaming of things that only you will know of. Unless, of course, you decide to share them with me (wink). I can't really do anything right now, except wonder. Wonder if it's me who's standing there in your dreams, waiting to be embraced.
You just sighed in your sleep. Oh, how soft and feathery it feels! Your long blonde hair looks like the waves on Borleias... the first time we met. It looks as if it is gently flowing around your back. Your skin feel like it is molded into my own, our warmth radiating around us. We'll have to do this again sometime. Sometime soon. Maybe after the Empire finally finishes this stupid war, we can go and lead our own lives. Not a life centered around serving the Empire. Word has it that this battle at Endor is some type of trap, to end this whole rebellion once and for all. No one's sure what's going to happen, but I doubt I will be heavily involved.
When I joined the Empire, I wanted to show my loyalty to my planet. I haven't seen any real battles yet... only a few skirmishes that didn't amount to much. I'm not very excited about many of the Emporer's ideas, but he is a good man. One that can get things done for all people. With the exception of his slavery rules, I believe in most of his principles. One large dictator could solve many things. My family used to tell me stories of the Old Senate, and how it took them almost years to decide on small issues like trade rights.
I bet your tired of the history lesson, though, so I'll get back to writing about us. I have had relationships with women before, but nothing like ours. My other relationships... I don't know... it seemed like we were only loving each other to gain something out of it. It was all we did. But now, with you, it's different. We aren't always in each other's arms. We're not always hanging on each other. We are just... together. It's hard to explain... you have no idea how hard. But, it seems like we're friends. Even better than friends. Better than best friends, better than girlfriend and boyfriends, better than everything. We are completely relaxed with each other. Not with the tension I see with other lovers. More like we are part of one another... two halves of one person. I feel like only half complete when I'm out here, potrolling the forests, trying not to disturb the little bear-things called "Ewoks."
I saw one the other day, before I came up to see you. He was unaware of my presence and I just sat and watched him from only a few meters away. His little primitive spear and hood, the way he moved his chubby little body around... it was pretty humorous. I made the mistake of scratching the neckline just under my helmet (that black skin is a pain in the rear), and he noticed me. At first he was scared stiff, and snatched up his little spear. For the next few minutes we both just stood there, staring into each other's eyes. Well, he was staring into the eyes of my helmet, but I was staring at his eyes.
From that moment, I realized his sentience. The way his eyes watched me and calculated what he would do if things went bad was proof of that. I pitied and kind of envied him at the same time. It was a pity that he was so small and from the look of him, I knew he had seen a good many adversaries in this wild forest. And yet, I envied him because his people were not involved in this great civil war, like my Karamus.
The time passed very slowly, both of us hoping the other didn't try to start anything, until Shirmir came looking for me. When he called "Roth! Roth! Where the frink are you?!" (We all know we're not supposed to call each other by name, but it's hard not to. We all trust each other like brothers, and calling each other 1134 and 1456 kinda decreases that effect.) I came to him and he told me that he had seen my speeder bike and hoped I hadn't crashed. I climbed onto my speeder bike and rode toward the rest of my watch, forever to remember my encounter with the Ewok.
