I think we should expect to hear a darker theme for Ep3, than any other of the films.

I'd like to see the Imperial March play a large role in the score, as well as the Love Theme and the Force Theme. It'd be nice to hear Yoda's Theme played in full glory, too. Also, the Emperor's Theme.

GL has already said that the film is going to be dark, but there'll be some fun too, so I expect some action peices in the soundtrack.

A theme that is close to the feel of the Imperial theme would be good to highlight the backdrop of the Clone Wars, but as soon as Palpatine enters the Senate Chamber, dressed in a dark robe, and declares himself Emperor, I never want the Imperial theme to go away, just play and play for the next twenty minutes.

I've got to be honest man, I thought we'd already heard Yoda's theme played in all it's glory when he raised Luke's X-wing out of the swamp. It's a glorious rendition.
At the end of the day though, John W has never let us down with his SW scores. His insight into what makes the SW universe tick is beyond amazing.
I'm hoping that there will be an important theme to go with the Anakin\Vader Vs Obi1 fight.
I'm sure the music will be very dark and emotional and the Love theme will be so much more painful considering the problems that Anakin and Padme are hopefully going to have.
I think we might also be treated to a slightly lighter and more innocent version of the brother and sister theme.
Who knows?
Well I'm sure the maestro has an idea.

I'd love the score to be a cross between ESB and AOTC's scores, and I agree Yoda's theme was played to the hilt in ESB when he raised the X-wing and I loved it, that scene is one of my favorite scenes in the entire saga.

If memory serves, I believe I have read that the 'Duel of the Fates' theme was meant to be pominent throughout the entire PT. We didn't hear much of it in AOTC, but when it did show up, it was meaningful. The Obi-Wan/Anakin duel would seem a perfect fit for it's appearance in EP3, IMO.

i am sure that at the beginning they will play anakin's theme to remind us of how he was before. and i know they will play imperial march. they will also play across the stars and duel of the fates too. yes i do agree that they will probably play duel of the fates with the anakin/obi-wan duel. i hope that john williams gets some more good songs.

I think you misunderstood me when I said, "Yoda's Theme played in full glory". Maybe I should have been more specific. I meant played in full glory in the Prequels. We've never had that before; only little hints of it in AOTC.

It'd be awesome for the Duel of the Fates to be played with the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight. Maybe it could tie in with the Force Theme (Anakin's Theme, Force Theme, whatever. Its had so many friggin' names I can't keep track)

I really can't wait for the soundtrack. Its one of those key elements in the SW universe that makes the film more enjoyable and meaningful.

I think I know what music they'll use for an Ep3 trailer. Listen to the very end of "Confrontation with Dooku and Finale" where the Imperial March comes up, and fades into the Love Theme. I'm betting they'll use that, its a perfect rendition.

I am looking forward to hearing more along the lines of "Duel of the Fates" as well as more of the haunting sounds played when the Emperor is around (Like in the throne room in ROTJ)

Wicked soundtrack on the way, that's for sure.

Gandalf you are sooo right! I have had the very same thought. It usually goes with the favorite theme of the Fans, and this one will be it. at Least for the first Trailer. The Imperial March should be evident in the trailer.

Jedi Master Gandalf
07-31-2002, 10:01 PM
Thanks Mann!
And even more so, that peice of music ends with a sort of "bang", you know? I know they'll use it on the trailer. I can't wait. You're right, they usually seem to go with the "headlining" song of the previous film, so its almost guarenteed.

I wish that after Ep3 is over, John Williams would hold a all out SW concert. Mainly stuff from the prequels.

darthwicker
07-31-2002, 10:06 PM
I was watching the movie music web doc on the Phantom Menace DVD and noticed that the score for Duel Of Fates was called The Great Duel.
So maybe it will be incorporated into the Anakin\Ben duel.
I'm not sure how I think the Imperial March will be used.
One of the reasons is that in ANH the imperial\darth vader theme is very different to what it evolves into TESB.
That why I was suprised at hearing it at all of it's glory in AOTC, maybe it was just shades of things to come.
It will just be strange to have a completely different Vader them in ANH if the Imperial march is used in EP3. Unless of course the IM is worked into the ANH dvd.
Or maybe the IM is more of a theme for palpatines vision.

Jedi Master Gandalf
08-01-2002, 07:28 PM
John Williams has already said that he will add the Imperial March into ANH for the legendary "Ultimate Edition" DVD. So we don't have to worry about that.

If Williams is planning to incorporate that particular theme into ANH, maybe he could put in small doses of Prequel related music, such as the Duel of Fates, or Across the Stars. I think it would bring all of the films closer together.

I think Ep3 is going to be the most emotional of the SW films, so we can expect a great soundtrack heading this way.

Jedi Master Gandalf
08-02-2002, 12:20 AM
Remember, anyone who wants a good bet at what the Ep3 trailer music will be, listen to the end of "Confrontation with Dooku and Finale" where the Imperial March begins and fades into the Love Theme. Thats it.

Here's hoping.

<<<the 'Duel of the Fates' theme was meant to be pominent throughout the entire PT.>>>

I was thinking just now that the "Duel of the Fates" would be perfect music for the siege of the Jedi Temple scene, where Vader leads Imperial forces into the Temple and the Jedi have their last stand. Mace fights Vader, and so on.

This is the perfect music for that scene.

Jedi Master Shaft
08-19-2002, 10:37 AM
If some future rebels are shown -I say that because I hope we will see Mon Mothma- maybe we'll hear the Rebel Alliance theme ( the theme used in the finale of Star Wars and in the end battle of Jedi ).

And I'm confident Princess Leia's theme from Star Wars will be played when Leia will be seen.

I'm talking about the theme used at the end of Star Wars, when Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are given some medals. It was used again in the space battle of Jedi.

It's not really a "Rebel Alliance theme".

I'd like to hear the Yoda theme a bit more in Episode III.

If my memory is good, it was just played a few seconds in the scene where Master Yoda tells Obi-Wan Kenobi he can train Anakin Skywalker at the end of Episode One, and I don't remember hearing it in Clones. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info on Clones's music.

But I checked the scene where Master Yoda gives Obi-Wan the title of Jedi Knight in Episode One yesterday and I confirm that at the beginning of the scene, during the establishing shot of the room where Yoda and Obi-Wan are, Master Yoda's theme is played for 5 seconds.

Personally, I think themes from the Original Trilogy should be used more extensively, in order to keep more of a continuity to the music in the saga.

Let's hope so.

Adding the music used for the stormtroopers in Star Wars would give the turning of the clones a bit more added oomph, I think. For the music I'm talking about, check out the scene in Star Wars where the stormtroopers break in to the room C3P0 & R2 are hiding in - "They're madmen!". That and the classic Rebel Fanfare - it's pure Star Wars.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for lots of old SW themes all the way through it as there are a lot of themes for many different characters in this one and it would be easy to overload it lots of different themes. I reckon Williams will use what is appropriate during the movie so there is a good chance a lot of old stuff will be used but I think some of it will be very sparingly, hinting at what is to come in the original movies.

Peace

I agree, I think we shall hear only a few new themes for the wookies and maybe Grievous and the coruscant opera scene. but an imperial march/vader's theme melted with the duel of the fates could be awesome. I believe in John Williams anyway, whatever he's pulling off this last time.

i hope we will hear again the Force Theme in full glory once again.
In ROTJ SE OST, the part "Light Of The Force" is longer than in the movie, it ends with a beautiful rendition of the Force Theme. I can(t believe it wasn't in the movie. It's just wonderful. Obi-Wan staring at the two suns at the end of the movie would be a good moment for it...

Today's OS update contains details about the start of the scoring sessions this week with Johnny Williams' music.

It includes an interesting confirmation of the Topps card list - the Duel will be intercut with the other "action" at the beginning.

So, Ani and Obi-Wan start the duel off and we go back to see the conclusion of Yoda and Sidious, then cut back to: The Duel - already in progress.

It mentions the beginning of the Duel theme, called Hero's Collide, as an all new theme.

Gazelle
02-04-2005, 11:37 AM
I know this won't happen but in many ways I would love to hear a dramatic version of the main Star Wars movie theme played as Kenobi and Vader duel. It is afterall what the whole prequel trilogy has really been leading to and about, and what we have been waiting for since 1977.

EDIT: I have a particular love for the "middle bit" of the main theme which is never used to underscore any scenes. It is a superb piece of dramatic music.

JSunday
02-04-2005, 11:42 AM
I'm glad to hear that the final duel won't be linear all the way through. I never truly believed that would be so literal...perhaps as much as 12 minutes of duel (probably shorter) with NO cut-aways. Didn't seem very Lucas-like.

Basill
02-04-2005, 12:59 PM
Forgive my rambling, but the scores for these films are one of my favorite obsessions....

One of the things I have been looking forward to most in this particular score are all the "bridging-of-the-sagas" notions that we have been told would happen with this film, although I realize any film score must stand on its own. I would be perfectly happy with just a touch of theme unique to ANH and maybe a sprinkle from ROTJ. I agree the stormtrooper theme, which is never used again after ANH, would be perfect in the clonetroopers' "moment of transistion." However, I think it should be more pounding or brassy, to emphasize the dramatic newness of the situation. In ANH the theme was ominous and threatening, but had a sort of status quo feeling to it.

I will be just devastated if I don't hear some hint or variation of the Death Star/Imperial theme from Ep IV. Short and to the point, but such a mood grabber.

As for Princess Leia's and Luke & Leia's themes, I suspect they will at the very least be hinted at. I thought I already saw theirs names on some of those cues in the Hyperspace report images. Yoda's theme is given. Um... what else? My rambling dries up... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Master Magnus
02-04-2005, 12:59 PM
Yeah, I think that would've dragged on a bit if it wasn't intercut. Now when they are recording the soundtrack, why not offer Hyperspace members a treat? 20-30 seconds from the new theme.

Gazelle
02-04-2005, 01:01 PM
I was disappointed that we didn't hear Yoda's theme during the duel with Dooku (at least not until the very end). I hope we hear it during his battle with Sidious in the Senate chamber.

Interesting. I find the lack of underscoring during the ANH duel to be one of the most striking and dramatic touches. Holding the music until Ben decides to give it up always gives me chills. There are times when there is "music" in the silence.

the birth of luke and leia is intercut with the birth of vader - the music reflects this also. and:

The birth of Vader, clearly, being paralleled with the birth of Luke and Leia. As babies are handed to people, in another location ‘the helmet’ descends o*nto Anakin’s broken face, to just o*ne chord (minor of course) which builds from p to a deafening fff and back down again

I remember back in Spring 1999, there was a report from Abbey Road where Lucas and Spielberg listened to "Duel of the Fates" for the very first time. Spielberg was in complete awe: "That's amazing!"

And Lucas just cried out: "I don't know how he did it, but he's just scored the last reel of the third movie - and I haven't even written it yet!!!"

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

So, as early as 1999 Lucas had the whole Prequel trilogy plotted, and the true "Duel of the Fates" will come in Ep III.

Here's hoping for a wonderful music score from the maestro - John Williams' final Star Wars score!

Thanks everyone.

Well Pablo has told you so now I can. The end credit sequence is quite different to others in that there are a real variety of medleys, perhaps more then usual. As well as the "Revenge of the Sith" theme there is an EXACT reprise of "The Throne Room" music sequence from Episode IV. You remember that this music starts with those louds trumpets, heralding the scene? Well, it is all there. That was what I meant when I talked of a "very familiar tune in a very unfamiliar place."

It sounded SO original trilogy to me, the only difference being that it occasionally slows down to introduce Ben Kenobi's theme in a fresh way. The score then goes into Princess Leia's theme but I wasn't around long enough to hear that piece.

At first, upon hearing the Throne Room, I wondered if all our theories of Death Stars and sunsets were wrong, as the music didn't seem to fit either scenario. It was only later that I had it confirmed that this was actually part of the end title sequence.

I wouldn't mention this other than the fact that Pablo has already told you and he said I could talk about it once he had written his Post Notes for the day. Pablo is a fun guy too.

Ironically in the half hour I was there to hear the music, there was no accompanying film being projected on the screen, as the end credits have not yet been made, but I did see the "Producer's Lounge" where normally the movie with freshly recorded music would be played back to check it out. Never mind.

Thanks for being excited for me guys. It was great fun and I did bump into George Lucas a couple of times, as well as getting to have a couple of words with Rick McCallum!

Thanks. I think the mastery of this final piece is that it recognises the end of the prequel trilogy. It doesn't pretend that the movies were made in sequence; rather it is "aware" that this is the final Star Wars movie of all time. Subsequently, despite the presupposed gloomy conclusion to the movie, there is a rich fanfare of themes, similar to the little special extra something there was in the ROTJ end titles music. It celebrates the marriage between the two trilogies and the conclusion of the greatest set of science fiction movies ever. It goes out "with a bang!"

The HMV website lists it as being released early May in the UK. I can't get to the website for an exact date as our server is very slow for some reason today. If memory serves, it's either the 5th or the 12th.

EDIT:

It's out in th UK on the 16th of May, the Monday before the movie comes out.

I remember reading that it would be released on the 3rd of May with a bonus DVD (that could be the U.S., but the release date of the soundtrack has been the same here in Europe before). The 16th of May also sounds rather late IMO.

EDIT: According to SonyClassical, the soundtrack will be released in May, no exact date was given though. I checked, and the 3rd of May release date (with bonus DVD) comes from TFN, so I wouldn't call that information 100 % reliable.

Well, music is easier to release as there isn't that mutch translation to be done. Just on the cover and that's it it is translated at all. While movies need subtitles and/or voice-over, the soundtrack is just printed 'as is' from the master, the only thing that's altered is the packaging and in some cases not even that.

So expect to have the soundtrack sooner than you think. (Outside the US/English spoken countries)

Here's a comingsoon summary of the amazing DVD that will be released with the soundtrack:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=8782

On Tuesday, May 3, 2005, Sony Classical will release the original motion picture soundtrack of the last episode of the massively popular "Star Wars" saga, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. It features a new score by five-time Oscar winner John Williams, who is also the composer and conductor of the score for each film in the six-chapter "Star Wars" saga, and an exclusive collector's DVD -- "Star Wars: A Musical Journey" -- an unprecedented bonus at no additional cost.

Created especially to accompany the CD release, the thrilling 70-minute DVD features 16 brand-new music videos set to selections from all six of John Williams' unforgettable "Star Wars" film scores and has been designed around a timeline that will take the viewer chronologically through the entire saga. Each movement is introduced by actor Ian McDiarmid (who plays Senator Palpatine in the films) and features a spectacular montage of images, complete with excerpts of the original dialogue and sound effects, set to Williams' legendary music which has been newly remixed and remastered in 5.1 surround sound. Williams' principal theme from the new score, entitled "Battle of the Heroes," will be featured in a music video created by Lucasfilm.

The soundtrack packaging will also include liner notes from George Lucas plus an exclusive fold-out poster featuring a montage of images from the film.

In "Revenge of the Sith," the final and most dramatic chapter of the "Star Wars" saga, the Clone Wars rage as the rift widens between Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and the Jedi Council. Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the young Jedi Knight with an allegiance to Chancellor Palpatine, struggles to keep his marriage to Padme' Amidala (Natalie Portman) a secret amid the turmoil. Seduced by promises of power and temptations of the dark side, he pledges himself to the evil Darth Sidious and becomes Darth Vader. Together, Sidious and Vader set in motion a plot of revenge against the Jedi, leading to a climatic lightsaber battle between Vader and his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), that will decide the fate of the galaxy.

With 43 Oscar nominations to his credit, Williams has composed a new score for the film, utilizing the themes and musical motives that link it with his earlier scores for the "Star Wars" films. The London Symphony Orchestra (L.S.O), with the composer conducting, performs the original score. The L.S.O. is the same orchestra that recorded Williams' original Star Wars score 28 years ago and has continued to perform the score for each successive chapter of the saga.

SOUNDTRACK RELEASED ON MAY 3, 2005

Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith Opens in Theaters Worldwide on May 19, 2005

NEW YORK, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, May 3, 2005, Sony Classical will release the original motion picture soundtrack of the last episode of the massively popular Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. It features a new score by five-time Oscar winner John Williams, who is also the composer and conductor of the score for each film in the six-chapter Star Wars saga, and an exclusive collector's DVD -- Star Wars: A Musical Journey -- an unprecedented bonus at no additional cost.

Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, written and directed by George Lucas, is the most anticipated movie of the year and opens worldwide o*n Thursday, May 19, 2005.

Created especially to accompany the CD release, the thrilling 70-minute DVD features 16 brand-new music videos set to selections from all six of John Williams' unforgettable Star Wars film scores and has been designed around a timeline that will take the viewer chronologically through the entire saga. The L.S.O. is the same orchestra that recorded Williams' original Star Wars score 28 years ago and has continued to perform the score for each successive chapter of the saga.

In 1999, Sony Classical released the Grammy-nominated original soundtrack recording of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace™, which was a platinum-selling album in the U.S. and sold more than two million copies worldwide, in addition to a specially packaged Ultimate Edition that featured Williams' entire score for that film. In 2002, the label released the original soundtrack recording of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones™. Both are currently available.

In September 2004, Sony Classical became the home of all the Star Wars soundtracks with the release of newly remastered editions of the soundtrack recordings of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope™, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back™ and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi™. The recordings are available individually and in a special boxed set with a deluxe slipcover case.

The Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith soundtrack also continues Sony Classical's long association with John Williams, who has recorded a number of non-film projects for the label. Williams won the third of his five Academy Awards for his score for the original Star Wars (1977) and received nominations for his scores for The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). The soundtrack albums for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back also won Grammy® Awards for Williams in 1977 and 1980, and he was a nominee for Return of the Jedi in 1983 and Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 2000.

I wonder if all 16 of those videos are really going to be "brand new." I mean, there's nothing wrong with the TPM and AOTC ones, so will those be repeated here? I'm very excited to see what they do with the episodes 4, 5 and 6 videos.

Wow that was awesome for you to have been invited to hear the recording of the Episode III soundtrack, Gazelle. The last thing I remember reading on Hyperspace (before I declined to renew my subscription, to save from knowing too much about ROTS before I see it), is that a lucky fan was invited into the recording session. If there was any one part of the film making process I would want to be a part of, I thought to myself, it would be the recording. You are one lucky person.

Back on topic. While I eagerly await the release of the ROTS soundtrack and the main theme, Battle of the Heroes, I have undertaken a thorough study of the few snippets already released. This is a summary of my impressions, please let me know what you guys think:

Of the "Tragedy" seqeunce, the chorus sounds just like the "Final Duel" scene in ROTJ, except faster and more intense.

At the particular scene in the teaser when a clormtrooper is overtaken by an explosion on a Republic cruiser, the music is surely the first three notes of the classic Rebel theme.

This one took me some time. But the rest of the trailer, including the scene where undoubtedly Palpatine reveals his true intentions to the Senate, sounds similar to "Main Title/Rebel Blockade Runner" as we all remember the first time we saw the immensely terrifying likeness of a Star Destroyer for the first time.

As it appears (and as I hope), "Battle of the Heroes" will be nothing truely new. And as the final theme for a Star Wars movie, it is all together fitting that it encompasses all the previous themes and melodies of the other five. As a result, it will be for Star Wars fans a "walk through memory lane", and a tribute to all the long years, money, and emotion spent on a great saga. Or so I hope.

Master Magnus

03 - Battle Of The Heroes 3:42
15 - A New Hope and End Credits 13:06

BTW,is it just me or is Battle of the Heroes very Conan-ish?

I can also see why Duel of the Fates wasn't needed. BotH is just as heavy.

Just blown away by all of them. John Williams is the greatest.

Senator Theant
04-09-2005, 06:14 AM
Tell you the truth, BotH wasnt as suspensful as Id hoped, though it is without question a great track. BotH is definitely a stand alone theme from DotF, but I dont think it captures as much emotion as DotF. DotF set the bar too high, though I think that's unfair because it is in fact the theme for the entire PT. BotH is a great piece.

My favorite part of all three was found in the first track. Towards the end, around 5:21. Definitely what sounded like a newer rendition of the dark and menacing Separatist theme found once before in track 10 of the AotC soundtrack (Return to Tatooine). I dont know why but I absolutely loved that theme.

The last track was a nice audio montage, but Im sure itll play out better on screen, even though all that we'll be seeing is rolling credits. Perhaps I just wasnt in the sentimental mood, I didnt appreciate the final, drawn out, renditions of Luke's theme played for the 10th time in a row.

Great preview!

Wow! John Williams does it again! There's nothing bad you could say about this at all and if you did - then you have no sense or taste. BOH is excellent and grows on me more and more with each listen.

Brillant stuff...especially the end credits. I can't wait to see Owen and Beru looking at the twin suns with Baby Luke and the Force Themes swells up to that point...I might not make it.

Does anyone know what to do with torrent files? Yep, I'm almost totally computer illiterate, and I've no idea what to do with it. Or does anyone know where I can get the End Credits track? Any help here would be hot. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

OK, I've got it, but it won't play the files, because ".mp3 is not a file QuickTime understands" - I don't get this, as I've never had a problem playing mp3s before. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/giveup.gif

I'm completely lost now. I'll just wait around until I find a host that has an mp3, I guess.

I said I wanted to stay spoiler free about the soundtrack.

Well, I failed, and I don't even regret it, because it's so beautifull!!!!!!!!

And just as everything I've read, heard or seen about RoTS, it's too good to be true. But it's amazing, because IT'S TRUE.

Just imagining the scenes with the real music almost brought me to tears, how will I handle it seeing it big screen and big sound? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohwell.gif

This final track (or at least part of it) is what I heard in Abbey Road back in February. NOW can you see why I went crazy over it?!!

It's amazing. Has anyone got the "Skywalker Symphony" CD that JW conducted in the early 90s? This new double version of the Throne Room Theme is from that very symphony. I adore the second version, with the quiet statement of the Force Theme.

If the movie is any bit as epic as the soundtrack, the movie will OWN me.

I LOVE BOTH

it's a great song, the choir helps give it this sense of tragedy and sadness, yet at the same time it's....what's a good word....deadly?

I'm 11 tracks in and this thing is fabulous. It just passed The Phantom Menace, Return of the Jedi, and Attack of the Clones on my list of favorites and it's quickly gaining speed on A New Hope.

Empire better watch it's back...
