EU Figures

When I was at Comic-Con, I went to the Hasbro Presentation. They showed what they would be doing in the coming year, mostly talking about the OTC line and the Vintage OTC line. Then they had a Q & A section. So, after I worked up the courage, I asked them about reviving the EU figure line, if they would, when, etc. They said that they were considering it, or something like that, and then asked the audience and I what figures we would like to see. I said the NJO, and then they asked what specific figures. Being as nervous as I was, I said, "Oh, umm, the main characters, really. Like Jacen, Jaina, Anakin Skywalker style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl.gif And then some people suggested the Vong. Anyway, the moral of the story is, or ratehr, the question I'm getting at is, what figures would you like to see made in an EU line. What ships, 12 inch dolls, etc.

then there could be your generic vong warriors, maybe four of them, different armor and such

vehicles, i'd like to see a coralskipper, an updated x-wing maybe? a black falcon? that'd be pretty cool

I would like a line of Mandalorian Warrior action figures. You could have the early ones, the under Jango Fett Mandalorians, and the NJO Mandalorians. Not quite EU per-se (well it is, kinda) But I would like to see a Wedge Antilles action figure that isn't basically a flight suit Luke with brown hair, that I don't have to buy a carrying case or an X-wing or something else to get.

Maybe one in his "Civilian" clothing.

All of the fighter pilots, ever, and a rehash of Thrawn, Mara, etc. Oh, pregnant Mara, Leia, and a Ben Skywalker. The vong, all the NJO biggies, maybe a Chewie and Ackbar memorial figure. Going back to the fighters, All the Rogues, from the different time periods, like movies, post RotJ, NJO, etc, the Wraiths, and their support groups. Definately some ships and playsets. Thas all I got for now.

To make a long story short, basically we will never get figures based on novels or comics because the decisionmakers at Hasbro are myopic doo-doo heads. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif They're right to point out that EU figures will never be as popular as film figures, but there is a significant degree of demand. If not enough for retail, then some kind of Fanclub exclusive. Maybe in five years after they've exhausted every single hyperobscure background alien, they'll again toy with the idea of EU figures ... only to shoot it down again. Bah!

Although in fairness, they did do the Clone Wars line recently. And of course the Shadows of the Empire and short-lived EU lines back in the day, but those were so long ago as to be irrelevant to the present.

Heck, I'd be ecstatic with a simple rerelease of the SOTE and EU lines on new cards. Seriously, I would welcome that with open arms and open wallet.

And to be quite honest, if they were ever going to do NJO figures it would have been 2 or 3 years ago. The CW line was released simultaneous to the novels and comics, and with the NJO saga ending in late 2003 I think the window of opportunity has closed. Then again, there will be a resurgence of interest in that era when the post-NJO blitz commences, so who knows....

Guys, there were some EU figures produced back in 1998. Heck I even own a few. But most never sold well enough for them to continue.

Yep... EU figs don't sell as well as PT and OT figs... I LOVE my Dark Trooper fig from Dark Forces... he's freakin' huge!

I love the 98 figures chief and I gotta say I was excited about them back then and I would be now again.Thrawn,Dark luke,mara jade,Spacetrooper,Kyle Katarn and of course Darktrooper are some of my favorite figures by far,the only figure I didnt get was leia.of course Das rendar and Xizor fall in there too and I love them too the outrider is one of my favorite vehicles.although I can understand them not selling as most dont know who they are style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/royalguard.gif

man im gld i have all of those,for me Darktrooper and Mara Jade were by far the hardest to get,I aso loved the cut out backgrounds on the cards,the ones that came with Katran and Thrawn were especially cool.the Darktrooper is just awesome its his sheer size he the spacetrooper and Thrawn are a must for any imperial collection shelf

I paid $20 for my Mara Jade last summer on eBay, and because of how much I paid for her, I am determined to keep her in the box, even though I'd like to have her out and posed next to a Luke figure. It would be so great to have a new line of EU figures, so I could go out and buy a Mara Jade just to have out of the box.
