Hello all,

New here to the Star Wars art scene, but thought I would post a few things I did this weekend, albeit hurriedly. I was skimming the Star Wars: A New Hope novelization by George Lucas and was reminded in the earliest parts of all the cut scenes from Tatooine and such. Then I went back, looked at some of the lost scenes provided on T-Bones site, (Wonderful!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ok.gif ) and listened to the early chapters of the Radio Drama. As a result, I was inspired to do these little ditties. They are 3D renderings with some Photoshop fun on top.

Later at Toshi Station-link (http://hometown.aol.com/graldry/images/toshi.jpg)

They are basically just different views of what Luke may have seen through his Macrobinocs While he was out dusting off moisture vaporators. One for the beginning fight (which is what probably caught his eye), one for the capture of the Tantive IV, and one for the lackluster view his friends at Toshi Station would later see. ("Probably just a freighter refueling") I have titled the whole series "Distractions of a Farmboy."

I have seen some web graphics that make use of the "binoc view," and I have seen other 3D renditions of the opening scene from the first film, but I just don't recall seeing something like this, so when I got the idea I was happy to play with it for the weekend. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I modeled the Star Destroyer and the Tantive from scratch, but they are extremely primitive when viewed without all the distortions. But they serve their purpose for these shots anyway, and I only spent the better part of a day on them. They are purposefully messy, both for the limited detail of the models, and my intent to recreate the realism of Luke's binocs as much as possible. I had planned to make the viewfinder details different for every shot the way I did for the backgound static, but that will have to wait till later.

Hope you like. C & C welcome.

Wow! Great stuff, Basill. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif I remember reading those descriptions in the novelisation, and I think you've really captured the right look. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Thanks. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif Just a bit of fun on a weekend. I was mostly happy with the overall look and direction of lighting, which I tried to faithfully match-up to the movie effects and some of the cut footage. That was easier for the scene with Luke looking up from vaporator locale than for the Toshi station sequence, since that was obviously filmed at different times of the day.

Planned to work on them some more, but haven't gotten back to it. Had a friend tell me the viewer frame looked a bit too flat or crisp. So, in addition to changing the number readouts for each picture, I will probably try to get some of the features to look more like LED back-lit gels or a scratchy video screen display. Certainly more scratchy. Might even flirt with some attempt at animation, but I wouldn't know where to begin, so that's a ways off.

Again, thanks. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Those were fantastic, Basill! Very much like the effects from the movies.

I'd like to see more of this kind of stuff from you Basill. I'll wait patiently for you to finish these to the way you want the final version though.
