Where is Yoda from? and what kind of alien is he?

I have heard that Yoda is from an unknown and rare species. It is possible he is the only one left of his species by AOTC. Before the PT came out, I was always under the impression that he was from Dagobah, but now I think his birthplace will always be unknown.

I used to think he was from dagobah too. Although I remember reading an EU book that had a character who talked like Yoda, but i dont think they said his home planet.

I think that if guys from Yoda's species live for such a long time(almost a millenium) there should be more of them somewhere(maybe out of the SW galaxy?).

Or maybe Yoda and Yaddle are that old because of their attune with the Force?

I thought I heard something about an early name for Star Wars being Journal of the Whylls, an alien race. It was speculated that Yoda was a Whyll. Who knows the mind of Lucas except for him (and maybe his kids)?

Ahhh, yes, the Journal of the Whills. *The who, where, and why have intrigued me for 25 years.

I know of 2 places where it is mentioned. The original place and Lonesaber's custom title.

One place I know that it is mentioned is the original softcover book of Star Wars printed in 1976. I have the book and it is there in the prologue.

The ANH novelisation is the only place I know of where the "Journal" is mentioned. *Actually, as far as I know it is the one and only place that the prequel story is found outside of the stuff we've seen since TPM was released. *In it is a one-page summary of the prequel story, telling about Senator Palpatine taking power and declaring himself Emperor; about how the imperial bureucrats (no mention of Vader) "through intrigue and deception" destroyed the Jedi Knights. *It ends with "From the First Saga, Journal of the Whills".

Back to the topic, the AOTC Visual Dictionary says that Yoda has never revealed where he comes from, and his species is rarely seen anywhere in the galaxy.

I think the right person to put in Episode III, is not some Yaddle! Put in Bontu Dinn, Yoda's master. I did not make this name up, I've heard Bontu Dinn trained Yoda. But I don't know what he looks like.

Is he possible the Red-skinned whill standing next to Yoda at ending scene of TPM?

My script i posted explains Bontu Dinn a little bit, and he's a good addition, and puts some sense into why Yoda would go to Dagobah in the first place!
