View Full Version : Welcome New Members! (And Old)
Hey everyone, hopefully this will be our new home. We had some problems with the old test forum. I welcome all our new members. Ep. II is only days away, hopefully this forum will become just as comfortable as the old Council and Senate did. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif

Hello! *Congratulations to anyone who can remember me. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
(I was on the Jedinet board waaay back in the day... started posting as Bithsith1 in the summer of 1998, I believe.)
Well, just thought I'd stop in and rekindle some old friendships because AOTC is so close, and this is a time to celebrate.

EDIT: *Lara, that's great news. *I wish you luck!! *Now that I'm a resident in the U.S., I can finally pursue schooling again. * It looks like I'll be able to enroll in the U of M for spring semester of next year. *I'm looking to get a Bachelor's in Psychology.
Hey Everyone, we're finally live! Yes, after two months this is now the official new home for the Council and the Senate. I'd like to welcome all our new members and all our returning friends!

Hi Smeg. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Lara, I was in computer art and design (when I was initially in the states on a student visa), but I found out that the degree I was pursuing wasn't transferable to a university. * Luckily, I pulled out before I had invested too much time in it. *So, this time around I am going to study what I truly love (even though I will have to get a student loan to do so). *

My hubby and I had to be seperated for 6 months... I was stuck in Canada while we waited for my Fiancé Visa to be processed. *It was torture, because I had been living with him in the States on a Student Visa. *Well, I finally got approval, and came back to Minnesota in August. *We got married and filed our petition for my Permanent Residence in September, and we just had our interview and got approved yesterday. *Woo hoo!!
I can't say how happy I am for you two... this must be such a relief.

Smeghead, if you have seen season 8 then you won't be seeing any more Red Dwarf for a while.
Thts because they postponed season 9 so they could work on the MOVIE.
It should either be really good or really bad. Either way here's for hoping it will be really funny.
Preferably with a Holly intro.

I'm glad things worked out for you Bith.
It's actually very encouraging to hear, I'm going through a terrible process right now... Last week I had to leave my girlfriend at the airport, knowing I wouldn't be seeing her again for months and I just cried more then I had in years. Yeah, I saw her online again that night. But it was just so terrible to lose her like that...
We haven't got into any of the options of moving yet. She's still in college for another year... and we need that done first since neither of us can make any money.
She could move up here to Canada, but we're kind of worried that the goverment would consider she's just moving up here for health care benifits (she has a rare genetic disorder that costs her thousands in the states... but would be treated free up here.)
And there aren't many jobs in animation up here... she wants to work for Pixar or ILM or something... and has a few connections there.
Me getting into the US would be nearly impossible though. Espically after last September. I don't perticuarly want to either, I'd rather her be up here for health care reasons... she gets treated terrible down there right now... but I can't really push for that, since there's no work up here.
Anyways, I just came here today because I was feeling very lonley and wanted to see some familiar faces (or names rather.)
It was nice to see you again Bith. Take care.

Thanks guys.
Bith, we've not really done much yet because right now, even if I could just walk over and stay there, I couldn't because neither of us could afford it. Now, when she's done school and if she can get a good job in animation, then we might be able to have me visit for a few months at a time. Then maybe eventually get some kind of temp visa so I can work there. Then get it perm some time after that.
But still, that's a bit away.

Indeed? Where did you see such a thing? Is it online, so I can read it?
Actually, it's on Fan Fiction.net (http://fanfiction.net), and written by "Nancing Elf". *Though, a word of warning- it's a slash story (some people just aren't into that kind of eroticism). *
I live in Norway, and my boyfriend lives in Oregon...so we don't get to see each other very often... I am stuck here for at least another year before Seani and I can even think of moving together...neither of us have the money to do so yet.

Yeah. Sometimes I worry that our relationship won't last...but we're trying to.This separation thing's tearing both me and Seani apart.

Hi Nerf - besides the ridiculous train system life is just fine - I go home in 3 weeks YES Separation over!!!! But for me it was my momma - I just couldn't deal any longer so far from my momma - she's my best friend and it was sooo hard going on vacations without her - even harder not to call every night to tell her what I saw.... But 3 weeks and I get my country, momma, language, home, mountains, weather, WORK, sisters, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, Grandpa, friends, Freedom Back!!!!!! So I totally understand everyone's separation problems now ... even if mine are a bit different...
But boy are customs hard to figure out - it took me almost 2 days now to finally find out how much Cheese I can bring back!!!! Definitely bringing back as much as possible!!!!!!

Teek, I had to re-register for this site. Don't know why. I was regularly posting on the former site under the same name and password. I would always go there through my 'favorites', which I added from the link in the email I recieved from Vader when the forum first opened in late March (I think). Anyway, last time i went to Jedinet forum I clicked on the link for The Galactic Council, and it was a bit different. When i went to log on, I wasn't a member. I'm not sure what happened, and I guess it's not a huge deal, but any posts that I did have are gone, so that's wierd. Am I making any sense? Do you know what might have happened? *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

Heehee - yeah Nerf stinky suitcase is right... but the benefits of REAL CAMABERT in the land of pasturisation far out weighs that slight annoyance!!!!
AS for AOTC - I LOVE RENNES - it is one of the few cities over here that are doing "Avant-Premieres" Which means I have a ticket for TONIGHT!!!!!! 20:45 local time - that would be 2:45 EST (or is that now EDT?) SOOOO a whole day before the French release that I feared I would have to wait for - and only 6.5 hours from now - as we speak I am sitting in the comp lab at school in costume - regardless of the fact I am BOILING and that people are looking at me funny and my hair has so much gel it could stay in place with out the bobby pins!!!! though it does look rather droopy compared to Padmé from the photo's but I have grow it out to Leia's length which is about Twice that of Padmé's so it's a bit heavy to expect any better!!!! I am Bouncing right now - and no one seems to understand why - crazy French!!!!

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Well I miss the Discus thing, but I have to admit this board is pretty good. I'm impressed with it so far.
One thing I noticed is the change in uploading graphics. Used to be that you could post with a picture showing. Now you can still post it, but it remains a link if you want to see it. I can understand that, speeding up the load time on graphic intensive threads w/o showing every single picture. Anyway, if you actually want to see it, you could just click on the link. Brilliant.

Hey people of JN!
Do you ANY of you remember me? This is Lucas, the guy who used to come in and hang around Jedinetwork back when that thing was up. I've been away from Star Wars for awhile now and I haven't visited any SW sites up until the release of EPII trying to avoid the spoilers. I always thought it ruined TPM for me. Now I realize that TPM pretty much sucked anyway, minus the sweet Lightsaber battle at the end!
ANYWAY, I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that Ghentz was the guest Star Wars geek on Comedy Central's Beat the Geeks. Congrats to Ghentz!
Ah, I miss the good 'ol Jedinetwork days on IRC! Well, that's about it. I was just curious to see if anyone here even remembers me.
I mean, lord... I was run'n the JN Software section as "Fett" for like.. uhhh... four or five months or something.

I just joined a few days ago. Never really knew there were places like this on the web. I've gone to several Star Wars sites over the years but never seemed to find a communications board to bounce ideas around.
I've read several threads already. Seems like I know most of you. Keep up the good work. You guys give nerds like us a good name.
Sorry about all the colors and smiley faces. Just practicing.

Welcome, Darth Kyle, it's good to have a fellow SW geek here.
LOL is laughing out loud. *In addition, in case you haven't seen them before, ROTFLMAO is rolling on the floow laughing my a$$ off. *In our discussions and debates in the Classic Trilogy and Prequels sections, we use a lot of IMO-in my opinion, IMHO-in my humble opinion, TOT-the original trilogy, GFFA-galaxy far far away, AFAIK-as far as I know, FWIK, from what I know, and of course you probably already figured out ANH, TESB, ROTJ, TPM, and AOTC.
Take care, and have fun here.

Welcome, DK. I think you'll enjoy this site, until you realize it's part of The Conspiracy To Suck Up All Your Free Time (TCTSUAYFT). You'll spend countless hours of your time perusing the fathomless depths of these discussions. This place is like the Sarlaac. You'll sit at your computer, reading and posting, as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.

Tovor, Trilogist and Vyndim - thanks for the hello. I've been told, now that I regularly read and post on these threads, that I've become a certifiable nerd and even geek. I don't care. My wife can call me whatever she wants. She's called me worse. I guess I'm going to have to take the computer out of the bedroom so I don't disturb her sleep so much. My kids love it though. I'm secretly turning them into geeks. Both of them are already Star Wars fans. I planted that seed early. What better way is there to spend your free time, and sometimes your bosses time, catching up on fresh ideas of things you love? I think it would take more than 1000 years to read everything that is posted on this site.

Darth Kyle, we're all geeks to a certain extent. *I have gone to see AOTC several times by myself, since I am not married, have no kids, and none of my friends are into SW the way I am (maybe I should get different friends then), and I feel like a complete SW geek when I'm alone on line and everybody else on line are either groups of teenagers, or parents with their children. But so what. *I get to the window and tell the teen worker as he looks to see how many are with me, "I'm a 35 year old SW geek. Just give me the ticket and stop staring."
Nah, I'm just joshing you. *I never said that, although when I debated with the 16 year old theatre employee about which was better, TPM or AOTC, I did say I was a 35 year old geek and I've been into SW since "oh, before you were born". *You really have to wonder, do the SW films simply remind us of the joys of our childhood, or do they remind us that we're still kids and that we've really never matured?

I don't get it. Is there some sort of inside joke with calling people Fred, Bruce, or Barney? *
Well, if its inside her its not a joke if she laughs. *As far as an inside joke, well, it has nothing to do with Bruce, and the name Bruce had no relation to Fred as Fred has a relation to Barney, and the pairing of the names Fred and Bruce had nothing to do with Kyle or with the inside joke other than being two unrelated names that I picked out of the air to use because at the time Ernest and Horatio did not come to my mind. *But it is an inside joke that I told Blizz about a long while back, although it was not a joke that was inside Blizz but just an inside joke, and that being that there was a man with a modest pet dinosaur named Dino and two nuts named Fred and Barney.
However, I was not even remotely thinking about those two when I posted to Kyle. Blizz, you got too good a memory, remembering things I said decades ago! :look:
Damn its so late. Damn I should be sleeping. This is ridiculous, we need more hours in a day. Who do I ***** at for that?
Hey DK, welcome :p

I thought I knew what Fred and Bruce and even Barney were referring to, but know I'm not so sure. You guys have confused me.
As far as being old (Tovor) and still into SW, I find it kind of sad that people our age (30 something) don't care for it any more. It's something I will always remember as a big part of my growing up. And thanks to incredible timing on GL's part, it will be a big part of my kids childhood as well. I guess I'm lucky having kids that are into SW. It gives me an excuse for going to the movies so much and buying the figures. I'd do it even if I didn't have kids but it certainly makes life easier. My 5 year old son has already had 4 birthdays that have the Star Wars theme. I don't see it ending anytime soon.

well Tovor I for one have to say it's that we're still kids and never matured. I don't want to grow up. I'm a Toys 'R' Us kid.
No seriously, it can't be just a reminder of our childhood. Otherwise, we'll all be just sitting around the porch, reminiscing. But we're actually still into it, going to the movies, speculating, and spending lots of time at Star Wars websites. We're still kids.

When a topic is pinned, it means it will stay at the topic of the page and will not go down. That way it's always there for everyone to see; generally topics like welcoming threads or announcements are pinned to make sure people see them.

08-10-2002, 12:26 PM
Cc, what skin are you using? *You can set your background skin to black like the old JN boards.
Go to Control Panel, then Account Options, then Board Skin, and set it for "Council". *It'll do its job well, I guarantee it. *Wow, now I'm getting like Trilogist, quoting SW lines in everyday discussions.
But dude, we need you here, you're our only hope. *What I mean is, in making this like the old JN boards, we need old JN posters, the old-timers, so come back and infest the place. *Well maybe infest was a bad word. *Populate is a better choice. *I miss the old boards too, but that's really due to the people who were involved back then. *As far as this one, I didn't like the layout at first because I had been accustomed to the old JN, but I got used to it and it grew on me. *I would now choose this layout over the old, but still have the old posters back as well as the new.
cc4rhu
08-13-2002, 05:40 PM
It's not the skins Tovor, which I do have set to the JN one. It's the fact that you post a messgae, go back 24 hours later and it's buried deep, deep, down lost amongst the current topic which changes daily. It's nearly impossible to follow threads. Look at the com chatter thread!

08-13-2002, 08:13 PM
I see your point, Cc, I do. *The old Jedinet forum had become like that as well toward the end if I remember, with the scrolling threads. *It is a problem when so many people, rather than actually reading the threads that are there and adding to them, or looking down the page or the next for a topic similar to their pending idea, just create a whole new thread about the same subject which was scrolled down to make room for their new one. *And then before you know it you have a half dozen to a dozen threads about the very same thing, and people lose track of which thread they posted in last, or the train of discussion that was ongoing earlier, and have to start all over again in one of the others about the same subject. *It makes the job of moderator a bit more difficult and frustrating when we have to constantly remind people that their brand new and exciting subject is already being discussed in extensive length in 2 other threads. *But the mods here are working on that, and clear progress is being made. *So stick around dude, even as a non-mod, and help us make a difference by bringing back a bit of the old style forum we all remember.
Welcome back, Bluesaber. * style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
