A buddy of mine told me the other day that he had heard somewhere that Lucas was considering selling the rights to Episodes VII-IX to Spielberg.

Has anyone else seen anything about this?

I think that it would be awesome because we would still be able to see the final three episodes that Lucas originally intended and since Lucas and Spielberg are such good friends, they would be made with Lucas' best interests in mind.

If it's true, than that's great.

But originally the saga (which was to have 9 and at one time even 12 episodes) was the adventures of Luke Skywalker and there was not going to be 1 through 3 they were just going to keep making more after 6, now it's all about Anakin.

Whatever these 3 episodes may be, it would have to be a completely new story.

I imagine that since the OT begins 18 years after the PT then Episode VII would begin 18 years after the OT.

I'm not using the EU as proof but it could possibly include Leia and Han's children and even Luke's, if he has any. There is always an evil lurking about for them to have to confront.

Personally though I would like to see them change the OT to Episodes VII-IX and make a trilogy that takes place between the PT and the OT. I would love to see the Empire as they rise to power, see Vader in his prime, and to see the coming of age of Boba Fett, among other things also.

Personally, I'd like to see SW movies involving the current NJO series of books. The Solo kids and a whole new generation of Jedi leading the way...plus you have the originals (Luke, Han, Leia, etc.) always making contributions.

Plus, I think the Yuuzhan Vong would be a great onscreen enemy.

That would be pretty cool, but I seriously doubt that's true.

that would be nice to see but he would realy have to think what they would be about

Hmmm, this is a tough one. I always relate situations like this to the "Alien" movie saga. James Cameron took over for the second movie and super-charged it. Aliens was awesome. A fantastic sequel. Then, another person took over part 3 and, in my opinion, ruined the series.

So it depends. Some have the ability to take over a movie series and keep the spirit of the original intact. Others do not. I guess I'd have faith in Spielberg.

Amazingly ive heard of this rumor too, Speilberg is said to love the Saga(one of the reasons he and Lucas are such good friends) and was even in talks to help with the Prequels but because of other obligations and projects couldnt take an active role. But, he has expressed the desire to see Lucas make 7,8,9 and has said that if Lucas doesnt feel to continue he would offer to buy the rights so he could make the rest. We'll just have to see ,me for one I think Speilberg can do it and if Lucas doent he should, because I would like to see 7,8,9 done in my lifetime.

OK I'm just glad to hear that someone else had heard this too.

I think it would be awesome.

As usual I disagree with the majority. I don't want to see any episodes VII-IX. As it stands now, Star Wars is a great story arc about the life of Anakin Skywalker. If Episodes VII-IX are ever made, it would change this. I think that, when Episode III is complete, the whole saga together will be an extraordinary tale. The hardest part of writing any story, is coming up with an ending. Currently, Star Wars ends beautifully..... when Luke stands up and says "Never, I'll never turn to the Dark Side. You failed your highness, I am a Jedi like my father before me." This is the perfect ending. So in closing I would like to say "Please, please, please, I beg of you George, please don't mess with the ending!"

That would be cool. Although I'm hopeful the rumor is indeed true, I'm not holding my breath just yet.

The general feeling is that the Sarwars saga is about the life of Anakin Skywalker, but, I think that with the addition of VII-IX it could be called the saga of the Skywalker family, which is still pretty cool!

I don't care if Steven Spielberb takes it over or not. I just hope there'll be VII-IX at all.

People let it go. There is no 7, 8, or 9. No matter how much we want it.

I was thinking just yesterday that spin-off movies from the Star Wars saga would be cool. I am not necessarily saying episodes VII-IX, but other films kind of like Star Trek has done.

X-3PO

Yes a friend of mine and I were discussing this, something like the Ewok movies only with maybe the story of Darth Maul or something along those lines.

QuigonWindu

Yeah Star Wars spinoffs. Star Wars: The Wookie Years.

Exactly. Or perhaps with new Star Wars characters.

If thats true than its pretty sweet.

If they did make a new trilogy, if they use the EU, I reckon the Thrawn trilgy would be the best one to make. If they make up a new story, I think they should hire Mark Hammil, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher and set it about 20 years later. But then they would need to have a bad-arse enough enemy to fight. Clones would be cool, or something the Emperor left behind and they just found out about it.

Anyway, if they do make it I pray they don't bugger it up.

Mann
12-12-2002, 10:14 PM
Exactly! I think that its the solo kids vs a younger Emperor Clone (this is if Sidious is a clone of Palpatine or vice versa) and we see the Emperor in his prime. And the the NEW Anakin can kick his ass and fulfill his duty.

I don't wanna see any more movies, but a cartoon series (loosely) based on the EU would be nice.

i'd love to see the thrawn tri. on the big screen. and even the njo too. hey they already have the stories, all they would need would be a really good director. which he would be one.

How about a real series.

Well, I didn't hear anything about the Spielberg thing, but it would sure interest me to know who they would choose for Thrawn (if its on). I have always favoured an Episode VII-IX than an episode I-III. Figures like Garm Bel-iblis would also interest me.
I personally don't mind who ever does the diecting, because we saw very good directing on Empire and Jedi style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eh.gif (maybe as opposed to the Episode i storyline) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

A real series with real actors? No thanks. If they do a good job on the cartoon, it'll be, erm, good.

Darth Darthy
12-28-2002, 05:58 PM
Oops. I posted to this without reading the original page.
Lucas is NOT selling the rights to any SW property (sounds like unfeasablely stupid tripe). He IS however making 1 series - a spin off - of the events between ep2-3. Ala "Shadows of the Pervy Lizardman". It's gonna be a cartoon and probably games etc.

I doubt if 7-9 will happen, but if it does I would like to see it include the NJO storyline. Even if they don't do it live action with real actors, anything would be better than nothing.

Mann

The best Thrawn would be Jeremy Irons. He already looks evil!

I have seen SS say that he would love to direct a SW episode, but GL would not let him.. GL said it was his baby.

I have also seen GL say that the third trilogy was intended to follow the adventures of a characted that survives EP III, that would mean Ben, Vader or Yoda. That is from the mouth of the man.

I would be cool for SS to direct EP III or any future ones, but in many ways, I hope there are no more after EP III.

Episodes VII-IX could follow the exploits of Jar Jar.

Just kidding.

Ok, so I was at work last Friday listening to the BBC Radio 1 when the news came on. They do five minute bulletins every half hour or so. One story {that only lasted a coulpe of seconds} was that George Lucas had inadvertently revealed that EpIII 'quite possibly' WONT be the last Starwars film and that 7, 8 and 9 all could happen. Apparently he let it slip while doing another interview last week!!!! Although I didnt catch what interview.

Does anyone know anything more about this recent turn of events?

If GL decides to have more episodes, he needs to have them be directed by different directors. Personal Choice: Peter Jackson.

Shyamalan or *gasp* Kevin Smith if he can get his act together.

Heres how I see it:

Episode VII- Steven Speilberg (gets the corwd excited)

Episode VIII- Peter Jackson (big epic battle)

Episode IX- David Fincher (the movie will be a dark one)

Shaylaman maybe. I thin khe's too much of a horror guy. Star Wars isn't scary.

FerrisWiel
01-20-2003, 12:55 PM
Why would ep9 be dark? Is it setting up a 10-12 trilogy?

My list would be:

Ep 7 - Alex Proyas - Dark
Ep 8 - M. Night Shyamalan - Mysterious
Ep 9 - Peter Jackson - Epic
