You don't really need to know anything to start the NJO. The authors did a good job at writing the books so that people could pick up there. Then they could go back and fill in the blanks with the other books if they wanted to.

If you're looking for some more books to read before you read VP, I'd read the Hand of Thrawn duology (Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future), and the Young Jedi Knight books, and the Junior Jedi Knight books (Just to catch up on the charaters of the Solo kids). You can find the titles and authors listed in the Novels Checklist (http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=1957) at the top of the Books & Comics forum.

Hope that helps.

I just read Vector Prime. Was wondering what people thought of it. I was kind of surprised that it ended with the NR sort of defeating the Y Vong. I thought things would progress more slowly and the YV would win all the beginning battles of their invasion. I figured the first few books would be nothing but defeats for the NR. The disappointing thing was that the book sort of wrapped itself up as if it were meant to be stand alone. Also, have to get used to the idea of all this bio-technology. What I always liked about the original movies was that there was not too much science involved. Just that technology was a bit more advanced than ours. Now it is getting outside the realm of comprehension. What I liked was that Chewie died. Not that I wanted to see him go, just that it makes it more real that the heros don't get off scott free every time and everyone ELSE dies.

I wouldn't have minded if the book contained less action and more story about the YV setting up in the galaxy. But there was a TON of action and that was fun. Except I thought the YV warriors died a bit too easily. They don't seem so scary yet.
