Found this discription at the SFBC...
One of Zonama Sekot's organic ships is taken by the alien invaders, and assigned to scientist Nen Yim, who must find weak spots in the living planet's technology. But what she discovers shocks her to the core. For the peace-loving planet harbors not only the key to its own destruction, but the long-forgotten secrets of the Yuuzhan Vong themselves.
Meanwhile, General Wedge Antilles, commanding one fleet in a three-pronged campaign to retake the Bilbringi system, is suddenly stranded deep in Yuuzhan Vong space, cut off from all contact. Wedge and his ships must rely on trickery and brilliant battle tactics if they are to survive long enough to ensure the success of one of the deadliest and most crucial missions the Galactic Alliance forces have ever undertaken…
I'd heard the stuff from the second paragraph before, but not the first paragraph! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

I hope its a real long book. I haven't been this excited for an a new NJO book since Traitor. It sounds like Nen Yim is really going to discover some very useful things though for the Vong. Things that will really help them it seems.
Im hoping for some really awesome tactics from Wedge like we saw in Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand.

DarthSolowhats the page count for it?
364 pages (according to the SFBC) Though that could just be their edition.

^that aint too bad.
Ive always got this wierd feeling that Nen Yim is not loyal to the Yuuzhan Vong at all. Maybe its just me, but i wonder if Tahiri going to Yuzan'tar will hook her up with Nen Yim. Nen Yim may turn on the Yuuzhan Vong. Ive just never had a loyal feeling from that shaper, yaknow what i mean?
Luvinna
09-26-2003, 01:37 PM
Yeah, Nen Yim has seemed like more of a heretic at times then any of the Shamed Ones. What with the 8th Cortex and all (that's what it's called, right?). I'm very curious as to what those secrets are though and how they might change how the YV fight, and will it give them the upper edge? I hope not. Will Shimrra be revealed for the fraud alot of people think he is now? Will we learn where the YV came from? I still have just a ton of questions about those guys that haven't been answered yet.
Tahiri and her hooking up would be interesting, too. Especially w/ Tahiri's new personality.
Soontir Solo

I think Nen Yim is very loyal to the Yuuzghan Vong, just not to any one Vong in particular. She also doesn't believe in the Gods so she knows the YV leadership is bogus. She is very intelligent and heretical which can make her seem disloyal to the Vong but she seems very loyal to her species. She wants them to win the war, she works hard to solve there problems, she is working to build the 8th cortex for Shimmra, and she really hates the infidels.
I think Tahiri/Riina is going to meet up with Nom and end up helping him somehow. Though she won't know its Nom I don't think.

Im really unsure bout Nen, i said i had a weird feeling about her, and i still do. I can see her siding with the Shamed Heretics and the Prophet, maybe via Tahiri, the Jeedai who was shaped. Who knows, there is alot in the air like luv said! cant wait man!

Well, after listening to the audio preview of The Unifying Force, something tells me that Nen Yim will be siding with "the Prophet" in one way or another.

well I finished the book last night and I have to say that I was sort of disappointed. The book lacked something. To me it put everything in the hands of the last book. I figured we would get some answers in this one, but he only gave you a "little" taste to what is to come....
But however, speculation, I think that it is going to finish the way I said it would a while back...

I think what Harrar said about there being some YV that don't side with Shimraa may be true, there have been other things pointing to the fact that Shimraa took the polyp throne when he shouldn't have. But I would have liked to know the big secret of Zonama Sekot, if we don't get it in TUF, I'm going to be one upset guy.

Just finished it myself. Excellent setup, I agree.
And, as I said over at the Official Site's TFP thread, I will swear to you all here:
If the end of the series winds up being that the galaxy-shattering discovery is that the Yuuzhan Vong are somehow descendants of or remnants of the original Sith species from way back when, I will burn every last copy of my New Jedi Order novels and denounce Star Wars as a whole, so help me God.
I kid you not.

Meezhan Kwaad was a great Heretic, she could have easily stolen Nen Yim's memories and given them to Riina Kwaad. Since they are of the same Domain, and relatively the same age, give or take 10 years, then it would kinda make sense for that to happen.

God, Wedge was SO cool in this book. I have been waiting for the NJO to give him another major mission since Enemy Lines, this book was great.
Soontir Solo
10-05-2003, 07:17 AM
As I said, Wedge didn't die.
I have finished the book now and must say that was good, but not great. It could have been incredible if it was longer. WAY more detail should have been given to Wedge's mission. They could have done another 100 pages on that alone in my oppinion. I really liked how some characters not mentioned much in NJO had some time, like Pash Cracken (I was kind of mad he died), Bel Iblis, and Alema Rar. I wonder where Tesar was though, it seemed like Alema Rar had taken his place has leader of 3 flight. And Jag didn't have his Chiss squadron either like he should have.
I really enjoyed everything with Nen Yim and Zonamo Sekot though. It was great. I was kind of pissed that she and Harrar died. Nom Anor really disappointed me in this book. I was really hoping he would stay on as the Prophet and help bring down Shimmra. It was great to have Corran back, he hasn't had a starring role since Edge of Conquest 2: Rebirth. He should be a Jedi Master, and its pretty cool that Tahiri wants to be his apprentice, even though she is already a Jedi Knight.

GAH!!! Don't get me started on Pash. To take a beloved EU character from the X-Wing novels and kill him OFF SCREEN in probably the crappiest death I have seen thus far in the NJO, that pissed me off more than anything. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif

10-05-2003, 02:41 PM
Hey he wasn't killed Off Screen, at least it was written out...i mean there have been deaths, such as Mon Mothma etc, who we just found out were dead, without info on how, at least with Pash we knew what happened..
Man did anyone else think it was very sad about Palleon and his son? I would like to know more about that ...
DarthSolo
10-05-2003, 04:02 PM
Pash Cracken could still be alive. They were jettisoning escape pods. but yeah hes probably dead, and iwish they woulda gone into a better detail of his death, as well as better detail of wedge's mission. The book was awesome IMO but yeah it coulda been better. they coulda made wedge's mission way more interesting. I was sad when Nen Yim and Harrar died, and i figured that NOm would never succeed as the Prophet so, alas, he has gone back to being Nom Anor. ugh.
Soontir Solo
10-05-2003, 05:13 PM
It said at the end that Pash was dead. A few days after the battle when Wedge was talking with everybody he said it.
That was really interesting about Pellaeon and his son though. His son was really brave. I wonder if Pellaeon is married, or maybe has a wife who was killed or whatever. Its pretty cool how the Imps are really involved and everything, planning joint missions are everything.
I wish we could have had a little bit more of Jacen and Luke in this novel as well, but having Corran made up for it.
CzulkangLah
10-05-2003, 05:31 PM
Yea, I was upset about pash, he was pretty cool. And they could have gone more into Wedge, and they also could have gone a bit into what happened when arg, I don't know how to put it. When those guys set out to tell Pellaeon and Bel, Iblis, they could have gone into a bit more detail.

deffinetly coulda been a longer book, and more detailed in wedge's battle scenes, but i still loved it. I fell in love with Nen Yim and was saddened by her death, but oh well.

where do you live? Are you not able to walk down to the store and buy them?
I agree with Soontir that the Vong probably are from Zenoma Sekot. maybe Sekot took a trip out of the SW galaxy and left a few peoploe behind or something. Maybe the vong will be so wiped clean that the peaceful ones(shamed ones) can go and reside on Zenoma Sekot. Just and Idea.
