I always thought that Vaders face was so pale because it had never been in sunlight for 25 years but some people said it's because of the injuries in the molten pit. What do yall think.

Darth Vader is bald and scarred because of injuries he sustained, but his skin is pale because it's been under the helmet for so long.

yep I must agree with everyone else and say that he is so pale because he didn't have any sun for like twenty five years

You have it all wrong; he ate way too many powdered donuts! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Those suckers can be exceedingly messy.

I agree, no sun. The Emperor was discribed as a rotting corpse in a robe, becuase the Dark side was eating him away, maybe something similar was happening to Vader. More than likely those guys just needed a little down time at the beach. I doubt you get much sun on a stardestroyer anyway. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I have to agree with everyone else here. Vader was so pale because he hadn't seen the sun for years. But of course, his injuries didn't make things better.

Well I have to add my agreement with everyone else. You don't see daylight for years and you should expect a very pale skin. He should have gone to see a tanning specialist really.

poss. spoiler!!!
i agree with everyone here as well,
but i wanted to throw out an idea - i was thinking that bc of his burns, his body had to grow new skin, which as you guys hav already said, didn't see any sun.

I think it was a combination of the lack of sun and the darkside eating away at him

Here's a comparison for you: You cut your finger, put a band-aid around it for a day or two and when you take the band-aid off, your skin is white where the band-aid was. Now imagine having a full body band-aid on for 25 years (except for those brief times when he takes the helmet off like in his chamber on the Star Destroyer in ESB) and see how white your skin looks.

I agree with everyone else. The dark side ages you rapidly! But I do believe that his face had a little room under there... just a little.

I agree with everybody else . . . no sun + Dark Side = paleness.
Ok . . . so now everybody's basically on the same page here and while we're on the topic of Vader out of his suit, I'll include this on this thread instead of starting a new one. . .
What about Vader's accent? Its clearly British in ROTJ, yet in TPM and AOTC, a Californian and a Canadian play his role, without a hint of an English accent. Whats up with that?

Just because Lucas casts an American kid for TPM, then a Canadian for AOTC and Episode III, to go along with a Brit at the conclusion of ROTJ...........none of that means anything. Here, I will make something up to justify it for you.
When Anakin was younger, he had a North American accent, but after he falls into the lava, or whatever, and sustains his injuries, his whole body, including his larynx, were damaged. Thus meaning that when he spoke thereafter, on his own without the aid of the suit, he had what could only be described as a bit of a British accent.
I hope this answer will suffice to satisfy your curiousity.

All the way Dbldwn. I believe that Darth Vader wanted to get away from Anakin so bad that he changed everything about him. The look, the lightsaber (color inside & outside),the side of the Force, and even the sound of his voice. "Anakin Skywalker is no more."

Wouldn't a full body band-aid choke him to death.. hey, that's what the breathing-thing is aboute! *Eureka*
No sun? He can really brak a leg.. litterally. Maybe he eats extra vitamins to avoid brittleness of the bones. :sigh:
Take care.
Maybe he got the English accent from hanging around with The Emperor all day. He's so pale because the sith secretly paint their faces. Thats why Sidious and Palpatine look slightly different, Maul had that whole red/black thingy going on, and Vader's got a pale face to imitate his master. Dooku has actually got purple skin but paints it to make it look more respectable.

Maybe Vader is really dehydrated. It has to be really hot in that suit. How does he ever get any water? How does he go to the bathroom? Does the going to the dark side shut down your bodily functions?

Don't worry about if Vader with or without the mask speaks with british, american, canadian or scottish accent!! after all, itīs suppossed that they speak in a language that not exist nowadays... Do you think that in a million years in the future human beings will speak in english, spanish or french, and most of all, with regional accents?? Think about the constant contact with aliens also.

You might consider this pic as proof of a Dark lords visit to the loo. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

Maybe so, but remember...........Star Wars takes place "A Long Time Ago". So a million years from now really means nothing in the Star Wars Universe.

My sister was raised in Chicago, but went to school in southern Missouri. When she came back up for summer, she'd have an accent. I think, if you really want to be critical and explain why Vader's voice became British sounding, you could attribute it to hanging around all those Imperials!

What a bunch of 'geeks' we are. We are so in need to discuss and/or argue over the past, present, and future of Star Wars, that we now compare and contrast Sebastian Shaw's somewhat British accent with the North American accents of Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen. I think we have now reached a new low and we are all in need of a vacation.

Of course theyīre not speaking english, is like in The Lord of the Rings, just see the ads at Coruscant in AOTC, at first, we can see they not use the latin, cyrilic or arab alphabets, neither chinese or japanese carachters, they a have a very different system of writting, it doesnīt matter if itīs in one million years from now or in Andromeda or other galaxy or in a parallel universe thousand years ago, as a fact, this would make impossible to people to speak english, spanish or even turkish!! and of course, how can they speak as British, Canadian or Argentinean if Great Britain, California, Canada or Argentina donīt exist or are regions of a forgotten planet in the mist of time and distance called Earth!!!!
I think this is a very Bizantyne discussion...

Yea why not . . . Ill go ahead and acknowledge the agrumentative ones in the room . . .
I am not "arguing" anything. But since someone would feel compelled to click on a topic labelled: "Darth Vaders Face", I figured something as trivial as his accent would accomdate their curiousity.
Dont blow your top, save it for the other, waaaay better debates goin on in this website.
But then again there are those who like to argue and others who like to see the stars on their "post-count" sheet . . .
