I thought it was very good, Terry Brooks is an excellent writer but htere was one flaw. The dialog differed hugely from the movie and there were some slow parts that hadn't been included in the movie that had been in the book.

Terry Brooks did set up the characters very well. New characters like Padmé and Qui-Gon were very well written about. It seemed to be told mainly from the perspective of Anakin and the Jedi, would have liked to have seen more of the perspectives of others like Amidala so on…

Does anyone else think that the PT novels are better than the OT novels?

Yes I think that the PT novels are better than the OT novels. The PT ones ie. TPM and AOTC go into more depth and are quite long, while the OT ones u can just read in a day or so. They're worth reading though, but i think new ones should be written for the Special Edition by writers like Terry Brooks or R.A. Salvatore, they'd 'fit in' better with the PT books

Actually, I prefer the OT. Though I enjoyed the novelizations of TPM and AOTC. TPM was kind of slow, but it was good. I read AOTC in three days--that's a record for me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I read the AOTC novel in one day. I took it to school, I was reading it under my desk in maths…naughty, naughty me… style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

The OT novelizations are a bit straight foward, but I think they still hold a bit more excitement and allure than the PT ones.

I thought Terry Brooks did an excellent job expanding on GL's story. Salvatore did a nice job, too, but I prefer Brooks' work.

Salvatore and Brooks weren't just the movie, they put in more, and they never called Jabba furry, i.e. ANH by George Lucas.

It was supposed to be that way then, but still, you'd think they could update them.

The novel of the original Star Wars movie was actually written by Alan Dean Foster, based on Lucas' script. It was ghostwritten under Lucas' name.

Yes, but it's official author, as stated by the original cover is GEORGE LUCAS.

Donald F. GLut was very straightforward as well, he wrote TESB. James Kahn who wrote ROTJ wrote a load of sh*t and Alan Dean Foster aka GL kind of hovered in between.

I should have answered this months (now years) ago, but I'll point this out now: yes, Lucas's name is on the book... that's how they got it to sell! They weren't going to put the actual author's name on the book if he had nothing to do with the actual film. It was ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster. HE wrote the book BASED on George Lucas's screenplay. Lucas didn't write the novel.

Good, so I can't blame GL for not liking the OT novels (well, at least ANH; I haven't even got around to reading the other two style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif ).

I actually enjoyed this book more than I enjoyed the movie at first - but after reading the book and understanding a little more of the backstory I then enjoyed the movie more.

I think that it is probably the best written of the movie novels.

edit - my goodness, in 2002 JTS was at 40% warning level! Extraordinary! ;p

Check that again; it's not me. Warning levels are shown on every post you've posted, and I've not been warned yet. And warning levels have only been around for a few months now, anyway... at least, they've only been in plain sight of us regular posters, I don't know if the mods had some feature like that before.

That's quite a glitch there - it's your name and avatar on the left hand side with the odd "warning" showing, but someone else's details in the body of the post. Weird. (and my apologies for casting aspersions on your character in that way. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif)

Anyway, another thing that I liked about this book was that it gave a little - not too much, but just enough, background history to let us understand the origins of the Sith.

A similar amount of background - not too much, but just some indication, of how Palpatine came to be a Sith Lord would be nice.

I enjoyed the TPM novelization.
Mind you, I like all the novels (OT and PT).

Loved that part!

Yea it was a fun read. I remember reading it on the way back from the Celebration I on the plane and I especially remembered those 2 pages of Sith back story. Cool stuff.
