voila! c'est oui!
I'm making a New Jedi Order website to companion another site that I'm making. If anyone wants to give suggestions or even help out with the planning and content, that would very very cool style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif
[EDIT: Title changed to reflect new direction taken by BlueMilk... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif]

Ooh, that sounds great. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif I'm actually planning to go back and read the entire NJO in sequence after Christmas (I missed most of the earlier novels while I was first getting into the EU catching up with Bantam era stuff and then jumped in at FH2), so I'll be very interested in what you're working on. What do you have in mind?

thanks for helping, that's hot! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif
I haven't anything at the moment. The first step is creating a working layout in visio and create a list of content of what would be on the site. Once the content has been decided, then we create a layout in order to set up a file hierarchy.
As for coding, it's just going to be xhtml with cascading style sheets probably working from templates in Macromedia Dreamweaver MX.

okay so first step is content. We need to decide what content will be on the site. any suggestions? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/joystick.gif

Craft, weaponary used???
Master Cephus
12-03-2004, 11:12 AM
of course you would need a chracter index, ships used, list of planets (and what happened to them), umm weapons used...
What would really be helpful is looking at Nathan Butler's timeline. He has an appendix that includes a lot of this stuff. You could start from there (if he would allow you to reference it) and get a lot of content...
Timeline link (http://www.starwarz.com/timeline/)
Oh yeah, you would need a faction chart (ala GA, YV, Imps, Hapens, blah blah blah)...
bluemilk
12-03-2004, 04:17 PM
hmm the timeline site. I made that style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif it really needs to be redone but I like it's simplicity.
and yes great suggestions! huzzah. anymore.

The biggest thing for me would be a collection of the smaller NJO writings, I just read a Tales comic featuring a Kyle Katarn story, and Kyle was one of many characters that was ommitted by and large from the NJO storyline.
Master Cephus
12-04-2004, 12:33 PM
Well, Bluemilk,
You need to ask yourself about the size of the site you are trying to make.
What I mean is do you just want a site that does the overall NJO, or do you want details in there.
Like Leto said you could have details about short stories, fan fiction, and what not...
but that would take some more work...
Nathan Butler
12-04-2004, 04:06 PM
Gotta find that amusing.
Cephus: My timeline you pointed her to . . . she designed the website for it. Heh.
Leto: The Kyle story you pointed her to . . . I wrote it. She's well aware of it.
I dunno, I just found that all amusing somehow, but I'm pretty tired so...

^hehe style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/joystick.gif novels and comics
authors and specifics
character index
ships index
weapons index (what for?)
planets index
galaxy map of yong invasion and new rebellion reacquisition
faction chart perhaps organized by characters
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>You need to ask yourself about the size of the site you are trying to make
it's going to be a information site, not small but not so large that it would be a nightmare to update. I'm not going to nitpick the NJO down to every last detail but I want a comprehensive site that's useful but not overwhelming.
no fanfic. fanfic is J-U-N-K. but visual art would be a great addition.

Sounds good. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif Do you want to perhaps subdivide the character index by faction? I know (and I'm sure you know style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif) that the SWT-G has a complete listing on NJO-era Jedi... Also, with ships, do you intend to include everything, or just ships unique to the NJO series? (My vote would be everything mentioned in the series). And main classes, or also vessels referred to breifly in passing? Just major warships and starfighters of the Alliance, Yuuzhan Vong, Empire and Chiss, or also civilian/Peace Brigade/Smuggler ships?
And do you plan on including pictures and detailed information (like the TOS Databank or TUCWS), or just brief summaries (like the CUSWE)?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>no fanfic. fanfic is J-U-N-K.
Um...sorry? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Hey I new I recognized the name from somewhere.
That was great, keep them coming. In my opinion Kyle was poorly presented in the novels and really needs an advocate to make his NJO exploits known.

Well, at least do a YV weapons index. People aren't real familiar with those.
As for the map, an interactive one would be really cool. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif

not sure about the weapons index except, like you said, Vong weapons because I don't really need to explain blasters and lightsabers, they're pretty much covered.

Perhaps also anything peculiar to the NJO, including modifications such as stutterfire starfighter cannons and Anakin Solo's Lambent Crystal lightsaber...?

sorry but no. I'm not creating a technical manual for the NJO. My site is a general site to help people explore the novels -- like a companion book. I apologize if I wasn't clear about my intent for this site. I really do appreciate the help but at the same time I don't want this to become an overwhelming project. :hugs:

No worries. I'm sorry if I made my suggestion sound like an "NJO Technical Commentaries" project, that wasn't my intent, either. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif I was just thinking a short list with brief explanations, kind of like the CUSWE. Sorry. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
I think leaving weapons and tech out is fine for the type of site you have in mind. So would the databank be mainly a character listing? Are you thinking somewhat along the lines of TUCWS? And how detailed a timeline are you thinking of? Perhaps several timeline chronicling different types of events?
And I'll be reading the whole NJO in sequence this spring, so I'm available to take notes. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

NJO SIte sounds like a good idea. I would pobably be looking for major Vong related data. Like the history of Zenoma Sekot. Unless that's too much. I don't know. never mind.

There should be some coverage of that bigsllim but not to deep, just enough to show the beginings of Republic involvement with the planet, it's disappearance, and it's rediscovery by Skywalker and the Jedi along with the revalations of Sekots origins.
Gotta say Blue, this has the potential to be a great site. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happydance.gif
Lotsa luck, and let me know if I can help gather information for you, I'd be more then happy to lend a hand. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

I've decided to make a change to this website idea. Good news and Bad news. well...actually it's all good news! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
Firstly, I've decided that it's not just going to cover NJO but all the Star Wars books (sans comics cause I don't have time to read the comics and there's just too damn many! but I will reference them).
Secondly, it's going to be more comprehensive then I first outlined.
Thirdly (is that a word?), it's going to be a companion site to my other Star Wars project, the Star Wars ******** style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
Lastly, I'm starting all this in 2 weeks! yay! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

well it won't be NJO specific but that will still be part of the site I'll be working on in the new year. I hope I can bring a fresh perspective to the SW universe.

not a lack of ambition-- I don't own a computer anymore :( But in December I'll be getting my own MacBook Pro so I'll finally be able to get on with it. It's actually going to be done in 2 parts; a blog and website with the blog coming first leading into the website. It will of course be focused on the art of star wars which includes the books and comics among other things.

12-08-2006, 08:51 PM
That sounds great and maybe your site can rekindle my interest for SW beyond the movies, no pressure of course :P
The comics are the one form of SW literature that I know little of, so i'll be looking forward to that.

it'll be different all right...I had an a-ha moment walking home from work to camp today and I think my website will be...unique. :)

The quote below is what I posted in the Star Wars Fanworks audio forum. I have created the blog (http://teofstarwars.blogspot.com) which will start on Thursday, January 9, 2007. The blog is called sabi and the Te of Star Wars. The next phase will be to start the EU/non-fiction Star Wars website which I believe will be February 2007
I've decided that the podcast/radio show will be called The Te of Star Wars. I've also created a blog that will be complimented by the podcast. The goal is to have a website/blog/podcast.
The blog will chronicle the process of building the website and yes, the information will be Star Wars related as well. I hope to learn to be a better web designer and expand on the new design skills I've been learning. You can listen to the ChronoRadio episode I did with nathan regarding fan site/niche sites to get an idea.
Once the blog has progressed then I will be working on the website. The website will probably come last since it will be the most intensive information wise.
The podcasts should start around May. I do work in an oil field in northern Alberta so my time to work on podcasting can only be done when I have the time; mostly on the 8 days per month that I'm home in Cold Lake. I will work on them up at camp since I have my MacBook Pro with me 24/7 but I have sketchy access to the internet.
I know for sure that this will be a very unique take on Star Wars fandom. It won't be like any other fan sites out there; I guarantee it.
