Quick question:

What the hell was Obi-Wan talking about when he told Arfour to send the message to Courscant "care of the old folk's home?" Is that just typical space lingo for Jedi or was he making a funny?

I think he was making a joke, referring to the Jedi Council, or something. Maybe it was a code name for the Jedi Council.

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to see other's opinions. Thanks.

Obi Wan says R4 scramble code (???) to Coruscant care of the old folks home.
It a secure line for the jedi as to not be traced. Plus it is a poke at yoda I think.

i realy have no idea...

my sister asked me if it's to a place where all the old people live... ???

I think it's the council, maybe OB1 was poking fun at them... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sly.gif

Well, an old folks home IS a place where old people live... so three points to ur sister... lol...

But in this case, I think Obi was referring to the Jedi Temple in code, to ensure that no-one would intercept the message.

Either that, or he was referring to a relay station between the planet and Coruscant- by identifying a particular relay station, he would know how far the message would travel, and how likely it would be that the message be intercepted along its route.

Most likely, it was just a code name he used for the Jedi Temple (He's still fairly young compared to his peers- He's only 30-odd in clones)

I'm with Siamese Sith on this one. This is what I thought too when I first heard it.

You guys should really read up on prequel news - unless you were spoiler free before the film came out.

The 'Old Folks Home' is the code for the Jedi Temple, and was also used in Jedi Starfighter by Adi Gallia.

Read this report from April 5th: http://www.JediNet.com/news/Story.asp?s=li...9,20020405,2893 (http://www.JediNet.com/news/Story.asp?s=link&init=active&back=archive&fldr=Prequels&month=April&year=2002&id=93759,20020405,2893)

Mind you that Kenobi is 'Guiding light' in the shooting script, that has been changed obviously.

The line was actually written a bit weird (in the screenplay in The Art of Star Wars: Episode II, anyway.

It reads:

Obi-Wan: Arfour, relay this, "scramble code five," to Coruscant: care of "the old folks home."

The way it is written, it seems kind of broken up, if you get my drift.. it looks kinda like it should go "scramble code five, the old folks home".

I don't really think, given the situation, Master Obi-Wan would be poking fun at anyone.

Yes its a joke towards his elders but he also wants a secure channel.

It seems like a running joke. Probably made up by the council.

I still think he was poking fun at Yoda.

I have a great idea. Obi-want was doing this, but this may be a result of Darth Maul. Remember he was able to trace the Jedi back to Tatooine (maybe through the transmission from Naboo to the Queen). Since they know another Sith is out there, they need their communications secure.

You know, in matters of Obi-wan I always like to comment.
I say he was poking fun... he does have a dry sence of humor, and seeing his close relaiton with Mace and Yoda I'd say it was a teasing remark. Common, they aren't ALL they dry and serious! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Yeah I think Obi-Wan was just making fun of Yoda and the rest of the Jedi Council.

Lucas does throw some humor in there every once in a while.

I am sure he will find a way in Ep. III despite its dark undertones.

Yea AOTC was quite dark, so was TESB, but GL found some way to be humorous.

Yes, it was a joke, Obi being lighthearted.
