Hey guys. For the last premiere (AOTC) my buddy Siamese_Sith and I waited in line together. I have to give credit to Siamese. He got the tickets for the best theater in Manhattan (The Ziegfield) and he used his Jedi Mind Powers on me, to get me to take the day off from work. We then waited in line for 5 hours, and consequently got the best seats in the theater as well.

There were others before us, actually. They saw the movie at MIDNIGHT (technically the next day) the night before. The line went clear around the block, and we right in front. Very cool.

As we waited, we realized why some other more diehard fans were not here earlier: they were busily wrapping themselves in tin foil, and donning their brown Jedi robes all that morning.

So, I have two things for your perusal.
One, this clip of 'Triumph the Insult Comic Dog' talking to Star Wars fans waiting in line. Please watch it if you have a sense of humor. It's probably the funniest treatment of SW fans I've ever seen. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Triumph The Insult Comic Dog vs. Star Wars Fans (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/tv/nerds.html)

Second, how many of us dress up? And I don't mean putting on a Star Wars T-shirt. I mean wrapping yourself in tin foil, and prancing around with a Darth Maul lightsaber. Please realize I'm not putting anyone down - I love this sort of street theater. I'm just curious how many of us are rabid enough about Star Wars to do that? And if you don't dress up... why don't you?

Yeah I love Triumph...the geeks never had a chance. I love Star Wars and Trek and LOTR and all that stuff but I don't think I'd ever dress up, especially for a movie. Not that theres anything wrong with that, I personally don't get into it THAT much. I do make it a point to go to the midnight shows though...I just love the atmosphere.

I don't dress up for the movies. I might wear a t-shirt, but that's it. I just like to go and look at the freaks though. Some have great costumes and others just plain suck. But it's all in good fun.

I don't dress up for the movies, I don't see anything wrong with that but it seems rather uncomfortable to enjoy a film when you're wearing a costume.

I love the part where Triumph asks someone dressed up as Darth Vader, which button on his armor calls his parents to come pick him up. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I would never dress up. I made it a point NOT to wear any Star Wars-related clothes when I went to see the movies.

Yeah that was hilarious when the news people wanted to get an interview w/ that person dressed up as Bobba Fett! People if your gonna wear a costume at least shell out the dough for a good looking one! I felt so bad....actually I didn't, this poor sap was the laughing stock of all the reporters.
You might have noticed us we were constantly bothered by the NBC and FOX reporters....So uhhh like what time did you get here???? SHUT YO F"N MOUTH YOU TOOL!
I did enjoy the occasional jeer from a passing car such as "GET A JOB YOU LAZY *******S!" or the bewildered look from the passing suits.
Hey special K we're bring a camera in 05!

ps Mad props to the brother dressed as Mace Windu!!

Yeah, some people looked like they put a lot of effort into molding the tin foil. It helps if you don't have any muscle tone whatsoever. :look:

But I forgot that there were some people who really looked like the people in the movies. The Mace Windu lookalike was a kick. And yes, we need to bring a camera next time, to immortalize our embarrassment.

Did you watch the clip?

Also, what's with these people CAMPING OUT at the theater? We called Move-Fone and got tickets easily! *cackle* What the hell!? Why sleep on cold concrete for days when you can make a phone call? Eh, it's all fun and games until someone pokes their eye out.

Whatever ,people who dress up are no more geeky than the rest of us. And when you camp out in line to get tickets, it's fun and you get to spend time with other fans. Buying online or on the phone is pure laziness and missing out on the fun. Although, I only did it for TPM, for AOTC I was able to walk up and buy my tickets right away with no line.

Actually, Jedi Doh, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they are a 'little' bit geekier than people who DON'T dress up. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/alien.gif There's nothing wrong with being a little geeky once in a while. I'm not anti-Geek.

I just don't know how to relate to the most hardcore of the fans. I remember getting caught up in a discussion of whether the Enterprise could destroy a Star Destroyer in a space battle. :whatsthat: ...

God bless ya son! You finally used your anger in a positive way...you made me laugh, unlike some amusement park ride here that only makes me cringe.

It's truly pathetic to use kitchen supplies to make a costume....especially a half assed one! NYC Boba Fett was sportin Tim's and Army fatigue! CRIKEY!

Well... maybe they just have more courage than you or I. I don't think it's pathetic, I just think it's funny. If people stopped dressing up, and being uber-geeks - it just wouldn't be the same. It'd be like a Woody Allen movie. It adds to the experience - but its not for me!

I will admit that some people are just geeks for the sake of geeks. A conversation like that (SD vs. 1701) is just lack of life. (no offense to you for getting caught up).

In line for TPM I got into a match with a guy who said that GL originally intended SW to be a 15 part saga. I finally had to go home and get the proof that 9 was the original number and he STILL refused to accept it.

I guess you're right about people who dress up are a little geekier, but we have GA 501st Batallion here. They are a bunch of guys with VERY authentic costumes. I talked to a few of them, and they are actually levelheaded guys and gals with real jobs, not just sit on the computer and debate over which ST captain was better, Kirk or Picard, or play video games all day and mooch off their folks cause of their lack of social skills.

Well, I didn't exactly get 'caught up' in it. More like I was an innocent bystander, with nothing to contribute. What's '1701' by the way?

Oh! Right... the numbers on the Enterprise.

Dude please don't take this the wrong way, but are you gonna blow a load when you see Vader in III? If you're not sure tell me where you plan on seeing it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Just playin' but you gotta be the most diehard Vader fan here.

For Krogenar: 1701 was just a short for Enterprise (NCC-1701)
