Looks like a scan from a printed insert for the action figures from episode III. A total of 58 figures mentioned. The big news is a printed confirmation of "Tarkin" character action figure. I'm not sure if there has been confirmation that he'd be in the film or not.

I'd say that would seal it for sure. Those tarkin test pictures from way back were real though so there's some kind of Tarkin in this film.

Who's Tado?
Master Magnus

Tado is a padawan played by George Lucas's son Jett.

He is Padme's alternitive-lifestyle having flower maiden! He is in charge of hair, make-up, wardrobe, decor, and lamas coach, in Anakin's absence. He was hired by Anakin because Ani is insecure.

Is anyone here planning on attending "Midnight Madness" sales for the major release of the episode III toys in April? I went for the episode II release and I really enjoyed it. It's one of the only times you can actually find and purchase everything you want all at once. Went to TRU for TPM and it was utter chaos and insanity. It became *not fun* for a picky carded collector like myself. Too many grabby little grubby paws.
Learned my lesson and hit Walmart at midnight for AOTC and still found a mob but everyone was much more reserved and orderly.
This year I think my plan is to hit Walmart at about 4AM.
I'm getting too old for this kind of thing....

A new Darth Vader action figure has been unveiled on the Official Site. What's cool is that James Earl Jones has recorded new phrases for the action figure. Read more at:
http://www.starwars.com/collecting/news/ha...ws20050121.html (http://www.starwars.com/collecting/news/hasbro/news20050121.html)
And it's perhaps a subtle confimation that JEJ will provide the voice for Vader in ROTS style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif?
T-bone
01-22-2005, 09:46 AM
I don't know how you could think he wouldn't do the voice. In fact, I'd say the fact that they got him in there to do this means he's already recorded his parts and they added these lines in there while they had him in the studio.

they do that on all Lego boxes...they make an 'alternative' toy from the bits in the box...but never provide instructions for how to make these 'alternatives'....its a transformation IF you can work out how to build it

No. Legos tend to have alternate construction options on the back of their boxes. Probably to promote imagination rather then to just build what the instruction says and then never play with it again. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Dang I was hoping they'd show more of the larger vehicles we haven't got a look at yet. oh well. There should plenty of good pics come toyfair next month.
Btw, I ran over to target this afternoon on my lunch hour, and much to my astonishment they had a boat load of the new preview figures up on the pegs. I got one of each. Unfortunately still no sign of Anakins starfighter or the wookie soaker, but I'm sure they'll be hitting shelves soon.

The 12" Palps has no hood on at all. That sinister pic of him is already classic.
Too much cool stuff. Is it just me or does the red design on the clonetroopers chest trigger some subliminal image of a COBRA solider?
I hope those boxed 2-packs of Anakin vs Dooku are normal figures and not some gimmicky "force battler" or leg-kick action whatevers. Anybody know?

Personally I couldn't be happier with the way things look. The packaging art really gets me excited for this stuff, similar to the way I felt when I walked in a toy store during the ROTJ era. I seriously think the packaging art will grab a kids attention, and perhaps the star wars sales will be higher due to children buying this stuff.

In fact I always check a few figures out for comparison, in order to make sure I get the best paint job available.

Here's some toy images from TheJawa.com (http://www.thejawa.com/nuke/) (if they've been posted previously, I apologize in advance).
Grievous and Ben are part of the Force Battlers line. The Grievous figure has noticably splitting arms, which is pretty cool. The Yoda figure is definitely different from the one on GalacticHunter.com (although both figures have pretty much the same old "Yoda as the invincible lightsaber master" concept we've seen before). Of note with this Yoda figure is the "Firing Cannon" which looks to be of Wookiee design.

Does anyone know what scale the AMT-Ertl / Revell Germany kits of the new Jedi Starfighter and the ARC-170 are going to be? (I'm hoping against hope they'll both be 1:72, but given how tiny the Jedi Starfighter is, I wouldn't bet on it being smaller than 1:48. I just hope they're both the same scale... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif) For that matter, has it been confirmed that AMT and Revell Germany will be using the same toolings?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>The driver seems to be... unprotected.
My guess is that the AT-RT is a bit like a speeder bike in function, and they chose a walker for the mission either for closed-in environments (urban, jungle, etc.) where a speeder bike would be impractical or because it could carry heavier weapons. Or both.
Or maybe I'm just giving it too much thought... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

CNN posted an interesting article about the new Ep. 3 toyline and how Hasbro is banking on it saving them fiscally next year (click on the link for the full article, but I trimmed it down to the important SW-related stuff below):
Star Wars III: A gamble for Hasbro (http://money.cnn.com/2005/02/07/news/midcaps/hasbro_results/index.htm?cnn=yes)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Hasbro has an exclusive license to make and sell Star Wars toys and games until 2018. But it needs to see the payoff from that deal in 2005, when the last scheduled installment of the movie franchise is set to be released.
The Pawtucket, R.I.-based No. 2 toy manufacturer, after Mattel Inc. (Research), posted disappointing fourth-quarter profit and revenue results Monday. It blamed the shortfall on softness in its domestic market, and specifically on an unexpected decline in sales in its boys division -- something it hopes the new Star Wars film will overcome.
...
Enter "Revenge of the Sith," set for release May 19. Hasbro is gearing up to release a slew of new boys' products tied to the film.

Given the positive performance of its "Star Wars" merchandise last year, Hasbro's chief financial officer David Hargreaves told analysts that he expects the toys and games linked to the epic to "be a profitable line for us this year."
Hasbro negotiated the 10-year license extension in 2003. "We have an extra ten years to exploit this property," said Hargreaves. "The Star Wars property is a high gross margin area. It generally requires less advertising because its the movie that drives interest in the merchandise."
At least one industry analyst, however, pegs the "Star Wars" property as more of a gamble for Hasbro.
"No doubt 'Star Wars' is an important property for Hasbro but the history of that license hasn't been overall profitable for them," said Timothy Conder, analyst with A.G. Edwards. The company struggled with sales of Star Wars toys in 1999 after Hasbro originally paid about $590 million for the exclusive worldwide rights.
"If you look at the 'Harry Potter' merchandise sales, they tended to go down as each sequel was released," said Conder. "Hasbro was somewhat non-committal when we asked them what they expected the trends this year to be with the Star Wars-related products."
Galactic Hunter.com posts this juicy spoiler
Vader Medical Droid
Vader's tripedal Medical Droid (#37, Collection 2) aka the Chopper Droid is tasked with putting the Sith Lord back together after the climactic battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Here is the description from the cardback:
Galactic Chopper droids specialize in prosthetic engineering and biomechanics. The tripedal design increases mobility, and modular appendages allow for different limbs to be attached depending on the need.

First up, as with regards that Yoda on the Can-Cell figure - OMFG! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif It's gonna take me until the film's release to decide whether I like that one or not! Giant, ride-able dragonflies... mmm!
Anyway, I was gonna post this on the Ep3 pics page, but as it's a picture of a CUP, I thought maybe here would be best! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
I post it because a) I'd never seen it before and maybe you haven't too, and b) It has a picture (albeit a sillhouette) of General Grevious weilding FOUR lightsabers. I've never seen this before. Something that we'll see in the film - anyone know? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif
Also, this means that concievably, Grevious "could" wield six sabers at one time if he used his feet [this would involve him lying on his back, so realistically we're looking at five!]

About the jetpack trooper...It was drawn in Art of the Revenge, and now in the little miniatures. There is supposedly a deluxe figure of a jetpack trooper, and in one of the pictures of the leaked lego sets, the one with MAce Windu and the next tank, you can clearly see a jetpack trooper with a similar curvy jetpack, so im pretty sure they will be in the movie.

Rranzok: Dude, I totally knew Grevious had four arms style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif , but to my knowledge (and by all means anyone help me out here), this is the first time a piece of merchandise directly linked to the film pictures him holding four sabers. As far as I am aware, any pictures of the actual Grevious (i.e. from the film itself) neither have him in "four arm mode," nor wielding even a single lightsaber. The clone wars cartoons, though they showed him weilding multiple sabers, only had him use [I think] two at any one time - possibly three with his feet. [The comics I don't know about]
The point of posting the picture of the cup was that I think it's a new piece of merchandise available at StarWarsShop, and whereas the Cartoon series [again, only to my knowledge] isn't canon to the film itself, sometimes movie-related merchandise can be an indicator of what we might see in the actual movie.
So, to sum up (phew!), although it's well known that Grevious has four arms, I don't personally know if he ever uses four sabers simultaniously within the film, a la the picture on the cup! Oh, and I think the pose is really cool too - makes for a good-lookin' sillhouette! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

It's one of these things that looks cool as a toy and SOUNDS good on paper, but has the potential to be a trainwreck on film.
I feel similarly about Wookkies flying in pedal=propelled copters. You KNOW you want to see it, but at the same time you don't want it to be something laughable that could demean the films. I think they should can-cell that shot. And wookies flying in pedal propelled helecopters? Are they on Gilligan's Island? Do we know this to be true? (I'm not bithing, really. It just seems odd).

Not sure if someone has commented on this, but I was at a Target store here in Maryland and they had all of the preview figures from Ep. III. The OS said that they aren't even shipping until the 18th. I got Greivous.

Cool new roleplaying toys. Looks like they're re-releasing the old stormtrooper blaster, and a new blaster for the General.

As a update to my post yesterday (2/14/05) I snagged Anakin's Jedi Intercepter (read 2/14/05 T-Blog to understand the name change) at my local Toys R Us for $19.99. I can't wait to get a fleet of these suckers and some buzz droids to infest them with. Watch out Obi-Wan!
