It's just as easy to take awful photos with film as it is with digital... they're just different tools to the same end -- personally I'd take a digital SLR with a nice array of lens choices + photoshop over film, simply because you don't have the generational loss associated with digitizing negatives... sure you can do cool things like cross-processing, etc with film, but you can do a lot of cool things with Photoshop as well.

It's also easier to experiment with digital... you can try a new technique or whatever and instantly see the results, and then take things into Photoshop later and have some real fun with them.

I just got the new Canon S2-IS a couple of months ago (5.1 effective mpx, 12x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom). I've been thrilled with it so far! It allows you to configure it to be as manual or as automatic as you like. Plus, you can record movies at a whopping 640x480@30 fps! (better have a gig of memory before you try this, though style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif ) Let me know what you think of the Pentax if you pick it up!

I may just make a video of it and post it. I've been learning for a month now and it is a blast. I love peoples reactions. Some of this stuff takes few times to get them down and some a few days in front of a mirror. But such fun it is.

Just to jump to Kommandant Felix's defense here, I really do think he was being sarcastic in a ha-ha funny way.
Look at it this way - if someone on the street you did not know came up and started ranting about how something was "all theirs!", you'd be like - hey, calm down! And no one around you would be like "WTF?" They'd be like, "yeah, calm down!"
The net is like that - it's easy to read one thing wrong and get all out of wack. Maybe he should have used a smiley. But he didn't. As mods (yes, I am pointing fingers here), you really have to have seen this before.
Or, then again, maybe Das Kommandant is really a internet bully. But I doubt it.
The moral of this? It's something about me - and on topic. I have a very level head.

I killed someone. It all started one rainy night in September, 2001.
I found out that my wife had cheated on me with some guy earlier that week, so there I was, sitting in my car outside his house. I had been drinking, which was a bad idea, and was nervously fingering the tire iron which I had gotten out of the trunk. I had to make my decision.
I got out of the car and stood in the rain for about five minutes. The water pelting my body and soaking my clothes was purifying. It washed away all of my doubts and worries about the ramifications of the action I was about to take.
I slowly made my way up the hill toward his house, my feet treading wetly on the moistened soil. I stepped onto the patio and stopped, twisting the wet hunk of iron in my hand, feeling the deathly chill of it in my fingers. Could I really do it?
This man had taken my world from me. He violated everything I held dear, and all that was left inside me was a gaping hole, an emptiness that could never be filled. He had destroyed me. I tightened my grip on the slippery, cold metal of the instrument in my palm.
An instrument that could deal death with no remorse, no feeling, no regret. Could I become something as cold, hard and unfeeling? Could I become a tool of vengeance, as dark and souless as what was there in my hand? I was about to find out.
He was sitting with his back to me, watching TV. The object of my hatred was just sitting there, slouched in his sofa, knowing nothing of the doom that stood behind him, just outside the glass door. I watched him through the water that was streaking down the glass for at least an hour, seeing him sitting there, knowing that he had taken my love's body and mind. Taken my sanity. And he loved it.
He laughed. Something funny on TV, maybe? Possibly, but to me, there in that moment, my mind shattered beyond all recognition, he was laughing at me and my pain. There was no turning back. I raised the tire iron slowly above my head, and with one hard stroke, shattered the glass door.
I broke away the remaining glass through with my body, tearing my black vinyl raincoat. He whirled at the horrible crashing behind him and his jaw went slack. Wind and rain blew in behind me, and he saw me for what I was then.
I was no longer human. Rage pain, hatred, grief, and other deeper darker emotions had transformed me into a menacing, arhcangel of vengeance. I was hate and revenge personified.
I said nothing, simply glared at him, my eyes burning. He knew why I was there and he opened his mouth to call out, scream, shout for help, but he couldn't find the words. He lunged for the telephone, but with a swift stroke I broke his arm with the piece of steel in my hand. He fell to the floor and whimpered like a hurt puppy. In that moment I could have pittied him. But I didn't.
I brought the terrible instrument down on him, over and over, until his whimpering ceased, and he was quiet. He lay there dead, on the white carpet now soaked red. I lifted him up and carried his lifeless form out to my car, where the shower curtain that I had torn down from my bathroom in rage earlier that day waited.
I wrapped his body in the clear vinyl, and dropped it without respect into the trunk. I looked at his eyes staring at me through the translucent material. Soulless, lifeless eyes. Much like mine must have looked then, in that moment. I slammed the trunk down to break his stare. I knew what I had to do next.
I drove slowly out through the rain to the tar pits. It was there that great beasts of millions of years past had found their doom. Nothing that went into that blackness ever emerged again. Just how I could never return from the blackness that overtaken me. I turned off the engine and got out of the car, leaving it in neutral.
I pushed the car as hard as I could until it began to roll by itself down the hill, slowly at first, but then gaining speed exponentially. The windshield shattered and metal crunched as it hit the tar. There was no splash, only an awful slurping sound. I stood at the top of the hill and smiled grimly as the car sank deeper, and with a final, horrible sucking noise, it was gone.
Again, I stood in the rain. I looked down at the great black pits. As black as my soul. The car and it's wretched final occupant were consumed by the deep thick unforgiven tar, as my hatred had consumed me. I was lost in a great darkness, darker and heavier than the great black pits below me, darker than the night around me. I closed my eyes and let the rain fall on me, soaking me to the bone, cleansing me of all guilt, washing away any shred of remorse. I had done it.
The police never found who had broken into his house, they never thought to look in the tar pits for his body, and they never learned my awful secret. No one ever knew until now.
Betcha didn't know that about me, huh?

I will be 40 and have never had my license. I had my permit until I was 23, but I got sick of having to drive beligerant drunks home from the bar and developed a fear of driving.

In writing my short stories for English, I've discovered an interesting trait I have. Quite a few of my stories are written in the second-person. Rather facinating as it started with me enjoying Chuck Palahaniuk's use of it in Diary. I then used it to make the dream sequences my emo lesbian had stand out from the regular first-person narrative of the non-dream portions of said story. It has snowballed into me writing entire short stories in that class in second-person. Could possibly be a reason why my teacher holds me in much higher regard than my philistine opposition.
