I have Automatonophobia (seriously) which is the fear of anything that falsely represents sentient beings. Like... say dummies, or claymation. I don't freak out like scream or anything, but it haunts me for days afterward. For some reason the muppets are okay, but anything else has scared me since I was little.

Does CGI Animation scare you?

My extreme fears are heights and scraping sounds. I kid you not. I freeze up when I'm around five feet off the ground. Whenever someone scrapes something with metal or plastic, I put my hand over my ears and freeze up too. Just yesterday someone was gathering dust on cement with a dustpan (we didn't have a broom), and the scraping sound made me shutter and freeze up in such a fashion that everyone asked if I was okay.

I have a smallpox scar on the back of my left shoulder, and I'm still afraid of the dark. (Okay, I'm still afraid of the nasty little things that might be IN the dark.) But It makes for great writing inspiration.

Whitesaber, a suggestion for making your main character's name...find yourself a name book and look up all those crazy uncommon names that actually do have a meaning. I do it all the time so that way people who are curious enough to look up my character's names will see how the name is fitting to the character.

In fact, provided I can get my future wife's (whom I haven't met yet) permission, I'm going to name my first born son Phalyn Coyle. Phalyn is Irish Galic for "Wolf" and Coyle is Irish Galic for "One who Follows the battle." So once my son gets old enough to wonder why I named him what I did he can look it up and draw his own conclusions or ask me about it.

I'm still working on a first born daughter's name though. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

Um... no.

Mostly animatronic people, claymation, wax sculptures, claymation, and generic dummies.

Here's an example:
I was working on doing some texture jobs at this church, and in one of the rooms, they had this puppet just sitting there. It didn't even look like a human, it had huge eyes, and red skin. It looked just like a generic Muppet. But I got this weird feeling all over me. When I walked away, I was really nervous and watched my back half of the time.

I tried not to show it, but I didn't even want to be in the same area as it, much less the same room. I tried to ignore it, (I'm 16 for God's sake! I can't be afraid of puppets!) but I kept looking at it every 5 seconds. I felt like it was going to get up and strangle me or something.

Both my front teeth are false. One is a crown the other is on a retainer of sorts. I knocked them out doing a reverse dunk when I was 15. I made the mistake of looking up at the hoop while rising and knocked them into the bottom of the rim. Hurt like hell.

Years ago there was a fella named Mark who worshipped at the temple I used to attend. There is a worship band which played songs to God and Jesus and whomever wanted joined in a large circle of people dancing at the front during the service. Mark loved to dance but his arthritus cause his knees to make loud popping sounds which literally could be heard a few dozen feet away. One Friday night I was next to the pianist (whom I was friendly with and whom had written music for some of my songs) and Mark was in the circle dancing, making his usual rythem of popping sounds, and I said in the pianist's microphone, "Get that man some WD-40!" style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

My problem is deciding which character to go with. I LOVE Inuyasha of course, but since part of the reason I love the anime so much is the obvious but unspoken love he and Kagome have for one another. If I went with an Inuyasha one, I would want it to be one of him and Kagome. But for a first tat, I was thinking small.

Moo suggested Kirara, which I think would be perfect, especially in her untransformed, cute demon fire cat state. LOL or thinking about how cute he looks, I should get Ryoga from Ranma in his lil piggy form.

But really Inuyasha and Kagome are my fave characters, what do I do?!!!!!!!

I know, I know I should go with Kirara style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

well I love tattoos when done beautifully and when they make a cohesive 'story' of sorts.

Just a word of caution, I got a tattoo when I was 18 that is a cartoon character. 9 years later I wish I hadn't had it done because well it's just kinda stands out with no real purpose. So I say it's great to have tattoos but look into the future when deciding what they'll be. If 10 years from now your passion for InuYasha or anime cools off you'll be stuck with it, unless you want to pay to get it removed.

Plus if you decide to get an InuYasha tattoo it could look strange if you start mixing designs for other tattoos y'see? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif

This is true, that's why I've spent such a lot of time debating it.

Inuyasha and Kagome are actual human like characters. But Kirara is a firecat. Think cute yellow kitten with stripes, cute demon eyes, a diamond shape on her forehead, and she has three tales.

I think she'd be a good one to go with, because if my interest in Inuyasha wanes as you say, then its not really too obvious she's a character from an anime.

As for mixing, if I have more than one, then I'd be sticking with the Inuyasha theme, for a second, I'd just get my other choice done, that I didn't go with before, and then I think I'd leave it at that.

They'd be going on the small of my back and between my shoulder blades. Yeah I know, for a first one, shouldn't really be going for my back, but I think thats where I'd be most comfy with them.

I may not even bother with an Inuyasha one at all, well an anime Inuyasha one that is. LOL I should just get Osuwari in Kanji and it will be my own private in joke.

Errr, hi.
Das Funked, I love your use of Wilfred Owen's poetry. "Futility" is my favourite.
I'm a newbie of sorts so it's not hard to think of stuff you don't know about me. I used to be a glider pilot until I lost an argument with gravity and slammed into the deck at 70mph. Although I come from the land of Kit's flag, I'm living in England and the last three years have been traumatic (a long and boring story) and I am now picking through the debris to piece my life back together. As Bruce Lee said, "No help but self help". Many folks have been really kind to me, but self pity is a powerful narcotic and it's grip is hard to break free from. But, I'm working on it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

Glider pilot huh? Kewlness! Although that crash landing doesn't sound so kewl.

I used to live in England, I was born and raised in Brentwood in Essex.

But when I married Moocat (another poster here) who was born and raised in Michigan we decided to put our roots down in his home country. So now I'm a resident of the U.S.A.

Yes Wilfred Owen is a great poet. My fave poem for some reason has always been Byron's She Walks In Beauty. Ted Hughes' The Thought Fox, is a close second.

Hi Nerfer!
I'm currently in Oxfordshire but I'm from just outside Cardiff. Kewlness maximus is gliding...I was sad I had to give it up. But c'est la vie! It must be great in Michigan...I was frightened silly by the prospect of moving across offa's dyke. In comparison, not such a big move. But, I've moved to be with my blokey. He used to glide with me. His job has caused us to move a bit, but it's just the way it is. He's RAF and he goes all over the world.

Nerfy, thanks for the hug. I needed that!
Funny ole thing, my beloved RAFfy Taffy is also a lifeguard! He qualified through the RAF and worked on the base at their pool. He even had the Baywatch style uniform...I still think he looks better in his blue uniform. He has blond hair and blue eyes, really clear and bright so he looks fab in his uniform. He has done a helluva lot through work...he's a gliding instructor, a diving instructor (PADI and BSAC) and because he's an engineer he can also put up shelves. (AWOOGA! SEXIST COMMENT ALERT!) He trained in Australia to dive, Germany to glide before he met me, and he did a tour in Italy. I've never been anywhere so I guess I'm a little in awe. He's also been to Miami on a rugby tour. I wasn't aware that rugby was played in the States.....he really is a poster boy for his job! There are down sides to his job, though. Uprooted every four years can be a bummer, but the hardest thing to deal with for me was the Gulf. I'm not getting political here, chaps, it was just hard on us personally. I spent our first Christmas together in our new home, in a different country, alone which totally sucked. However....this Christmas I am looking forward to.

Your welcome Hobbit. It really does have to be tough to be separated from everyone you know and love and your partner too.

Back in England one of my buds friends was having a hard time. She had a 1 year old and was pregnant with her second kid. She was stuck in the barracks in Germany while her husband was off in the gulf.

So she was having a pretty hard time of it. Pregnant, alone, looking after one kid and worrying like hell about her hubby. Its not an easy life, but those that live it and make it thru will have one of the strongest marriages in the world. At least that's what I believe.

With me being English and Moo being American we had to deal with separations, and they are bloody murder. It gets harder and harder to say goodbye. I was a right mess the last time we had to be parted, I'm happy to say since then we haven't been parted like that since and hopefully never will be again.

Thanks Nerfer, I guess in comparison to your friend in Germany I have a much easier life. I'll stop whingeing. RAFfy Taffy's off on his travels at the end of the month again. Thing is, when I got together with him I knew what his job was and when I "signed on" I knew what I was getting into. His Gulf tour was bad enough without thinking about children. I hope your friend in Germany has got her hubby and is happy now.
I reckon Shakespeare was trippin' when he said "Parting is such sweet sorrow" because there ain't nothing sweet about it. I fell to pieces when he was in the Gulf. He sent me a video letter (this is sad but true and I've never told anyone this) and when I cam home at night I would put it on while I did the housework, did my work etc just to hear his voice in the backkground, as if he was there. Apparently I still reach out for him in the night to make sure he's there (so he tells me). I do know this, it doesn't get any easier, be it one night, one week or one month apart.
