Does anyone else watch this show?
I don't get to watch TV because of school, but I make sure to catch this show every week... This show has the framework to be the best show on TV (if it isn't already...)

I hadn't planned to watch it, but wound up catching the first episode while waiting for the premiere of CSI: NEW YORK. I liked it more than I expected to, and so far I've liked it enough to keep watching. But I'm skeptical--as I had been before the show even premiered--of its potential as an on-going series. Another show tried the same concept several seasons ago, and it didn't even last beyond the first season. Of course, LOST has already been picked up for a full first season, but it remains to be seen how long the show can keep it up, now matter how many twists and turns the storyline takes, before it starts getting boring and repetitive with keeping the show basically in one setting. And they'd better show what the "creature" in the jungle is by season's end, because I don't like being teased for very long.
Not my favorite show on TV right now, but since I've watched every episode so far, I'm liking it enough to give it a chance.

I think it is a great show!
I really can't wait to find out what is going on..

It is going to be an awesome season. I read the spoilers on it in this week's TV Guide mag. There are awesome guesses about why they are all on the island. I love the theory that they are all stuck in purgatory. And the other theory that all their lives have crossed paths before somehow. I could care less about the monster, that makes it too much like "Jurassic Park: Lost World."
And I absolutely love that everyone looks like normal people and not Hollywood actors.

Fortunately, the show has been in the top ten in the Nielsen ratings ever since it started. It's getting a full season. The funny irony is that the show after it is a reality show and the ratings for that are going down (The Bachelor).

Good episode tonight, until the end. Could have done without the SURVIVOR-like setup. The fact she spoke English was no shock to me. I expected it from the beginning to be a "surprise" later on. I hope Charlie dies by season's end, though. He's the only character I really don't like.

I must say, I've been really impressed by Matthew Fox. Though I never watched PARTY OF FIVE regularly, from what I did see, I remember it being a really sappy, overdramatic show, so I wasn't too sure when I heard Fox would be playing the "hero" on LOST. But I've been surprised at how convincing he is. Nice job.

I agree with Sabrina, anything is better than reality tv. Y'know what's sad? That good actors/actresses that used to carry their own shows are left to take scrap parts and guest appearances. I was at a hotel party last week and we had the tv on in the hotel. We were watching Blind Date and up pops this commercial about local singles waiting on this phone line. Well the girl who was saying that she was on the phones right now waiting to meet a guy in her area was Evangeline Lilly. It was great. It must've been shot before she got the role on Lost. Must have needed the money or something.

Interesting show last night.
The whole Boone imagining things really really weird...but if that is the case, I have to ask if in the first episode, was there really a Captain that got killed by the beast?
Also, anyone have any guesses as to what is in the Hatch that Locke and Boone found?
DblDwn

Does anyone think that there is a significant reason that, while Boone was talking to the cop in Sydney, that they showed Sawyer being escorted by a cop, kicking and complaining, behind him? Will that play into something later on or was Sawyer thrown in simply as an Easter Egg?
Kapit
01-13-2005, 05:14 PM
as to the hatch, i don't think it's from the plane that crashed (i hope that's kinda obvious), so my idea is that it's from whatever plane the french woman used to get to the island in the first place. what's under there, i have no idea, perhaps more live people from another time? maybe nothing
as to sawyer, his kicking and such in the police office, maybe he did something wrong in australia, and had to be deported? i don't remember if his story took place in australia or not

Y'all know that song that Charlie was supposed to sing the chorus to with his band? Well, it was playing in the background at a party Sydney was having in the 'Alias' episode that came on last week. How is THAT for an Easter Egg?
I'm finally caught up on 'Lost'. It's the best new show of the season, by far. With 46 different people on that island, they shouldn't run out of story ideas for a long time.

My wife and I both thought that she wasn't pregnant anymore when she came out at the end.
Master Cephus
01-20-2005, 10:41 AM
I don't think she was pregnant. I bet the people that kidnapped her only wanted her baby. Once she had the baby, either she escaped (which wouldn't seem likely), or they let her go.
Weird again how Walt was looking at the comic with the polar bear and then one appears again. His step father said that things happen when Walt is around and we all seen the bird in the flashback.
There are 2 weeks of probably reruns, then on Feb. 9 the episode "Outlaws" comes on that is a Sawyer-centric story, so I bet we find out why Sawyer was in the police station in Sydney...
Blizzard
01-20-2005, 10:45 AM
I couldn't tell, but my guess is she wasn't. And since she didn't want the baby I bet she won't be too upset about someone else having it.
I can't wait for Hurley's story.
Did it say next week was a rerun? Yeesh, again?!
Master Cephus
01-20-2005, 10:55 AM
I think she wants the baby, but she realizes that she is probably not the best person to raise the child...that is why the guy tricked her into going on the plane.
Blizzard
01-20-2005, 11:00 AM
She never wanted the baby, but the guy told her if she didn't raise it that it would be evil. If she tries to get it back, it's only because of what the man told her. Or if Charlie declares his love for her and wants the baby.
And it's cool how Walt can conjour up anything he sees. Someone needs to give him a book on ships.

My friend and I were talking about this show and he has a pretty wild idea, but it might make sense...
somehow the survivors have actually been transported to another planet...and the inhabitants of that planet were curious and ran experiments. So, they took this plane..."crashed" it. And now the inhabitants of that planet are running expriments on them..to see what they are capable of. And the only point of reference they had/have was books and that comic book so they thinks that it possible how their world would be in order to simulate it
i mean..how else would loc all the sudden be able to walk, if the whole thing wasnt real
and the "survivors" have just scratches on them after the crash that they all should have died from

The thing that's kinda stupid is that it's being hyped as just JJ Abrams' show. He's the co-creator. In fact, he hasn't written an episode of the show since the pilot. But I think the next episode, I think Claire is going to get with Sawyer and Jack is going to be jealous and it's going to start a fight or something...

Ohh did anyone read that Micheal Eisner didn't want to put Lost on the air, because him an a few of the guys who run things at Disney didn't think it was very good? Although it has also come out that Eisner thought that Finding Nemo was going to be a "wake up call" for the guys at Pixar. He didn't think it was good. Apparently he just doesn't know what the public wants.

It hurt everyone he loved--and that curse is tied to the island. Plus, Boone and Locke continue their work on the hatch.

I think we did find a few things out. I think Jin was ashamed of his roots (the way he said his father was dead which wasn't true) and sacrificed himself to be with Sun by doing nasty things for her father.
We also discovered that Walt and Locke really don't want to leave the island. Locke apparently has had a bad past. When Walt asked about Locke's dad, Locke said he wasn't cool. We also know from earlier that Locke was in foster care.
Did you see Hurley on the TV when the little girl was watching it?

yeah, my belief is that Hurly stole someone's lottery ticket and won and the person put a curse on his money....or something to that effect. Hurley ends up spending all of the money, except for enough to buy a round trip plane ticket to Australia...
But if you think about it, We knew Locke and Walt likes it at the island. We didn't know about Jin and his father, but that really doesn't matter in the story I don' think. But what I don't understand is after that scene with his father, he then turns Sun down? What the heck?
JediJaina
02-25-2005, 12:34 AM
He didn't know that she spoke English (if that's the scene I think you're referring to) and he thinks there's something between her and Michael.
If what I'm reading is correct, Hurley doesn't steal the ticket. The TV show that Hurley was on was not in Australia. Jin hadn't made it to Sydney by that time.

Don't you all think its too bad Boone's sister isn't really dead like he hallucinated awhile back. Fury Leaves Lost (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?category=0&id=30738)
David Fury, a key writer and co-executive producer of ABC's hit series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that he will not be returning for the just-announced second season, but will immediately begin working on two other series, The Inside and 24, and maybe develop a show on his own. The series' writers have wrapped the first season of the hit SF drama.
"I'm very proud of Lost and my contribution to the show, but for numerous personal reasons, I feel like it's time for me to move on to other things," said Fury, best known for being a writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "I spent seven years of my career in one place [working on Buffy and its spinoff series, Angel], and it's a lot of fun to work in different worlds. Lost was a lot of fun, and I have a great deal of gratitude for [series co-creators] J.J. [Abrams] and Damon [Lindelof]. I know the show will continue to be great, and I look forward to viewing it."
Fury wrote four scripts for Lost, including the fourth episode, "Walkabout," which centered on Terry O'Quinn's character, Locke, and contained a whopper plot twist. "I think my favorite will always be 'Walkabout,'" Fury said in an interview. "It helped set the tone for what the show could be outside of the pilot. It was also served so well by the performance of Terry O'Quinn and some great production values and direction."
Fury will reunite with his former Whedonverse colleagues at The Inside, a Fox drama co-created by Tim Minear (Angel, Wonderfalls) and Howard Gordon (Angel, 24). "I'll be starting this Monday [April 11]," Fury said. "I'm very excited about it. Tim and I have been anxious to work on something together, and this was a nice opportunity. I had wanted at the very least to write a script for him, but there was a lot of backstage goings-on with Tim and Howard, and they made it happen for Fox to bring me over. I'll be a full-time co-executive producer for the remaining six episodes left in [The Inside's] 13-episode order. Then, as soon as I'm done with that, I'll be going over to 24. I've been playing in the genre world for so long now, it will be interesting to go over there."
As for the long-term future, Fury revealed that he may head back to Abrams' camp again someday. "I've been talking with Bad Robot, J.J.'s company, about possibly developing a show. I would love to develop with J.J., and he would love to develop with me, so we are going to try and make that happen." Lost airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The Inside is slated to premiere in the fall.

De Ravin Delivers On Lost (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?category=0&id=30783)
Emilie de Ravin, who plays Claire on ABC's hit series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that she doesn't know whether her character's new baby will turn out to be good or evil. "I guess that's yet to be revealed, whether the baby is normal or not," de Ravin said in an interview. "It seems normal."
De Ravin's character gave birth on the April 6 episode of the show. To play Claire's new infant, "We've got twins we're working with," de Ravin said. "They're very cute and very tiny. I think it's definitely going to add a dynamic to the set, having a baby around."
Until the recent episode, "Do No Harm," the Australian actress had spent months walking around the Lost set in Hawaii sporting an ever-expanding pregnancy suit. Actually depicting the child's birth presented a whole other challenge, she said. "That was an interesting episode to shoot, not being a mother myself," she said. "Talking to my sisters, who both have children, and doing all the research I did about this labor that was obviously looming for Claire since day one, and really getting into it for the episode, was such a strange thing, because it's such a gritty, personal thing, giving birth. It's different for every woman in every situation. I'm really happy with it. It turned out really well."
It helped, de Ravin added, that an obstetrician was on set. "She was great, guiding along, helping, because we wanted to make it as realistic and natural as possible for TV," de Ravin said. "I think TV often skims over birth. They're usually not very realistic, and we were trying to go for as gritty as we could and as real as we could." Lost airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The Last episode was Brilliant. A highlight for all television shows this year.

Lost Finale Is Super-Sized (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?category=0&id=30810)
Javier Grillo-Marxuach, a writer and supervising producer on ABC's hit series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that the much-anticipated season finale will clock in at three hours and give fans everything they love about the show. "In terms of epic storytelling and shocking destiny, you ain't seen nothing yet!" Grillo-Marxuach said in an interview. "We were going to do a two-hour finale [over two weeks], and then ABC asked if we could do 90 minutes [the second week] so they could schedule it against American Idol. Carlton [Cuse] and Damon [Lindelof, who co-created the show with J.J. Abrams,] did an amazing job on the finale script, and their first draft came in a little long anyway. [ABC] looked at it and decided to do a two-hour. So 'Exodus Part 1' will air on May 18th, and the epic saga that is 'Exodus Part 2' will air May 25th. The final two hours is so full of incident and character and shocks and scares and drama, all the things that people love about Lost, that it would have been silly to cut things out. So we've got a 25-hour first season! We busted our butts on it, but it's not going to feel like it's been padded. We are very proud of it."
Grillo-Marxuach wrote five episodes in the freshman season and confirmed that he would return for the second season, which begins production in July. Reflecting on his efforts this year, he said, "'... In Translation,' which I wrote with Leonard Dick, is my favorite episode this season." The episode revealed the troubled backstory to Jin, played by Daniel Dae Kim. "It was such a great character piece for Jin. Daniel's performance was fantastic. I don't think it's our flashiest episode. There are episodes that have more incidents in them, but it was so emotional and was so much a closure for me, because I wrote the first episode ['House of the Rising Sun'] about Jin and Sun. My dad even wrote me an e-mail after that episode telling me he was proud of me."
As to what the castaways will have to endure next season, Grillo-Marxuach said: "The second season is strictly top secret right now. Damon has alluded to his ideas about what the second season is going to be like, and once the first season is over, we are going to begin secret summit meetings to start bashing out how it will lay out over the course of the season. Come May, we'll have a lot more information about what's going to be happening. But our masterminds are very much at work on what that second season will be about." Lost airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

I'm interested to see how the finale plays out.
From what I hear Michelle Rodriguez's character is going to be a recurring one. She was in the back of the plane. So who wants to bet that the people in the other half of the plane survived? Bet it all goes back to when Boone is on the transmitter in the plane and hears "Were the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815!"

My only fear for this show is that the first season is so good that I hope they can keep it up. J.J. Abrams doesn't have a good track record for keeping his shows running as well as they did their first season. Although this one I think will be different. There are so many other good writers on it that it looks like it might be worth it.

I think Abrams gets way too much credit for Lost. He's co-creator of this show. The writers have said a few times that the co-creator Damon Lindelof should get just as much credit. Abrams only co-wrote the pilot. Lindelof wrote a couple of episodes including co-writing the finale. JJ is kept in the know of course, but he's been busier with other projects from what I understand.

What was it about The Black Rock that changed Danielle's friends? It just looked like an old ship, and did anyone else think the blond driver of the other's boat looked a little younger? They never did show a good shot of him, my guess he is 16 and the lost Alex.

So THAT was the watch that Michael had, I guess I missed somewhere that he had the watch that the Chinese guy was taking to America. But why did he just give it to him then, did he figure he'd already lost his wife? I thought they had made up?
Sawyer suicidal? Didn't we always figure that?

Here's an interesting article on Lost and other shows but it does have some spoilers:

Also from the same article is a pink sheet from the script, possibly for season two. Again might be a spoiler for you and I can't vouch for the authenticity:

Wow that site that transcribes the whispers in the jungle is awesome. I'm wondering when they are going to explain all that.
So another major character is going to die next season? I don't want them to kill off everyone.
Ohh, and I'm willing to bet good money that the people in the back end of the plane survived. That would explain why the transmission Boone hears in the plane is "We're the survivor's of Oceanic Flight 815!" With the addition of Michelle Rodriguez as a character who was in the back end of the plane it pretty much leaves it obvious.
I really love the mystery to the show. The only thing I hope is that they explain it all before the series ends. That was one thing about Xfiles that bothered me. It took too long to explain some things. They need to throw out tidbits of information more often.

Hmhrm. My thoughts:
They will discover that Desmond is Locke's only son, spontaneously conceived without a mother. And Locke will try to sacrifice him to the island, because it is destiny. But Claire's baby, whose ability to speak is revealed, will command the smoke creatures, polar bear, etc. to stop him. At this point Sawyer will return to warn them that Boone has come come back from the dead and become king of the pirates. Walter is now his undead pirate apprentice.
All this will happen next episode.

Dude... no car, no moola!
Yes we have seen the "others". The first one was Ethan Rom, who pretended to be a plane crash survivor, but Hurley discovered he wasn't on the passenger list. Ethan kidnapped the pregnant Claire and after Claire suddenly reappeared not remembering anything Ethan came back and wanted her baby and Charlie shot and killed him (I think it was Charlie, or Claire).
If you rearrange the letters of his name, Ethan Rom, you get "Other Man". That's why I love this show... very freaky.
And we saw the Others on the boat when they kidnapped Walt in the season 1 finale. They are after the children. The Others are also the ones that kidnapped the French woman, Danielle's son Alex. That is why SHE kidnapped Claire's baby and tried to give it to the Others in return for her son.

Good call, Starhorse. Now...what is in the bottle that that chick buried?
Master Cephus
10-13-2005, 12:23 PM
It was the letters that everyone wrote. When Michael, Sawyer, Jin, and Walt set sail on the boat last season, Charlie got people to write letters to people back home. When Claire found the bottle, to them it meant that they are probably dead.
I think she is hiding it because I think that she wants people to cling to that hope that they will still be rescued.
Good Epi last night. These are filler episodes. I am waiting to find out what our season objective is. Last season was sending off the boat and finding out what is in the hatch. This episode, I can't quite figure out what we are trying to obtain...

Master Cephus
10-14-2005, 12:56 AM
Those people aren't the others, they are from the plane crash, they were from the tail section of the plane. And they are connected, if you look at the wall inside the bunker, you see that Dharma insignia on the wall. But it's not the same as the one from the hatch. That section is called the "The Swan" and it has a swan in the Dharma insignia. The one that Sawyer, Jin, and Michael are taken to looks as if it might have a cross on it....

And it would make sense. Maggie Grace is in the new movie "The Fog" and she will also be in "X3" so I imagine that her career is taking off. It would be crazy for her not to leave. We also heard last season that a major character would be dying due to contract negotiations going bad.</div>

I don't really mind if this happens at all.

okay, i have a question
i've recently obtained all the episodes thus far, and episode 11 is missing the last 10 minutes
it was the episode where the candian guy that wasnt on the manifest took the pregnant girl at charlie. i got up to jack and kate finding charlie hanging in the tree or whatever
does anyone remember if there was anything important that happened after that?

Well yeah!
Jack and Kate brought Charlie back from the dead. They gave up at one point and when we were sure he was dead and gone and we were bawling our heads off... he came back to life.
One of the best scenes ever!
The man that kipnapped Claire was one of the "Others" Ethan Rom.

GAH! it figures, the only part i'm missing is one of the best scenes in the series, just my luck
yeah, ethan, i forgot his name...i'm up to 15, where claire returns, and charlie's trying not to steal from some girl he likes
i wish i had got into this show when it was on, but i guess that's what DVDs are for

This is a great theory and even if it doesn't pan out this way it's a good read and would make an awesome plot.
The original link got slammed by the Digg affect so here's the Google cache:

^ decent, but the more I read about the theories and such from different forums, it just seems like everyone is trying to use everything from the episode (ex. "did you notice that one tree only had 15,000 leaves, well we all know that the average Coconut tree has at least 23,400 leaves...that means that X is going to do Y).
I think when it's all said and done, it's going to be a little more simpler...

I agree. I think it would be hard to pull off that complex of a plot without going over the heads of 90% of their viewers. Still I love the tie-ins proposed with the scientists names...maybe something like this will happen but it would have to be at a lesser dumbed down scale.

Well that was a pretty good episode tonight, although the last two were better. I really liked Mr. Eko's story...he's a pretty cool character.
And Locke is a total badass as we saw tonight, lol.
Did anyone else feel almost pained to see Charlie do all that awful stuff? I almost said "no, don't do it!" to the TV lol.

I mean it was decent but I don't know...

Tons of people said it sucked and I was defending the episode left and right. But I am so done now. People forget it's just one chapter in the grand scheme of things. Something in that episode is going to have you saying, "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" eventually. I just can't put my finger on it yet. I missed a few things, but I taped it and am going to watch it again.
Note to myself: Charlie's fingers said FATE this week.

^ I think this is just a filler episode that sets up a decision that Charlie makes later on. Just by his look last night at the end. I think he is either going to be that bad guy that's not really bad, just makes the wrong decision.
I didn't understand the episode last night...I couldn't connect the necessity of the baby being baptised with the flashbacks...anyone shed some of the light they got out of the story?
Blizzard

All I could connect it to was Claire's story from the first season. Remember when the man (I don't remember who he was, adoption agent maybe) told Claire she and only she had to raise her child or the it would be pure evil?

I didn't hate the episode last night, but I was a bit bored with it as well. Although I do agree that the way these things work it usually will tie into something later on where we'll say 'aha'!

I though it was pretty crazy when Charlie though he saved the baby and yet apparently he was was the one that took it out of Claire's tent and brought it down to the beach.

I really liked the last episode. I think that it showed a lot of pressure and pain that Charlie is carrying around. It seems that he had the burden of saving his family his whole life. First from poverty, then his brother from drugs/himself. In the end, when Charlie needed someone there for him everyone bailed.
Now, he feels that same responsibility for Claire and the baby but he keeps messing things up. In the end when he needed somone to understand and believe him, no one was there. So he did what he felt was best at the time and that turned out to be a mistake. In the end though his goal of having Aarron baptized was met, just not the way he wanted.
I feel really bad for Charlie, I am hoping that Echo can help him out. He has turned out to be one of my favorite characters.

i thought last week's episode was pretty good...i like the episodes that show more of the traumatizing backstories, and i thought it was really cool that we see so far back in charlie's life...almost like his story is coming to an end.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
but i have to say that eko's episode was far better, mostly because we actually got to see the black cloud for more than a second
now, maybe someone can help me out here.......the black cloud isn't the monster, but is just a seperate part of the security system, correct?
