I'm probably coming to this topic late, but I just got the paperback version of Star by Star and....

From the NJO so far, no one else is even remotely as strong in the force as Anakin was and very surprised (and little disapointed) that a acutal body was left to bring back for a funeral. How strong in the force does someone have to be?</td></tr></table>

GL is suppose to explain the "disappearing Jedi" thing in Episode III. Till then I've heard that no one else can disappear till he explains it. ???

It isn't so much about strength but contact with the will of the Force.

Yeah. Anakin. I was also expecting him to dissapear. In fact, I thought he had a first. Not for any reason having to do with the Force, but because of the way he died. Here's something I posted in another thread:

Any theory you've heard as to why Jedi do or do not disappear when they die, forget it. It wouldn't matter in this case. If Anakin had died the way they said he did, I do not believe there would be a body left. These quotes come straight from the book: Anakin describes that he could feel "his cells begin to burn and burst", the Force "saturating him and devouring him", "the glow of his cells burning out", "His cells were burning like fire", "The energy was burning its way out of him, consuming a vessel too weakened to contain it", "his cells rupturing in chain reactions, the cycles coming faster and faster as less of him remained to contain the energy." Now, reason with me that if beings are made up of cells, (blood cells, skin cells, organ cells, etc) and if his cells were burning and rupturing, then his cells were ceasing to exist, therefore, his body would cease to exist. When it said Anakin was gone, I was thinking GONE. Like Obi-Wan was gone, and Yoda was gone. I was completely convinced that Anakin was dead, until they went back for his body.
As you can tell, I'm not convinced he's really dead. And I haven't read anything in the recent books to change my mind. It's almost like they're trying too hard to convince us he's dead.

But this thread isn't about whether or not he's dead, it's about why he didn't dissapear. I don't have a good explaination. And what could be more with the will of the Force than giving your life as a diversion so your friends could escape? That's what Obi-Wan did, wasn't it?

I thought the same thing, Luvinna, when I read Anakin's death scene. But from what I have read its something the Jedi has to know how to do. And not all Jedi know how to do it. Perhaps Vergere will know that trick.

What condition does Anakin's body end up in? How much of a body do they have left for a funeral?

Enough that every one in Dark Journey recognizes him as Anakin. I'm not sure it ever really says. The only way I remember him being actually injured was an internal injury, and I was under the impressing he was actually bleeding to death on the inside. I remember that he kept it hidden from the others, and when Tahiri found out she tried to convince him to go into a healing trance. He said something to the effect of, "No, there's no time."

DUDE! When he died in that book I cried so hard! Anakin was the character I chose in the series from all the way back to Champions of the Force to make my strongest bond with. I was sooooooo close to Anakin while reading the books. Everything he experienced, I could almost feel. Hope this doesn't scare any of you, I just get really deep into books. I was shaking so bad when I read that part...I didn't want to read anymore of the book...I finally put it down and haven't picked it back up since Tahiri and Jaina went to get his body...

I pretty much thought Anakin did dissapear, and was confused when he didn't. What with the burning and the cells and the sparks and
crackling.
I also like the idea of him being in some kind of trance, but it's been months since his death.

Pretty sure he's just gone. But it just depends on the authors writing. If they decide to bring him back, then they will. I mean...the whole Tahiri/Anakin thing, "The two of you together are stronger than the sum of your parts." was lost somewhere in the series. So...they'll either bring him back or twist his plot, or let him fade out like the Tahiri/Anakin bond.

I'm still going with the dappleganger theory.

Sorry to be a downer but,...Anakin is toast. Please accept it and move on. I think that it would cheapen the entire EU if Anakin just "pops" back up and is alive this whole time. That would be lame.

Again I appologize if I seem crass...JMHO

in rogue planet, i found anikan (skywalker) pre-death scene intriuging
he said something like he knew it was his time to die and started to prepare his soul for unity with the force. now correct me if im wrong but doesnt that sound like he was taught how to, which would mean that the jedi temple taught their students how to "become one with the force" he said that he started to calm his spirit, his anger , and hate, he tried to make peace with his inner turmoil.

i know we'retalking about anikan solo, but if we understand a little more about the "become one withthe force" thing we might be able to accurately predict if anikan solo really is gone for good, even though i too liked anikan above all the other jedi

Okay, then if we're talking about Anakin Skywalker being taught at the temple the technique of "becoming one with the Force", or disappearing when he dies, then it can be argued that Luke was never taught that so consequentially, neither were any of Luke's students. Pretty much everyone agrees that Luke got a crash course in becoming a Jedi. All through the books he talks about how he doesn't know how the old Jedi Council would have handled things, or how they taught the students. I guess it is possible that Luke could have learned that from the Holocron, because I have to agree, Anakin Solo certainly seemed to "calm his spirit, his anger, and hate," and "make peace with his inner turmoil." He had totally accepted the fact that he was going to die.

All theories aside, I still think he should have disappeared if he had died the way they said he did (as stated before with all the cells burning and bursting and crackling, etc).

ofcourseluke didnt get taught ta, cause yoda and ben probablly figured that they had to make sure there would be any jedi so that the jedi could relearn these things
