I drive a pair of black leather sketcher boots. I have epilepsy, so the state doesn't let me drive. If you don't know what epilepsy is, I'll tell you if you ask nicely.
So if I get upset easily over little things, it's because life dealt me a stinky hand and I get bitter sometimes. Sorry. I know, it could be worse.
I hate it when people say that. It's like "other people have worse problems, so yours don't matter." I know I have a lot to be thankful for, but still...epilepsy really sucks, lol.
Sorry for making you all listen to me rant. Anyway, if I could drive, I'd get a black miata. Or a civic coupe. The last one would probably be closer to my price range, lol.

Are there different levels of seriousness of epilepsy? Supposedly, my uncle has it (not sure what kind of treatment he has for it), but he can drive and operate his farm machinery (at least he can physically - I wouldn't know if he was doing so illegally here in Iowa).
Justin
10-09-2002, 12:38 AM
Yeah, there are different levels. First, it depends on the type and frequency of your seizures, and second is how well you do under medication.
There's a law in VA that you can only get your license if there's been six months between the time you apply and the time you had your last seizure. In some states it's even more strict than that. It used to be two years here.

Tovor
10-09-2002, 03:03 AM
Justin, what meds are you taking? I have epilepsy too but I can drive since my seizures are controlled by meds, and so I haven't had a convulsive seizure in 21 years. I had split my head open in 1981, and since then I was on Dilantin, Tegretol, Felbatol, Depekote, and for the last 4 years Neurontin. I do get them on rare occasions but they are petite mal and localized.
This is really not the right thread for us to discuss this anyway. I wonder if I might start a medical thread for discussion of medical problems?

i just got a new honda accord ex v6. this is really a great car -- lots of value for the money.
i was also looking at the accura tl which i liked a lot, but it was about $8k more and always wanted 91 octane gas. in the end the accord was actually a bit more comfortable too, and the tl seemed like a bit of a "mid life crisis" car to me.
i was tempted to get the hybrid, but it was about 5k or 6k more and certain items could only be serviced by the dealership.

I have an '05 Accord EX V6. Got a great deal on it to: $75 over invoice. I was considering the Acura TL but that was $8k more and wanted 91 octane gas....
The heated driver's seat is great: warms up my lower back on the way to the rink on all those cold mornings, and helps prevent lower back strains from playing hockey. At my age, tho, I'll probably strain something else before long... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I could've sworn there was a thread about this but it may have been archived. Oh well, here's mine.
82 Ford Mustang GL. Nothing special. Bought it a few years ago for 300 bucks.
Someone offered to buy it, and I might sell it since I just saw an 88 Ford Escort GL Hatchback that someone was selling for 1200 bucks. It supposedly only had 63K miles, an extraordinary feat for an 18 year old car.
Not ideal, but it could be an upgrade for this poor schmo. And I am partial to creations from the 80s.

nice cars! at least compared to mine. Because I dont dare take my car on the highway, it isnt with me here at college. It usually just sits in front of my house, collecting rust. With this in mind, my neighborhoods trash man noticed this, and offered to tow the car for scrap to my mother. I was there when this happened, and if that trash man had given a scrap value of 500 dollars or more, I would have taken it. When my friend heard this, he was like, 'told ya so'.

That's the first time I've ever heard someone refer to their car as masculine and not feminine.
Well he is blue. That's one thing and in my country people actually call 1303 Beetles, turtles.I just couldn't think of a female blue turtle at the beginning and ever since I was a kid, he was male. I mean my father used to call him "Come on son, let's climb that hill." whenever we met a steep hill on the way to our summer holiday. I do not know why.
I mean people even address mighty war ships as females, but my VW is a boy.

I've got a 2003 Vauxhall Astra, 1.8SXi. It's got about 60,000 miles on the clock. It's a smooth ride and easy to drive and it has enough power to be quick without being real quick.
I'd like something a bit flashier, but to be honest with the amount of mileage I do it's probably not worth me getting anything other than a TDi next time around. Realistically I'd hope to upgrade to an Audi or a Merc in the next 3 years.

I am desperate for a newer car now. But with the economy the way it is I am really nervous about spending out too much. What to do, what to do?
^What about buying a deisel?
Jedi Master Harrison
06-27-2008, 09:20 AM
Yeah, I'm looking at that, but as it is 15p a litre more expensive than petrol right now, even taking into account the economy factor it is not much, if any, cheaper. Plus I know the bottom is gonna fall out of the 2nd hand car market so I need to get a make that will hold value, but that means that I have to spend out more initially. *Sigh*
If only people could govern the world economy in a half sensible manner. Still, at least I have no debt other than my mortgage, currently.
^Don't forget that deisels use less fuel than engines that run with unleaded, especially when you are driving in the city.
Jedi Master Harrison
06-27-2008, 10:50 AM
Yeah, sorry mate, that's what I meant by the 'economy factor'. You might well get 550 miles to a tank as opposed to 350 using unleaded, but the cost of diesel is 15p a litre more which I suppose amounts to £7.50 a tank, or something similar. I need to do the sums more exactly, but I do know that a lot of people are now going out and buying 1.6 litre petrol engines rather than 2.0 diesels.
