If you want a trade paperback, then I would recommend the Twilight or Darkness comics by Dark Horse. The stories are great and the art is fantastic. I would recommend starting with Twilight since it is the first in an ongoing saga featuring Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, and his padawan Aayla Secura. The latest arc in the series is Rite of Passage, which chronicles Aayla Secura's journey to Jedi Knighthood. But it's not out in TPM yet.
Twilight is the first in the "series", so I would recommend that one. If you enjoy it (and I guarentee you will!!) then go on and get Darkness and Rite of Passage. The comics are written by John Ostrander and features the artwork of the amazing Jan Duursema!

I've heard good things about the new Empire: Betrayal comic series, which just released last month. Also, the Jango Fett: Open Seasons comic (which will be in trade paperback form in December) was supposed to be awesome.

If you like the X-wing books you will probably enjoy the Rogue Squadron comics.
I thought Open Seasons was very subpar. Both the story and the art. While Bachs and Fernandez aren't my personal favorites I think I've seen work of their's I thought was better.
Betrayal #1 was fairly good, I haven't picked the second issue up yet.
If you want to start on the Ongoing (now Republic) you can start at of course #1. That's Prelude to Rebellion which is the first six issues and I think Vow of Justic (the backup story in #4-6) is in the TPB as well. Or you can move ahead to Twilight which is #19-22 which focus' on a new character Quinlan Vos and also intruduces Aayla Secura who made it into AotC.
In order to recommend a place to start in comics it helps to know what you like in books. Do you prefer Zahn? If so Mara Jade: By The Emperor's Hand is a good one. If you prefer KJA you could try Knights of the Old Republic (set 4000 years before the movies but later in the series it ties into the JAT) or Dark Empire, the most important SW comic just by it's impact on the rest of the EU. It takes place between TTT and the JAT.

The Crimson Empire series (1 and 2) are pretty good if you like the Imperial Royal Guards. Nice scene with Vader in #1.
Also the Dark Empire duology. While the art is sub-standard, it's a decent story and it gets referred to a bit in the NJO.
Also, the entire Sith era (About 6 of them, I believe) is very interesting, and I'd probably rate that the highest.

Thanks a lot all of you, yes I heard good things about Betrayal too but I want something in TPB and I don't want to wait until December for Jango, I have a bunch of X-wing Rogue Squadron comics but I abandon those around the time of Masquerade, I have read Dark Empire I I liked it but I found the idea of the resurrected cloned Emperor stupid and it took a lot of importance from Darth Vader’s death, it makes it seem as he died for nothing, but there where a lot of good stuff in there too and I liked the whole Dark Side thing with luke, is Dark Empire II good? is it worth buying it?, well and for the ones of the Sith era you are referring to the ones from Tales of the Jedi right? I read an script taken from the audio book a long time ago but I never finished it, I really found interesting characters in there like Ulic Qel Droma his brother and sister and his master who's I don't remember his name also Exar Kun and Vodo Bass <-- was that the master?, well the thing is I have read some reviews of this comics online and they bashed the whole thing so I chicken out in buying them.
Has anybody read the Jedi Vs. Sith comic with Darth Bane on it? I’m looking at it right now and it seems good...

Jedi Vs Sith is ok.
My advice remains the same. If you are interested in the Jedi and the Sith, get the Sith Era graphic novels. It ties in with a lot of the later books such as the Jedi Academy trilogy and some of the NJO

I wanted to let star wars fans know about my new book: Star Wars: the new myth. I don't mean to bother or pester anyone, but I thought fans would want to know. It is a study of the first 4 films from a mythical standpoint. I would love to talk with other SW fans about this subject, and welcome you all to join me at my news group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/swmyth/ Or, if you like, you can check out the book at all major bookstores online. I look forward to hearing from all of you, and again apologize for the intrusive message.

"Detective Comics" is excellent these days, and the regular "Batman" monthly is pretty good too.
If you're a little older, you could pick up "Crusades," but you need to get some of the back issues, too. It's really good reading.
But bar none, the best comic on the market is "Powers," by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
You should get the trade paperbacks "Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl" and "Powers: Roleplay." You can get them at just about any comic book shop, and they also sell the trade paperbacks at Borders and Barnes & Noble.
I know this is supposed to be about Star Wars comics, but if you like comics you should definitely get the ones I mentioned.

Thanks Justin but i'm not really a fan of comics i have a couple of batman comics and i have read some of the xmen comics but i just don't really like them, the whole superhero thing just doesn't go with me.
Ok i bought the Jedi vs. Sith comic and i think it was good, but it had some kind of LOTR feeling it didn't seem starwars and the alien species where again like from a LOTR or zelda or that kind of thing, the story was good anyway but i wanted to see more of Darth Bane and there wasn't much there, well it was good anyway.
One Lad to Rule Them All i have a question is it necessary to read all of the tales of the jedi comics to read the ones about the Fall of the Sith Empire and the Sith war? because i was planning to buy those next

I'd reccomend Twilight & Darkness 'cause of the great stories and characterizations. If you're a Zahn/Mara fan then buy Mara Jade: By The Emperor's Hand, you won't regret it.

It's not necessary (there's a synopsis at the start of each one I think) but it helps you in getting to know the characters. I'd advise you to read them in order, but it's not essential.

Spawn (http://spawn.com)
its the best comic in existance. The storyline is quite involved, but once you start you'll be hooked. Trade paper back reprints are available.
also, Star Wars Empire is looking really good, I've been waiting for something like this for years, I just can't get into all the Knights of the Old Republic stuff.

I am just getting into the Star Wars comics, and I want to start with the Sith era trade paperbacks. Is there a place online that offers low prices and is reliable?
I ordered Golden Age of the Sith TPB from Things From Another World (TFAW). The total price was about $20. Is that below, above, or right on the average price for that type of comic collection?
Of course, I will also explore local options, but I want to know about some of the great Internet comic sources.

I've used TFAW in the past for buying back issues and TPBs and their service is wonderful, although their shipping costs to canada were a bit high the last time I used them.
Other than them, alot of the SW TPBs that are still in print are available from Amazon.com, under their usual regimen of discounts etc. The key word here though is in print. Some of the Sith era books like Tales of the Jedi haven't been reprinted in awhile so it's getting harder to find them online (TFAW has the advantage in that it is partially owned by DHC). For some of the really obscure titles, you might actually be able to find them more easily, and at a better price, at your local Comic shop and/or conventions.

The latest Tales in pretty cool. Republic Commando Story, Jedi Story, and then a Biker Scout and a rebel Trooper stuck together on Endor.

Well I think that Twillight, Darkness and Rite of Passage are the best older Republic ones, but than again our opinions about books are very different Ripley so I don't know if you should be taking my advice. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
