At the end of ROTJ both the sith master and the apprentice are gone, does that mean that the ancient line of the sith was finally broken? Or is it a title another darksider could come along and claim?

Hi there. I might know where the answer to that is. Check out the "Balance of the Force" discussion, since part of that discussion refers to the Sith and the end of the Sith line. Hope to see ya there=)

Well it's hard to say. But im sure the Sith are finished unless a Jedi turns on the Jedi Order. Ah this bytes The Sith rule!

Actually the line has been broken before, there was a period of time where there were no living Sith. A spirit of a dead Sith lead a man to a Yavin IV (Latter the Jedi Acadamy planet)where a bunch of hidden Sith stuff was. He instructed this man in the ways of the Sith, and the order was reaslablished. I think all the Sith spirits are "dead" now, but authors love to throw stuff like that back in there. There is always the possibility that a Jedi will fall to the Dark Side, or someone will have force abilities and will not be found by the Jedi and will go down the dark path. Evil is always present, and I'm certain that somewhere down the line someone will fall to the dark side, someone always does.

If you really want to get into the Official Continuity on the issue, which I doubt many on this particular board does, I could point out that the Sith line was never broken from Sidious onward. It went:
Sidious and Maul
Sidious
Sidious and Tyrannus
Sidious and Vader
Sidious and Vader, with Vader training Lumiya
Lumiya
Lumiya and Carnor Jax
Lumiya
Lumiya is still presumed alive in the NJO era, and the newest materials have named her Darth Lumiya, heir of the Sith from her training under Vader.

Also I dont think the Sith will never be extinct. There is always someone who turns on the Jedi Order. It can't be perfect.

There can never be good without evil. They are hand in hand, they need each other to survive.
So, with that cryptic sentence, I have to say that there will always be a Sith Lord out there somewhere.

That doesn't necessarily mean the Sith have to be that evil. Take the years after Crimson Empire for example. We don't see the rise of a new Sith Lord or Sith Apprentice after Carnor Jax is killed, and Lumiya drops from sight. At that point, probably the most fearsome foe since the Emperor, and perhaps greater than the Emperor, is the Yuuzhan Vong, are far more of a "yang" to the GFFA's "yin" than "simple" Sith would be.
