The reason that Cigs are legal, and will never be a Controlled substance is not ONLY because of the Taxes and all that...do you all have any clue about how many JOBS are in the Tobacco industry? IF Cigs were mad illegal states like North/South Carolina, Tennessee would pretty much go bankrupt as it's one of the main cash rops.

Me myself I can't smoke. I'm pretty active and I have asthma and smoking would ruin it all.

I don't have anything against smokers. I just can't do it myself for health reasons. That and I've had 3 family members die of lung cancer. They were all smokers of course and it led them to early deaths.

I used to enjoy a cigarette here and there. Like occasionally at a bar or party. Maybe a cigar. Then I decided to pick it up out of boredom. It lasted a few months. I smoked when my friends smoked. Smoked when I was 'supposed' to, when people usually smoked. I didn't crave them for the entire time I smoked, until the end. That's when I gave my friends the rest of my pack and didn't smoke again. No big deal.

Ah, but it is a big deal. Smoking in general, that is. People act like smokers are second class citizens. I am all for the creation of "Smoke Bars" with specialized high-power ventilation systems. I'm also for the creation of healthier cigarettes. Not completely healthy, no, but healthier.

People like to yell at the big tabacco corporations, but the act of smoking was popular long before they ever came around.

This coming January 17th will be 2 years cold turkey. I woke up one day, after almost 8 years of smoking, and decided that enough was enough. I do still enjoy the occassional cigar on the golf course though but not too often.

If you do smoke what kind of cigarettes do you smoke? I started on Marlboro Reds for the first 3 years and then spent the last 5 smoking Marlboro Lights. Although every two weeks on payday, before I went out for the night, I would spend the extra $2 (as if it was that much more) and treat myself to a pack of Lucky Strike non-filters. I do miss those bad boys a little bit.

Well, last time I smoke that stuff was few month ago - I agree with Senator Cassus Fett, if you do, you must smoke once in a while, not that often otherwise your brain will become soft very soon... there are some Rasta people who would disagree, but I still say it is not a thing to joke with, got to be careful, it'll be too late to feel sorry. Someone said that there are three basic pleasures in smoking:
1)Esthetically - you enjoy the slow dance of smoke clouds in the air before you.
2)Ritually - for many people smoking cigarette, cigar or pipe or arabian shisha is a pure ritual. Here we have more or less relaxation, illusion of relief etc... no need to explain.
3)Meditatively - you are in your own circle of thoughts when you light up a cigarette, little different state of mind... Again for a few very different - due to both previous factors.

I've already answered the survey question, but I've got some input that spawned off of a commercial I saw. You may have seen it. Teens looking at a bunch of tombstones, all dated the same day. Then it says that 1,200 people die every day in the US from smoking.

Now, the most recent yearly death count I can find is from 2004. How much of a delay is there from year's end to the time the count is completed? Anyways, I used the 2004 count for my purposes, it should be relevant enough to make my point.

2,398,343 total deaths in 2004. Okay, if 1,200 a day die from smoking, that's 438,000 in one year. So, of the total deaths for 2004, by the commercial's statistics, 18.3% of those deaths were "from smoking". I use the quotes because who knows what they qualified as smoking deaths to pad their numbers.

I just don't think I can believe almost a fifth of US deaths were from smoking, and commercials like that disappoint me.

Did you guys know that smoking is unhealthy, even deadly? When I smoked my first cigarette, I had no idea. Thank goodness for all these anti-tobacco campaigns. They really need to open the eyes up of young smokers.

Over here where i live unless it your own home you cant smoke inside anywhere. That includes pub bars etc. Smoking is a strickly outside activity. No smokers rooms nothing.
I actually work in a bar around the time the law came in. Went from smelling like smoke one night to just smelling like hard work the next. Was a great change.
