Yay! my first survey!!! *ahem*

I came back from class today, turned on the tv and caught a bit of "The Bachelor." (Okay, I saw the damn thing) Anyway, it got me thinking and decided to get your opinion about certain things.

1. Would you participate as a bachelor or bachelorette? Why?

2. What type of people do you think are willing to participate?

3. Do you think this is a product of our society, of the isolation in which we live in?

Okay, I'm not Tovor so forgive my lack of questions and depth, but this is my first survey so I's much rather give you something short and sweet, not bore you with my craziness.

I hope you enjoy answering them and please don't throw any tomatoes or eggs at me http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/contrib/ed/angel2.gifhttp://216.40.241.68/contrib/edoom/Hydrogen.gif

1/ No, I wouldn't go on it. Not for a million of your fine American bucks or unless Gilly Anderson was on it that week too.

2/ People who wanna impress their friends or who think they'll enjoy the effects of small scale TV fame and some folks who just wanna have a good time.

3/ I think it's all part of our FAMOUS FOR 15 MINUTES culture in which (seemingly) every single teenage in the world wants to be a TV star or rap singer or model. They don't wanna do any of those things because they have a talent for it. Or a natural calling. Or because they have something to say. They wanna do it to get famous. People used to get famous for actually doing something. Now people ant fame just for it's own sake. How many famous people can you think of who are famous for just being famous?
I'm not blaming the people per say. It's the result of a media culture which puts more value on someone who is a famous loser or famous crook or criminal than someone who is not famous but has (say) done something worth while like invented a heart bypass valve. Where's the sexy angle in that for the press? There isn't one. So rather than run a well written piece about saving lives, how about a piece of sleeze about someone who is only famous for saying / claiming that they slept with Bill Clinton?

I know that reads harshly Lara but 1/ that's what people love me for on this board. 2/ I think in general it's true for a worrying amount of young people on the planet. (But far from all!)

Interesting poll topic. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
I love you all.

DB, thanks, I'm glad you found it interesting. It's your opinion and I like opinions, especially if they are controversial. I didn't find what you wrote to be harsh http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/cwm/cwm/twirl.gif

1) I'm too much of a hopeless bachelor to ever think things would improve by playing one on TV.

2) I decline to comment. Let's just say my answer wouldn't be favorable.

3) As I remarked somewhere after this American Idle hubbubb was done and read that this "winner's" new single would be shipped to stores almost immediately, it seems American culture has allowed itself to devolve to one giant Tupperware party, where everything is a similarly interchangeable piece of plastic.

1. No way in hell; I have too much respect for myself to be part of an ensemble of cows in a "Finest Bovine" paegeant.

2. They are desperate for their own brief moment under the limelight and they are probably people who use that as a platform to enter showbiz. They are vain; the "bachelor" wants to live a childish fantasy of having his own harem and the women think that because they are pretty they deserve to win, they think their looks will get them anywhere. The ultimate aspiration of these women is to become trophy wives, and the men want a beautiful women at their side like an accesory that makes him look good.

3. I believe it is a produt of our society; the world produces these types of empty idols that the rest of us mortals have to worship and emulate. They think appearance is all.

1. Would you participate as a bachelor or bachelorette? Why?
Never. They'd make fun of me all over the internet like they did Jay and Silent Bob in Jay adn Silent Bob Strike Back, because I am so damn ugly.

2. What type of people do you think are willing to participate?
Drama queens and gay guys.

3. Do you think this is a product of our society, of the isolation in which we live in?
I wish I lived in isolation, on a deasert island with the guys I named in the deserted island survey.

I have never watched the show, nor discussed the show with anyone, nor read or heard anything about it, so I can't comment or pass judgement on it. But if it's anything like that Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire show, also which I did not see but heard too much about, or any of the other recent sleazeball shows that have made the news over the past couple of years I'd say no wonder the rest of the world has such a bad opinion of American culture.

It's this guy who has to chose a woman among 30 or so. He meets them once, eliminates some; then meets the runners up and eliminates some more. Imagine a cattle farmer in a bovine fair chosing the best cows.

I think the whole world has gone nuts.

I wonder how many diseases he contracted while getting to know all those women at once.

LMAO!!! not "know" in that sense, like a party with only women.

There are other freakish shows in other parts of the world too.
