What is up with James Luceno having to include cameos in every book?
In COD he puts in Jorus C'boath and Vergere, in AOCHT he puts in Roa, mentions Mimban, the planet from SOTME, puts in Lowie, an there are many more I probably didn't catch, whats with this?

Because it makes people pause and say out loud... "Cool!"

What's wrong with including a few cameos? True, he could make up his own characters, but it's more fun, for both the reader and the author, to take a minor character from one of the movies, or other novels and use him. If you don't like cameos, then don't even think of reading any Stephen King books, Stephen constantly puts characters previous novels into his new ones, in a brief cameo role. Personally, I think it is a lot of fun, I can't see what you could have against it.

You mean like how, in Pet Semetary, Stephen King had Campian, from the Stand drive past the house.
The Stand is one of the greatest books ever written.
I never said anything against cameos, just that JL adds more than most authors do.

I just think what's with James Luceno, period. I don't think he's suited to the SW universe and AoC I and II were the worst NJO books so far. I'm not looking forward to seeing how he ties it all up with The Unifying Force, though that said, the latter half of Jedi Eclipse was fairly entertaining but 3/4 of the duology was dire.

He also put in Darsha Assant and her Twi' lek Jedi Master (whose name escapes me) from Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter in Cloak of Deception.
Because it makes people pause and say out loud... "Cool!"
That's exactly what I did when I saw them in the book.

O-B-Gates, I have a question for you and others here. You may have heard me mention previously that I have a SW 2-book series in the works. It is set 300 years after ROTJ and obviously has all new characters and situations, but one of my main characters while seeking info in the Jedi library gets help from 2 very familair droids who I put in as a cameo. Obviosuly this is a new Jedi library as the one in the prequels is presumed destroyed, and droids do last a very long time. Do you think that in a completely new story with all new characters, that it is lame or cheesy to have R2 and 3PO appear in such a cameo to help the character download vital info for her sleuthing mission?

Nope. It would be cool to me. I don't know how you would sell the idea that Threepio and Artoo are still around after 300 years, but go for it. Who else has that info about the Jedi Library? Perhaps a long-lost holocron with Jedi material in it would be a decent way to ascertain info about the Jedi Library. Hell, I don't know. I'm not a writer, just a reader.
Sounds like cool books, Tovor. When will you be finished?

God only knows. I could finish them in a matter of months if I wasn't so bogged down with work, and if I wasn't dealing with the negative issues I mentioned to you and our group in another area.

I think it would be cool, Tov. Why couldn't they be around 300 years later? They were around in the prequels and trilogy. I'd like to see how you make it happen!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unhappy.gif I tried to read it last summer and I couldn't do it anymore after 500 pages. I don't like King's work. I also don't understand why people like Anne Rice. I couldn't finish any of her novels 'cause found them dull and predictable. But I guess someone could say that about Star Wars to... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
