Smallville is actually one of my favorite shows on T.V. right now. I have never seen a bad episode of that show. I'm even toying with the idea of getting the first season on DVD.

I love Smallville, a whole new outlook of a beloved character. It is just interesting to see the mild mannered while struggling through teen agnst and drama. Some aspects of the show i am not crazy over, Lex Luther has way to big a role IMO, but i must say it is interesting too see how he became what we know him to later be.

Fun, good stories, Tom Welling shirtless.. hey it has it all

Poor Tom Welling. I hope he doesn't get type cast like Dean Cain from the Lois and clark series. Dean hasn't had a decent job since.

I don't know why studio execs are looking to cast another Superman for the new Superman movie. What they should do is let the Smallville show run it's course and then transition to the movie using Tom Welling to become actual Superman. He does a good job and he is definitely old enough. Plus, it would help keep the recent continuity of the character with the same actor.

I heard that they asked, and he said no.

The Superman movie they're planning is supposed to be the first of a trilogy, starting at the beginning with Superman's origins.

I got into Smallville at the end of the first season. A friend of mine turnned me on to the show. I love the show. I even like seeing John Schnider (sp?) back on TV. I never thought I would say that style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

I agree with P-Ray. Give the show a couple of more seasons and then have Tom Welling play Superman. I don't know if he said no or not but it sure would be cool to see him a little more grown up and putting on the suit.

Lana of course would have to get naked somehow.....ok, I am waking up now style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif

He probably realizes that if he does convert to the movies, he may never be able to land another significant roll after that. Some have gone on to to other things after they have played a character for so long, but for some reason guys who have played Superman haven't been very successful.

I personally don't feel that hosting Ripley's believe it or not is incredibly successful. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

There's really no if about that, but Whelling would be perfect for the role and they know that, what I understand is that John Schneider told him not to do it because he'd get type-cast.

If you follow the reports from IGN Filmforce and other film sites, the guy they want played Jim Caviesel's son in the Count of Monty Cristo. If not him they have a handful of others they've considered, and they'll be choosing soon cause' the film is supposed to go into production by next year.

This I already know. What I was trying to elude to is that they need to let his character grow up some more too. This could be done with one or two more seasons and then when the movie is done he would be playing a character in his early thirties. Which he will already be in real life too.

Continuity has never really been an issue for Superman. It seems that every new imagining changes the story a little here and there to fit their own needs. The time frame has always been updated to present times as well.

I am not a HUGE superman fan so i really do not all the details but that is what my friend Brian (who is) tells me, and from what i have seen and remember that does seem to be the case.

Hey guys.... Is Smallville still running over there in Unaiten?
If that is the case... Wich season is running?
Here in Norway we saw the episode where he was having nightmare's and stuff. The one he was skinny-dipping with Lana and where Lex tried the Samurai sword on him.(in his dreams).

How far behind are we poor Norwegians?

It is the same season we are in (Season 3). The name of the episode is Slumber. We are about 13 episodes ahead of you but as Mann said in reruns until mid-april.

There does seem a lack of spoilers about the finale. KryptonSite (http://www.kryptonsite.com/smallvillespoilers.htm) says the title is Covenant. That is all i know.

Best show on TV right now. I got hooked during season one. I've always been more of a Batman fan than a Supes fan, but Smallville really drags you in.

I'd love to say more about recent eps, but I see there's so many from other places where they haven't aired as many eps as they have in the States. Hm...oh well.

Mid April the new ones come back, and the first one looks like a doozy!

Can't wait.

I just wonder when he's going to find out he can fly. I thought he was going to do it to save Lana during the Tornado episode, but no. How many other powers does comic supes have that we haven't seen yet from Clark?

Flying and Microscopic Vision are the only two I can think of...

EDIT: there's also Cold Breath, and Force Blast (using his lungs).

The whole flying thing isn't going to be in the show, at least not for now.

They have hinted at it with the Tornado "I could control" and his dreams and visions show him flying.

They also said they wouldn't be showing any of the Kryptons. But in an upcoming episode (Memoria) we see Jor-El and Lara. So who knows. I think the original guidelines they were using are getting stretched further and further.

No, I don't remember Jor-El being like this, that's why I think storyline may reveal it's actually somebody else prentening to be Jor-El. ( Maybe General Zod). Or it could be Jor-El and they are changing a few things from the comics just like they have done with a lot of other stuff in Smallville vs. other Superman shows, comics or movies.

I do like your idea about Chloe. Because if not she may be leaving the show. She's not really used much anymore anyhow.

Apparently he flies in the first episode. The ad for the new season on the back of one of my comics says "it was only a matter of time..." and it shows a close up of him that looks like he's flying, and at the bottom there is a picture of Lois and it says "before Lois."

I had heard that Warner Brothers told the producers of Smallville not to have a romantic angle to Lois and Clark's relationship because they're making the new Superman film, but that seems really dumb to me. I mean, the show's the show and the movie's the movie.

It's not like Smallville is a prequel to the movie, because their continuity is going to be seperate. So who cares if there's tension between Clark and Lois on the show?

I thought it was a great episode, exciting way to start the season, i also thought they did a good job with the "Flight" scene, i was worried. I just goes to show to everyone who says special effects cannot be believably done on a television budget.

Interesting thing i noticed. Clark told his mother and father after becoming Clark again that all the things that happened while he was Kal-El where blurry. Like he couln't remember them too well. Than when he met Lois at the cemetary he rattled off all the things he learned about her. Like he remembered it perfectly. I think he was tying not to frighten Martha by hiding from her that he still carried the memories and knowledge he obtained in the void.

One of the Cheerleaders from the football team made a love potion that had some of "the meteor Rock" in it. It made Chloe lovesick for Clark which was pretty funny. Lana's secret boyfriend drank some and was jealous of Clark. He beat Clark up after he comsumed some and made him vulnerable to pain and injury. Also. Lex and Clark kind of made up and Clark got Lex to help get Lois back into Metropolis U.

It was an o.k. episode. Some very funny parts especially seein Chloe jump around as a cheerleader.

I like Smallville, too. And the WB really seems to enjoy the concept of hiatus. Grr ... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif

Anyway, my favorite episodes this season were "Unsafe" and "Pariah," when they brought Alicia back. I had so much respect for Chloe and the way she handled learning Clark's secret (and I absolutely HATED Chloe during Season 1), Lois and her trying to stop Clark from killing the guy who killed Alicia, and ... well, Alicia, all around. She turned out to be a pretty cool character. You really get the sense that she revealed Clark's secret because she cared about him and wanted people to accept him. You also get the sense in "Pariah" that she has learned from her mistakes. On the flip side, I lost a lot of respect for Clark's parents. Even after Alicia died, they didn't seem to care all that much, besides to say the cliche, "What happened to Alicia wasn't your fault."

The Teague family storyline is quite intriguing, though (having watched "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" several years back) it's been interesting getting used to Jane Seymour playing the part of the villainess.

Guys check this out.
Rosenbaum Talks Onyx and Star Wars at TVGuide.com

Smallville Devil's Star Wars Connection
by Damian J. Holbrook

Smallville

Bald is beautiful. And, if you're Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum, it's also very lucrative. As the follicularly challenged Lex Luthor on WB's smashing Superman drama, Rosenbaum has spent four seasons toying with the Teen of Steel's circle of friends. Tonight (at 8 pm/ET) he gets a dose of his own villainy in an episode that finds a pair of Lexes on the loose. That gives Rosenbaum a reason to talk to TVGuide.com about everything from acting with himself to the lighter side of going to the dark side.

TVGuide.com: So is the world ready for two Lexes?
Michael Rosenbaum: Best episode of the year, man. This experiment goes wrong and all of a sudden there's two of me running around.

TVG: It's a Luthorpalooza!
Rosenbaum: When I first heard about the episode, [executive producer] Greg Beeman told me, "Man, you are in every scene... every page." Then I got the script and 47 pages out of 50 are me. It was an absolute blast.

TVG: But maybe not so much for everyone else in Smallville, huh?
Rosenbaum: Yeah! [Laughs] I get to beat the s--t out of Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), which I've been waiting to do for three seasons. He's such a d--- to Lex! I get to beat Clark up, I get to sword fight [Lionel]. But the best thing is, you know how you get [can] get tired of yourself? The best remedy is to beat the hell out of yourself. And I get to do that.

TVG: How'd playing opposite yourself work out for you?
Rosenbaum: It was difficult, because there comes a time when you're sitting there with a crew and you're acting to nothing and you're reacting to nothing. You're [going wild] in front of [these people] who have to be thinking, "You've got to be the biggest moron." But you just let go.... If it sucks, you deck the director. But this was definitely fun.

TVG: Speaking of fun, now that the TV season is winding down for you, any summer plans?
Rosenbaum: Yeah, I'm going to Cabo [San Lucas, Mexico] with my friends — and I'm invited to George Lucas' ranch [in Northern California] for a screening of the new Star Wars.

TVG: What?!
Rosenbaum: I was at this AIDS charity event and all of a sudden, there's George Lucas. And he's pointing in my direction. Oh my god, he asked me to come over. So I go, and he says, "Hey, my daughter's a big fan of your show and she makes me watch it. I think it's pretty good."

TVG: Oh man...
Rosenbaum: You have no idea! I am the biggest Star Wars geek! Then he said, "You should come to the ranch sometime." So I [did]! He signed my Star Wars poster, I watched him edit, he showed me some of the movie. Then he showed me a picture of his dog, the real Indiana Jones. We went into this warehouse and saw all of the original props... all the original artwork. I was in heaven. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me.

that smirk at the end of the episode...lead sme to think something happened when Lex came together. The evil Lex is the lex in the comics, the one that will come about when Clark becomes Superman.

Lex is more like anakin than anyone thinks. We are gettinessentially the PT of the story. We know where Lex ends up, but we want to see his fall to evil LEx.

Something tells me that evil Lex is coming back, or in more control than he was before,

I wish they'd hire some writers who actually know the Superman mythos, at least to the point where they don't invariably screw it over like they've done the past two seasons.

Ah well, I don't even know where to start complaining. But the Kryptonite Ring that Lex had in this past episode was a nice homage.

Batman on Smallville!
A special preview of this summer's "Batman Begins" movie will air during the 90-minute season finale of Smallville on May 18.

Here's the WB's official press release:

A SPECIAL 90-MINUTE “SMALLVILLE” SEASON FINALE EVENT WILL FEATURE THE WORLD PREMIERE OF AN EXCLUSIVE EIGHT-MINUTE SPECIAL FOOTAGE PREVIEW OF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SUMMER FILM “BATMAN BEGINS”

Two DC Comics legends, Clark Kent and Batman, will unite on Wednesday, May 18 (8:00 p.m. ET) as The WB presents the world premiere of an exclusive eight-minute special footage preview of the highly anticipated theatrical release BATMAN BEGINS, which will air within the 90-minute presentation of the season finale of the network's hit drama, SMALLVILLE.

“This is a great night for fans of the two most popular superheroes in the history of American Pop Culture,” said David Janollari, President of Entertainment at The WB. “Fans of SMALLVILLE will not want to miss this special extended version of what will be the series’ best-ever season finale. Broadcasting exclusive footage of the summer's most anticipated feature film, BATMAN BEGINS, makes this a very exciting night for us and a natural fit for the fans of SMALLVILLE.”

“We are thrilled to share this exclusive preview of BATMAN BEGINS with fans of SMALLVILLE,” said Dawn Taubin, President of Domestic Marketing, Warner Bros. Pictures. “Not only does this special event bring together two seminal American superheroes, but both SMALLVILLE and BATMAN BEGINS give fans the opportunity to delve deeper into the mythology behind their heroes. May 18 promises to reveal exciting new chapters in the history of these legends, and kick off a summer that fans will never forget.”

SMALLVILLE'S 90-minute season finale is packed with murder, betrayal and an unforgettable graduation day for all.

“Superman and Batman have always been inextricably linked to each other, so it seems fitting that a show chronicling the Man of Steel's youth give you the first look at the birth of the Dark Knight,” said Al Gough, executive producer, SMALLVILLE. “Christopher Nolan is an incredibly talented filmmaker and we couldn't be more excited and honored to have our season finale complimented with exclusive footage from Batman Begins.”

BATMAN BEGINS, which opens in theaters on Friday, June 17, explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force of good in Gotham. The film stars Christian Bale as Batman, along with Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe and Morgan Freeman.

A Warner Bros. Pictures release, BATMAN BEGINS is directed by Christopher Nolan and produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Larry Franco. xThe screenplay is by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, story by David S. Goyer, based upon BATMAN characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics. The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

SMALLVILLE stars Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Jensen Ackles, Allison Mack, John Glover, Annette O'Toole and John Schneider and chronicles the life of Clark Kent as a teenager in the years preceding his emergence as Superman.

Yes; the Bart Allen episode and the first episode of the season were probably my favorites (though why they didn't use Jay Garrick or Barry Allen, or even freakin' Wally West instead of Bart Allen I have no idea).

But the rest of the year has just been bad. The Mxylptlk episode was just a terrible choice, turning an Imp from the 5th Dimension into a bookie from Eastern Europe who can alter probability... what?! Who writes that? Why change the story? Same with Morgan Edge last season... you bring in a character who people KNOW is going to show up later in the comics... but you KILL HIM?! That turned off continuity fans. Same with introducing Lois this season. She's a hottie, but why does she have to show up now, and not later? Why can't they keep SOME semblence of continuity with the brainchild that gave them their main character? Huh!?

But I digress, I'm still looking forward to watching the finale, even if I won't be able to see it when it actually airs.

Character progression? Are you joking?! Sure, Lex is going a little more Comic Lex, but Clark's progression has been verrry lacking. Chloe's grown for the better, but does anyone really care about Lana anymore? She was just an absolute terror to watch this entire season, she whined and *****ed too much, and the whole "Lana's a witch" thing was very, very bad. Very bad.

Just get Clark to Metropolis (or wherever), get Lana off the show (Lois too, she needs to be his future, not his present), bring back Pete, and make Lex bad.

And no more "freak-of-the-week", PLEASE!

Yeah, I have. There's absolutely nothing in the comics about any "stones". They don't show up anywhere in Superman mythology; not the Golden Age, not the Silver Age, not the Modern Age.

The database for Superman's knowledge of Krypton and the universe is found in the Kryptonian artifact known as the Eradicator, which created his Fortress of Solitude. Not a bunch of silly stones that his super-daddy traveled through time to place around the globe.

It still hinges on whether that spoiler pans out or not. Typically Kryptonsite is very good with it's spoiler accuracy numbers, but something might change between them and now.

We all know that the movies are the future, so we won't be seeing him yet...as he he appears when Clark is superman.

If the spoiler is true, it will be a HUGE improvement of the story of last season.

As much as I think Lois is fun and really hot...they kept her in too long. Anyone agree?

Lois is really hot and man o man do I want to see more of her. I agree. What they should do is, have her get a job at the newspaper in the beginning of the season.

I really don't think this series was meant to be a prequel to the Superman movies. After all, barring Lois getting amnesia, it seems hard to believe she wouldn't recognize the name Clark Kent from Smallville, when first introduced to Clark in Superman.

It's called an homage. Plus, the first time they ever played it was when Christopher Reeve showed up as Dr. Swann, so it's obviously an homage. For one, the music is iconic, you recognize it as the Superman theme. Second, DC owns the rights to the music, so they can play it on any of their Superman properties if they want to.

But it's definitely not a precursor to the films. The continuity is all wrong.

Mann
07-09-2005, 10:14 PM
The first time they played it was before Reeve was there.

But even if its a homage to superman in general, then why would they use it in a series that has nothing to do with the films? The way they did Batman, but used a different score in the new series. Batman the TV show uses the movie's theme as well, even if its continuity is off. Star Wars uses character and plotlines in their novels that are messed up in the continuity of the PT.

Thing is, they just had too many ideas and neede dto spied up the show. Intorducing Lois did that, even if it subjects the show to a plot problem.

Count Dookie
07-09-2005, 10:50 PM
I don't see how Smallville is a prequel either. I think it is just a different spin on Superman. I agree that if it were a prequel then Lois would not be in the show.

Nope, just a different version of the character that's all.

Also, I don't have a problem with Zod being in the show. I think most people watching the show don't believe that the movies and the show are in anyway connected so it should not pose a problem.

Plus, people who are fans will enjoy seeing another reconigzable character.

I do have to agree that this last season basically sucked. I can only hope they pick up the ball next season.

Season Four, as a whole, was definitely the weakest season of Smallville yet. The only decent episodes were "Crusade" and "Commencement", and maybe "Run" (though they should've used one of the more popular Flashes, and not Bart Allen). The Lana-witch storyline was useless, Jason and Genevive Teague were terrible, and Lionel Luthor would've been better suited to stay good for the whole season.

I'll probably still get the DVD... for Christmas. I still need to get Season 3 (which wasn't that much better than Season 4).

Seasons 1 and 2 are still the gold standard for this show, surprisingly. Normally the first two seasons of a show are considered weaker than the ensuing seasons. But the writers of this show haven't stepped up the quality at all. Sexing up the show was really a bad idea, as well as getting away from established continuity on several characters.

I'd much rather pick up Enterprise Season 4.

The fourth season was, by far, the strongest of the series. That's the thing with Star Trek; usually the first and second seasons are par for the course, with the second usually hitting a low level, then the third season picks up slightly, and then the show takes off with the fourth season. Look at The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Same with Enterprise, but it was unfortunate that they cancelled it after the fourth season.

I think with Brainiac showing up It's a great idea, I also think Smallville is using some of(Superman : The animated series ) version of Brainiac too, along with The comic book version as well.

I'm betting Brainiac is in that Black Ship (That seem's to have been traped in that Hugh Kryptonite meteor) . and if that's true, Brainiac came from Krypton.(like in the animated series.)

As long as the Aquaman that shows up is named Arthur or Orin Curry, I'll be cool. Still think it's a joke to bring him on, but let's at least stick to some continuity. If his name is Garth, I'll just hit something.

Next they'll bring in Tim Drake as the future Batman. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Aquaman is the worst idea for a movie hero...and those fans of the show Entourage KNOW why.

I like Aquaman a lot (and I think they could make a very good Aquaman movie) but I don't understand why a teenage Aquaman would be going to Kansas. That is just ridiculous.

I think the point of having it be Aquaman though is to laugh at Hollywood for wanting to make EVERY comicbook movie they can. Looking at the Costume, the actual concept...its a horrible idea! Its funny that they get James Cameron on the show to be the director...like he would even go near this movie.

But Entourage is one of the funniest shows on TV. The Comiccon thing was perfect.

But I predict the movie sinks ( no pun intended) on the show, and that becomes the problem in Season three.

Back on topic: Aquaman in Kansas? A little far from...the ocean!

Justin

That was my point. However I disagree with you about Aquaman. I like his costume and he has a cool story. Plus Mann, what are you talking about? What movie? And as far as I know Smallville will be in its fifth season next year, right?

Mann

Justin,

I'm talking about Entourage, in which the running gag on the show is that Aquaman would be a horrible movie to do. They are actually going through with it (Read what me and James T. talked about earlier).

The thing is that the show picked the worst character in comic history to make a movie about. Why? cause for one that costume would not work. Its really flamboyant and kind opens itself up to being a homosexual icon.

And Season Three was another reference to Entourage. Yes Smallville will be in its fifth Season (and should have ended there, scratched the Witch stoyline and had Clark go off to Metropolis U and Leave Smallville.).

I see. I think you are wrong about the costume, however. I think Aquaman has a cool costume, and it's supposed to be Atlantean clothes, not just some suit he makes because he decides to be a superhero.

Aquaman came about because they got turned down on any storyline with Batman or Wonderwoman(the writers first choices).I agree what the heck is aquaman doing in Kansas?Mann that pic is hilarious.I prefer the Aquaman with the hook hand.

Well I completely disagree. I think Aquaman has a cool costume and I think it would translate well to film. Also keep in mind that his costume is Atlantean, it's from a completely different society. It's not just something someone decided to wear when they decided to become a superhero, like Spider-Man did.

Mann
08-14-2005, 03:15 AM
Where the costume is from doesn't make it work so well. Making it a movie means merchandising...and people will NOT be swiping the Aquaman costumes form the shelves.

Just saying his costume looks a little too suggestive for my taste. and the Entourage Costume they showed was ever worse (though I await the actual costume on the show).

Justin
08-14-2005, 03:26 AM
I don't understand how Aquaman's costume is at all "suggestive." He wears a scaled shirt and long pants and gloves. It's simple and there is nothing "gay" about it. If anything it's one of the more conservative superhero costumes.

And anyway, who are the people who run out and buy superhero costumes? Mostly kids. They don't have the same hang-ups that you do. Rarely adults who are going to costume parties. I don't see how Aquaman's costume is any worse to wear for Halloween than any other superhero's.

You don't really know much about Aquaman other than what you've heard other people say, do you? And maybe Superfriends, right? In my opinion (and many others' as well, especially those who are actually familiar with the character) Aquaman is a great character with a cool costume.

Again you are mistaking your personal opinion for fact.
