Do you mean the animated series? Yeah, logically, you'd think they'll include it on the E3 DVD when that's released. However, I heard that they're doing another set this next fall, so they may just release a single DVD with both "seasons" after their out, like they did with the Beneath the Dome mockumentary.

Actually I would say there's no chance of that at all. (And that's not necessarily a bad thing, because Clone Wars could be released on dvd much sooner than that)
I'm sure they plan for the Episode 3 dvd to be pretty much the same as the Ep 1 and 2 dvds, in terms of the look and content and quality. The more they put on the disk, the lesser the quality.
All the episodes combined add up to about an hour and a half, that takes up alot of disk space. So it would have to be released separately on it's own disk.
There's no official plans yet, but there will probably a dvd released with all 20 episodes (or more depending on if they do decide to extended the series) of the Clone Wars, eventually.

I thought it was 10 3-minute episodes. So, unless I'm doing my math wrong, that's only 30 minutes. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

Actually, they were each a little over 3 minutes (~3.5 min.) each and at 3.5x20, that's about 70 minutes total. So that's where I think he was getting that number. I was going to jump in there with that comment yesterday too until I rethought it. Make sense? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Darth Vegas
02-12-2004, 11:47 AM
Yeah that might be a bit more accurate, although I do not believe that all of the episodes clock in at exactly 3 minutes.
Also next ten eppies air next month Luvinna, and they have talked about maybe doing more of them.
Plus I'm sure they would want there to be some special features on any Clone Wars dvd they might produce, they already have commentaries.
Add also the fact that the toons aren't really related to Episode 3 much at all....
Just saying, the Episode 3 dvd isn't a likely place for the Clone Wars.

I would bet money that they will release it seperatly. Why? Because it was a popular series, and it being a seperate release will generate more cash. They did it with the R2D2: Beneath the Dome mockumentary.

Hey, quick question:
Is Clone Wars going to be released on DVD at any
point? I have missed every single episode!
Sabrina Fried
04-11-2004, 11:02 PM
Hey Thrawn,
no official word yet from the Powers That Be at LFL, but I'm betting/hoping it will, since I am having trouble keeping up with the schedueling of new episodes myself. If you live in the States you can actually watch Clone Wars at the Official Site. non-Hyperspace members can watch a small screen version, while Hyperspace members get access to a larger version and some other assorted things. (or so I am told. As a non-Hyperspace member Canadian I can't watch any of it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif)
If you are not in the states and are in one of the countries where a station IS showing it, keep an eye on your local listings. I know most of the stations are planning marathons at some point in the future.
If all else fails...um....well, those *ARE* the legal options...but I am sure like the holiday special the Clone Wars cartoons will kick around for quite some time yet in their own way *cough*bootlegs*cough*

To watch them from cartoonnetwork.com you have to live in the US. Outside the US you can download them from some sites. The Clone Wars will probably come out on DVD sometime around when the Classic Trilogy is released.

Clone Wars, Droids and Ewoks Headed to DVD
Sun, Jul 25, 04 03:27:18 AM EDT
TV Show on DVD is reporting that The Clone War cartoon, the Ewok movies and the Droid cartoons are all headed to DVD this year from Lucasfilm. Here's a clip of their coverage:
In a 2 hour presentation, Steve Sansweet, Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm, announced that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment would bring the animated Droids Adventures to DVD later this year. The series, which premiered in 1985, only ran for 15 episodes.

I can see them putting Clone Wars out on DVD but i just dont see a fan base at the right age to watch some dated 80's cartoons. The fans that are at the age that they might be interested in them, wouldnt have ever heard that they exist.

Yes it's true, it was posted on Starwars.com (http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace/member/kessel/f20040720/indexp6.html) Saturday along with all the other Comic Con stuff but apparantly fell under some people's radar, what with the title announcement and all.

It's true, it was announced during the Star Wars Spectacular at Comic-Con. From my notes, paraphrased from the presentation:
"There will be three box sets available: On consisting of the Droids cartoon series, one of the Ewoks cartoon series and one of the Ewok live-action movies. They should be out in time for the Christmas gift giving season."

hello, first post of many....
any idea when these dvds are likely to hit i've heard that they are due before the sw DVD box set...?
as for being unpopular - these will fly out - especially as they will tie in with the OT release on DVD...
as Gollafett said - you only need to stick the words Star Wars on anything and people will buy it...
they wont be as popular as the OT on DVD but hell most people don't even own the videos of these 'spin offs' - so to own a cleaned up DVD will be super special

I am excited about this release, but I'm hoping for a little more care than was shown to the Ewoks/Droids/Ewok Adventures DVDs released this fall. We know the commentaries exist, so those are a given. I would be very surprised if there was not some concept art and/or a documentary as well.
I would also like to see a "Play All" feature that runs the entire hour with no titles in between the chapters. Fans should be able to see it either as one long story or in separate pieces as it was originally aired.

speakin of clonewars stuff, hyperspace members canget a preview of the 5 episodes coming in march. there are 33 pictures, and IMO the drawing is a little worse. its got some jedi fighting some wierd monsters and the like, shots of some ships (one looks alot like a Chiss Clawcraft to me), some wookiee (that look dreadful IMO), some strange creatures, a bunch of tall jawa type dudes all chained up walking like they are captives, shots of padme, anakin, obi-wan, clonetroopers, some wierd looking weapons including what i think are quarrens on a snail like thing, c-3po (looks dumb IMO) group shots of some people, Deppa Bibla (or whatever her name is) with some cleavage for some reason, a really dumbass pirate looking Even Piell (sp?), a really dumb looking atmospheric fighter that we saw in AOTC with a really stupid design. thats about it. i think the art in this is even worse than the first 20 eps, but its probably not final, so who knows.

They are, but there are some changes. I noticed at least two. First, they flip-flopped the order of chapters 4 and 5, so now we leave Muunilinst after the ARC Trooper mission and head for Mon Calamari, then head back to pick up Durge's introduction before going to see Ventress/Dooku. Originally, the first segment on Muunilinst went all the way through Durge's intro, then we moved to Mon Cal and straight to Ventress/Dooku.
Also, there's at least one poorly-added transition. Whereas Chapter 2 originally started with Obi-Wan entering the room to talk to the ARC Troopers and then they dropped out of hyperspace and showed the cruisers in space, we now see a shortened, but identical, version of the hyperspace exit immediately between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, so it goes: Chapter 1; cruisers briefly; Obi-Wan talks to ARCs; cruisers exit hyperspace (again?); then continues onward.
Some of the segments merge seamlessly, though, like the Ventress/Dooku bits, the stuff on Ilum, and the final few with Anakin/Ventress. Those are beautiful put together.

Yes, what did GL have to say?
Nathan Butler
03-21-2005, 02:03 AM
Well, GL doesn't appear on either of the commentaries. Both are just Tartakovsky.
The BTS featurette is the one we already saw on Comedy Central (I believe it was) ages ago.
Lucas only shows up in Bridging the Saga. He opens up just by saying that the Clone Wars have a lot of opportunities for adventure, but in the films, we never actually see it, just start it in one film and end it in another. Lucas says he liked it because it has a slight anime feel to it, and he was very interested in moving into a type of animation they hadn't done, and Tartakovsky was very good at making that traditional animation / anime blending.
He talks about Season 3 by saying that it leads up to Episode III, but doesn't give any real details, though we all know what is must deal with after ROF and LOE.
And, that's all. It's mostly Tartakovsky, really.

First of all, I really liked Volume 1 for its great action sequences and characters. Also, I was happy to see that they decided to include extras for the first time on a Star Wars television DVD.
However, the extras were pretty weak. I liked "Bridging The Saga," the Hyperspace commentary, the ROTS teaser, and the artwork. The rest was just fluff, and I was upset that the commentary from the Cartoon Network site was only marginally different from the Hyperspace commentary. I would have preferred having the Hyperspace commentary and a second track that was recorded more recently with the DVD cut of the series.
Nathan's commentary is much more interesting, lively, and informative than the official ones, so chalk up another point for fan creations.
I give this one 4/5 stars, mostly for the cartoons themselves. If you want a Star Wars DVD other than the films, this is definitely the one to get.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>ANIMATION A-GO-GO! TWO NIGHTS WITH GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY
Presented in conjunction with Cartoon Network, Lucasfilm, and ASIFA-Hollywood (International Animated Film Society)
March 18 – 19, 2005
Moscow-born creator/writer/director Genndy Tartakovsky parlayed a lifelong interest in comics, cartoons, and cinema into an array of pop culture hits for Cartoon Network since graduating from Cal Arts. First came the comical stylings of a neurotic boy scientist and his bungling older sister in "Dexter’s Laboratory," then Tartakovsky swapped funny for the fantastical in the visceral action epic, "Samurai Jack." Those renowned gigs—along with directing/producing stints on other cartoon staples like "The Powerpuff Girls"— netted the attention of George Lucas, who fulfilled Tartakovsky’s boyhood dreams, awarding him the chance to fill the void between EPISODES II and III with "Star Wars: Clone Wars," an animated supplement to the seminal sci-fi franchise. Tartakovsky has since begun his transition into features and is currently toiling away on a few pet projects. This two-night mini-tribute will feature everything from student films to sneak peeks at future projects, as well as a hearty helping of classic cartoons by some of Tartakovsky’s animation heroes. Genndy Tartakovsky will appear for an extended discussion each night.
This two-night mini-tribute will entail everything from student films to advance looks at future projects, as well as a hearty helping of inspirational material, comprised of shorts and clips.
Series Compiled by Jon M. Gibson and Dennis Bartok.
Special Thanks to: Cartoon Network; LucasFilm.

Genndy Tartakovsky Tribute – Program #1
Encompassing many of his early, short works—including rarely seen, unreleased ditties from his days at Cal Arts, like "Changes," the basis for "Dexter’s Laboratory"—this first night chronicles Tartakovsky’s evolution as a filmmaker. Then, samplings of the first season of "Star Wars: Clone Wars"—as well as the ground-breaking two-part "Samurai Jack" episode, "Birth of Evil"—will be washed down by a few of Tartakovsky’s favorite classic cartoons from legends like Tex Avery (shown in 35mm glory). No doubt, there will be a few surprises, too—some never-before-aired… anywhere. Genndy Tartakovsky will appear for an extended discussion after the program, moderated by animation writer Jon M. Gibson.

Saturday, March 19 – 5:00 PM
Genndy Tartakovsky Tribute – Program #2
Tonight’s clincher: the World Premiere of the entire second season of "Star Wars: Clone Wars," which Tartakovsky will have completed mere days before its debut. This second night also veers off the beaten path a bit to uncover the side-projects that have nabbed so much of his imagination, including interstitials he created for Cartoon Network based on vintage Hanna Barbara characters, as well as more inspirational offerings from the masters of animation. Genndy Tartakovsky will appear for an extended discussion after the program, moderated by animation writer Jon M. Gibson.

pick it up, its really quite good. especially since they are all back to back instead of in 3 minute episodes
the series also got me thinking about the clone/storm troopers. the lines are getting blurred for me now. there are the clone troopers marching into the star destroyer as obi wan's army with the imperial march playing!!!! man, they are supposed to be the bad guys without a doubt, now we have sympathy for them?? and i think they need to change the name of the imperial march if its from a time even before the empire!
But when it the second series coming out? that should be good too. does it match up with the book, 'labrynth of evil'?

Volume II/Season III has already come and gone on TV. It is currently viewable at StarWars.com and Cartoon Network's website.
Nobody knows when it will be on DVD. Probably later this year, such as around the ROTS DVD.
And it doesn't really match LOE. Without spoiling the cartoon for you ... there are two plotlines, one on Coruscant and one with Obi-Wan and Anakin on Nelvaan. The Coruscant plot covers many of the same events as LOE (Coruscant invasion, Palpy kidnapping), but they are depicted in a noticeably different interpretation. The other plotline has no relation to LOE, and in fact directly contradicts other sources, among them Jedi Trial.

Well the end of LoE depicted the battle of Coruscant a little differently. Different things happened as opposed to the cartoon. And in the book Anakin and Obi-wan went after Count Dooku on some planet, not the beast world thing like in the chartoon. Since the end of LoE and Clone Wars Volume II takes place at the same time, it causes a bit of a problem.

Just got it today, along with the second half of Volume One (which I watched after class yesterday until I decided to take a nap)...I agree, the sound really kicks on this disc! And did anyone else get a kick out of the THX intro?

This third season is better than I remembered but I think volume one was far superior.
Best thing about this DVD was the inclusion of REVENGE OF THE BRICK.

I hope they release the Droids and Ewoks complete shows on DVD sometime. As well as the Holiday Special, despite being quite horrible, it had its moments:D
Does anyone think Star Wars will relase some sorta huge DVD set with all six episodes/the clone wars/droids ewoks etc, kinda like the Matrix and Planet of the Apes sets?
It would be cool if they did this, maybe on Blu-Ray or something

I had heard that Lucas wants to pretend the Holiday Special was never made?
Releasing Droids and Ewoks in box sets would make sense, IMHO.
