The choir I sing with is going to be performing in Carroll, Iowa on Thursday, August 12th. I'm not sure when we're performing (most likely in the evening sometime), or exactly where (some outdoor amphitheater is all I've been told). I know that's being rather vague on the details but I'm sure I can find out more if anyone is interested. I'd love to meet anyone who lives in the area. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I'll be up in MN waving at you. I have no idea where Carroll is and I don't have a car, or I would come to see you.

I'll wave back, Blizz. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif And I'll be waving at JediKeri as I pass through Kansas ealier that week. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wave.gif
I haven't pulled out a real physical map, and the closest I can get with MapQuest is that it's in the western half of the state, maybe halfway between Des Moines and the border w/ Nebraska. But that's just a guess. It's this little podunk town of about 10,000, so it's not real big.

What's your choir singing, Luvinna?

I'll try to remember them all. We've only been learning these songs for the last two months, and we're performing them for the first time this Saturday. *gulp* Then two more rehearsals before we perform them in Carroll.
Not sure how many of these you'll recognize, but here's what I can remember. More or less in this order:
Next to Lovin' I Like Fightin' (some song and dance number we're doing)
Ain' Got Time to Die (a Negro - I can say that word, right? - spiritual)
Whoa, Haw, Buck and Jerry Boy (an old pioneer song)
How Can I Keep From Singing? (an American folk hymn - click here for lyrics (http://invisionfree.com/forums/The_Ramblin_Realm/index.php?showtopic=69&view=findpost&p=514188))
Though Deepening Trials (all I know is that it was in the first LDS hymn book c. 1835)
I See Our Zion (written seven years ago for the sequicentennial - 150 yrs - celebration of the Mormon Pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley - click here for lyrics (http://invisionfree.com/forums/The_Ramblin_Realm/index.php?showtopic=69&view=findpost&p=586598))
There are also a couple of solo songs and a small ensemble number and there's narration between the songs.

So it's a pioneer celebration?

That would be correct. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

We had a combined 6 stake choir do something similar a while back. My wife and Mother-in-law both sang in that choir.

Back when I lived in Utah, we did something every year for Pioneer Day. This is the first time in the four years I've lived in Colorado that we did any kind of celebration (even if it was just a stake barbeque with the choir performance - that got rained out and moved inside style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif ).
