Pepsi Cans

One of the best things they ever made for Star Wars, were the pepsi cans!
They never did them for ep2 in North America, but with this new license with Ftito/Pepsi, do u they'll have the cans again for Episode 3?

Tricon = Taco Bell/KFC/Pizza Hut = Huge Episode I Fast Food Promotion = One of the biggest promotional snafu's in fast food/motion picture tie-in history (http://promomagazine.com/mag/marketing_phantom_results/) = LFL considered not doing ANY promotional tie-ins AT ALL for Episode II, but later changed their mind and did a few = I have boxes of Ep I Tricon crap that my wife constantly asks me to get rid of, but that I hunted too long and hard for!

I guess Pepsi was happy with their results, but Tricon said that the Star Wars product actually HURT their business. And as a fan that collected all of that crap, I can faithfully say that the brunt of the blame should go on the shoulders of the store managers that didn't inform their employees of the nature of the promotion. I have since run into the same problem with a couple of other film/fast food promotions, most recently with the Burger King/Shrek 2 toys I was trying to collect for my son. If the managers don't take care of informing their front end kids of the promotion, then all it does is frustrate the customer and the employee. And that was the problem with the Star Wars/Tricon promotion. But Tricon just laid the blame on the fact that there was over-saturation of the market at the time when it came to Star Wars. A valid argument, but I was in those stores at the time of the promo and it was a HUGE style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/censored.gif mess.

When we went to harpers ferry I saw them on pepsi cans and mountin dew cans.They were on display and you could'nt buy them or else I would of got'n them. they were really cool!!!

I remember going to the Molson Indy in Toronto in '99 and I saw some concession stand was selling pop, and when they gave it to you, they poured it out of the can, this one had the Nute Gunray can, which was like 1 of 2 I didnt have, and I convinced him to give it to me, and he looked at me kinda weird.
So then I had to walk around the whole day with an empty can.

its great news that pepsi is back on board for Episode III - just bugs me that you guys in teh US get all the decent stuff

i had to buy a complete set of episode 1 cans off ebay - as we only got some european ones which are different, but only came in about three characters, granted i bought all variations, bottles, cans, boxes and the likes...i have them boxed upstairs somewhere...they'll be back out when i move style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif


i though the entire promotional stuff for episode II was pretty lame...perhaps with nothing to do after episode III Lucas will push teh boat out promoting this stuff

I had a bad experience witha 3-PO Episode 1 Diet Pepsi can on the trip back from Celebration 1 in Denver, CO... which soured the whole can collecting thing for me...
I had the pristine unpoened can in my carry on luggage... the can was in an outter pocket... when my bag went through the x-ray machine the bag caught on the frame around the hole and must have punctured the can... because when I finally got seated and reached in that pocket I found an almost empty can and a puddle of Diet Pepsi style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/barf.gif

thankfully the fabric was water-proof and the liquid didn't make it into the rest of the bag. Anyway... no more can collecting for moi. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thud.gif

they were scratch cards with prizes weren't they - we had them in the UK with Walkers, but the cards were with completely different pictures than those in the US...i know coz i was in the US when TPM opened (went especially for it) and bought as much US stuff as i could, i have loads of those Lays cards, packets of crisps, cans, Taco Bell premiums etc...thats all i did for two weeks eat in KFC & Taco Bell just to get the premiums style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

you dont have to drink it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif - i hate pepsi too but suffered for my collection - or just poured it away...after all they were very cool little collectbales which a lot of people did ditch - consumable collectables are great, pizza boxes, cereal cartons, crisp packets - mainly because 99% of people dispose of them and they are not easily obtained again....

thats true... i ordered a load of US cans from ebay, as we didnt get the set here, and i had them shipped without the pepsi - because

a. it was cheaper to ship

and

b. the coke will eventually deteriate or explode....

saying that though i have a full pack of star wars cornflakes and some unopened choclate bars...they must be well rotten now...need to check these out/....

its not as easy as that...most of the episode I choclate bars had characters on them....so i unwrapped them and then put them in cling film, because it was a shame to eat the choclate bars that were 'unique' images of episode I...and i bet not that many people keep them like that...

and to be fair - chocoalte goes off but maintains its shape and structure (unless open to extremes) and should survive in a 'preserved state' for a few years...

i'll check it out when i get my 'star wars' room study back in order in the next few months...they have been in storage for a year now...(maybe the mice have eaten them style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif )

Of course, but that is a mistake. Eventually the acid will eat through the bottom of the cans. You need to drain them first, with, like, a little hole. I'm sure there's somewhere to read up on it.

Depends… but the general rule is that for can collecting that the can isn't "worth" any more or less whether there is soda in it or not.

Well, about half of my cans are half empty. I noticed the stains on my shelf a few years ago. Before AotC. So about two or three years, I suppose. Of course, that's non-refrigerated.

I dont remember how long the cans came out before the movie, I'm guessing it was probably April, since episodes 2 and 3 both released all their stuff in April.

And on the official site, it lists pepsi and all the stuff on it coming out. I coudn't tell if it meant they'll be on the cans or not but I would guess so since it says its going to be on the packaging.

you could rinse them out with water and then dry them out...i did that with mine...no rust...(providing the hole is big enough in the bottom to do this)...its a simple task really...better than gooey liquid

The little words were part of some contest. My friend Erin and I collected the cans obsessivly (my mum threw them out at one point, though) and we noticed them. I called a number on the Pepsi cans and they said that if you got all the cans and unscrambled the message, you could go online and type it in on the website or something. Try as we might, we never deciphered the code.

Since then, I've submitted questions concerning the matter to the Jedi Council on starwars.com but have yet to see any response... I want to know what the message was.

By the way, I tried draining my cans with a pinhole at the bottom, and it didn't leak at all. I had to siphon all my pop out with my mouth. 23 CANS worth! It's a miracle I don't have tooth decay!

I still have a few extra Darth Maul cans, but they're wrinkled at best, so I'll just dump them at Walmart for some extra merchandising cash.

Okay, I just bought the Mountain Dew and Pepsi "Call Upon Yoda" boxes (got a Pepsi Lame... I mean, Lime coupon from the MD box on the website.... yay.), and... um...

... no character images on the cans this time? I'm at once relieved (not to have to collect them or having to suck the pop out again) and disgruntled (paying that much for a prize code). Other than the 2 liter bottles, that seems to be it as images are concerned.

we have this ace 26 pin badge set - first four and album were given away at the weekend free, next 22 you have to get a voucher and pay £2.95 for each set of two badges...but your Gparents will have missed this by the time they get here

but i missed yesterdays badge - got the voucher - but the shops have sold out...but i should get it somewhere

its a neat set though

(if you collect magazines...or like mags with star wars on teh cover - tehre are about 12 different front covers at the moment - as i have them all)

but it is certainly worth getting Empire this month - which has a 'breathing' darth vader front cover) its seriously cool...plus a 50 page star wars feature...

Total Film is also worth getting...i'd ask them to pick up some decent British Film Mags with SW on the cover...coz they are great...
