View Full Version : Recast the Original Trilogy
Hey all, let's pretend GL is going to completely redo the Original Trilogy when he gets done with the Prequels. Who would you cast as the main characters? Leave Ewan as Obi-wan? What actor and actresses currently out there would be Luke, Han and Leia? Who would be Tarkin, Lando and other secondary characters? Would Hayden come back to play the various small parts of Anakin in ESB and ROTJ? Could Ian bizarrely come back to play Palpatine in ESB and ROTJ? What are your thoughts?
Justin

If they remade the original trilogy, they should have the actors reprise their roles, like Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine. It would also be cool if Hayden Christensen played Vader. Maybe Temuera Morrison could return as Boba Fett.
How old will Jake Lloyd be when they finish with the prequel trilogy? Maybe he could play Luke.
But other than that, they shouldn't have famous actors play any of the main parts like Han, Luke and Leia.
Please, no one say Ben Affleck for Han Solo. I'm sure someone will, though.

Ben Affleck as Han please.

Wow, great post Teek (btw, this is my first post-very exciting). Anyways, this is fun. I always like thinking about who I would cast for such and such a movie if it was ever made. And while I would never want GL to remake the OT, I'm just doing this for fun. Anyways, here it goes:
Luke - Guy Pierce - he's still kinda small time (it could be argued), but I think he can do confused and naive for ANH (look at Memento) and then strong and cofident (look at LA Confedential)
Leia - Carrie Moss - also still relatively unknown, even after the Matrix and Memento - but I think she can do the strong woman thing and the icy stare really well - maybe not the hair though
Han - Brad Pitt - I really think Harrison would be too old to do it again (if he even wanted to, which I doubt), and nobody else does cool and suave right now that Brad Pitt
And for secondaries:
Tarkin - Cromwell...I forget the first name. Always does military people really well
Lando - Maybe Laurence Fishburne
That's all I can think of for now. Sorry for so many people from the Matrix and Memento. I guess I've those on the brain or something
Badass Leia
05-31-2002, 12:10 PM
I agree that the actors should NOT be that well known. I can't think of any off the top of my head. I think it would be cool for Hayden to come back though.
Jake Lloyd? No offence, he is not one of my personal favorites, but he may be a better actor when he is older. Who knows?

I agree with Leia, the last person I would want to play Luke if I were to recast the OT would be Jake Lloyd. What I would like to see is a hybrid between the kid from the 6th sense and Jake Lloyd play Luke, but I don't know who that would be. Who knows, I guess there are alot of unknown actors out there.

Well, my picks are all high-profile ones:
George Clooney - OB1 (if, for some reason, the great Ewan wasn't awailable); or Han Solo (Clooney does have some of almighty Harrison Ford's charisma and dry wit)
Brad Pitt - Han Solo, Luke, anyone - Pitt is a great actor.
Guy Pearce - Luke. Awesome actor.
..that guy from A Knights Tale & The Patriot - Luke.
Ian McKellan - Tarkin. McKellan even looks a bit like... "the original Tarkin"/sorry can't remember his name right now.
Hayden C - Vader. In my honest opinion, Hayden IS Anakin/Vader. I couldn't have asked for more. Anakin has a LOT of REALLY CHEASY pick-up lines i AOTC, don't let them fool you into thinking Hayden a bad actor. I think in time a lot of you will agree with me - Hayden was perfectly cast for this part, and he performs perfectly.

Yeah, I think I'm with Justin on this one. While we're at it, why don't we just ask Will Ferral to play Han, or Steve Buscemi to play Darth Vader? Ha Ha, That sounds good to me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

I think Orlando Bloom would make a pretty good Luke. Liv Tyler would be Leia. Han Solo would be played by Stuart Townsend. Keep Ewan as Obi-Wan. And keep Hayden C. as Darth Vader with James Earl Jones doing the voice.
Perfect.

I think the guy that plays Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG1 would be a good Luke Skywalker. Hey, and Richard Dean Anderson could be Han. The lady that plays Carter could be Leia. Throw in the Teal'c actor as Chewbacca. George could call it Star Wars SG1.

Chris Kitan(sp?) as Han Solo.
Rick Moranis as Luke SKywalker (wouldn't that be cool? He already played Luke's father...oh wait, that was Dark Helmet.)
Ozzy Osbourne as Chewbacca, and they wouldn't even have to synthasize his voice, he already talks like Chewie!
Rosanne Barr as Princess Leia, although she might not be able to fit into the garbage chute.
Horratio Sands (SNL) as Obi-Wan. *"Use the fork, Luke, shi+ man, what am I smoking? Ha ha ha!"
Mini-Me as Yoda.
Mr. T as Vader. "I pity the fool who don't tell me where them plans is! Ob-GYN, is that you, fool? Old man, you shoulda never come back!"
Robot Sitting on Toilet from the Conan O'Brien show as C-3PO.
Benny Hill as Grand Moff Tarkin.
Louie Anderson as the Miilenium Falcon.
Tommy Chong as Uncle Owen.
Eddie Murphy as Aunt Beru.
Micheal Jackson should play Luke in ROTJ, because its obvious you can't tell whether he's going to the dark side or the white side.
Pamela Anderson as Mon Mothma showing the 3-D Death Star plans to the rebels. "You can see here by this huge globe...no, boys, the globe projected over the table. You're staring at the wrong globe!"
Marlon Brando as the TESB space slug.
Chris Rock as Lando Calrissian.
Tommy Lee as a lightsaber.
Jennifer Lopez as Jabba. *Hey, I'm sorry, but they have the same butt!
Madona as the wall jack that R2 always plugs into. I mean, she's always getting plugged anyway, right?
Carrot Top as the Emperor. Hey, it could work.

Obi-Wan must be Ewan.
Luke - Ryan Phillipe or Heath Ledger
Han - Hmmm I like Clooney or maybe Hugh Jackman
Leia - Eliza Dushku (She has smartass/badass down)
Vader - Hayden
Lando - Will Smith would do him justice
hmmm, that's all I got for now.
BTW - I know this borders on blasphemy, but I don't think redoing it is all that bad an idea. GL could do it the way he intended, but he'd still have stick the majority of what's there already. If people would accept it, it could work. You may throw stones now :look:

Hmmm...nice topic, can't believe I haven't chimed in already.
Here goes...
Han Solo: I really like the Brad Pitt idea, but I'll say Billy Crudup (Almost Famous) or Aaron Eckhart (Erin Brokovich).
Obi Wan: Has to be Ewan McGregor, that's just too easy, sometimes the most convenient answer is actually the best one. But if you need someone older...why not Terrance Stamp? I know he did TPM, but it was a small role.
Leia: Liv Tyler might work, but I'm not sure she has enough fire so I'll go with Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks). Or maybe Selma Blair, or Julia Stiles.
Lando: Don Cheadle (Traffic, Oceans 11). There are no other choices for this.
Vader: Hayden, as far as when his mask is removed, well he already is pretty screwed up appearance-wise, so makeup should deal with that nicely.
Tarkin: Jason Isaacs (The Patriot), a bit younger than the original Tarkin, but every bit as sinister.
Luke: Damn, I'm having a hard time with this one. Shows you how much Mark Hamill was typecasted after SW, huh? Can't think of anyone else playing the part! Hmmm...how about Jude Law or Christian Bale (American Psycho) and i know some will hate this possibilty but what about Ethan Hawke?
Palpatine/Emperor: Ian McDiarmid, who else and why?
What do you think?

Brad Pitt as Han SOLO!!! , if that happened, the world would truly be a bad place.

Princess Leia: Judi Dench
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Geoffrey Palmer
Luke Skywalker: Boy George
Yoda: David Letterman
Lando: Spike Lee
C-3PO: Robin Williams

Boba Fett: Ted Danson
Jabba: Jennifer Aniston
Bib Fortuna: Tom Daschle
Admiral Ackbar: Jerry Springer
Tarkin: Burt Reynolds
Mon Mothma: Pamela Anderson

I think if GL created a new saga the parts of all the actors/actresses would be played entirely by CGI creatures.
Just think.... no royalties for actor's likenesses on action figures! :^)
Also the "Director's Control Panel" on the CGI software would feature only 2 control buttons: "Faster" and "More Intense".

Sarah Michelle Gellar looks very much like Leia. And she can act well enough.
Whoever suggested Ben Kingsley as Tarkin was dead on. He would make a very good Tarkin.
As far as casting Lando ... the line to use is "Hello, what have we here?" Imagine Denzel Washington playing the part. I can see him as Lando. Just think of every scene and line Lando had, and put Denzel in for Billy Dee Williams. It works.
I don't know about Ewan playing the elder Obi-wan. He would be too young, I think. He'd be excellent as the guy Vader chokes during the management meeting at the Death Star.
David Duchovny as Han Solo? Maybe, maybe not. I was thinking of someone who could pull off the sarcasm and the one-liners. That's important.
How about James Marsden (Cyclops in X-Men) as Luke?

Luke: This one is tough because it is the starring role of the trilogy. I never used to be a fan but the kid has shown me a lot with LOTR so I'm going to say Elijah Wood.
Leia: Keira Knightley. A handful of people have played multiple roles in Star Wars films so why can't she? Plus, she looks enough like Natalie Portman to be believable as her daughter.[I]
Han: [I]I'm a big Colin Farrell fan but I just can't see him in this role. Nor can I see Affleck in this role because it just isn't him. The problem is that Harrison Ford was so perfectly cast that it is extremely difficult to think of a replacement. I'll say Edward Norton just because I'm a fan and I had to throw him in somewhere. ???
Obi-Wan: Sir Sean Connery. Has been knighted like Sir Alec Guinness and is also a very respected actor among his peers and among the fans much like Alec was/is. There is no other choice that is better in my opinion.
C-3PO: Seann William Scott (Stifler). This IS the comic relief after all
R2-D2: Verne Troyer. He's the only really short person I can think of
Darth Vader in the Suit: Who cares as long as they can move around in it?
Darth Vader Voice: James Earl Jones. There can be only one. If he wasn't available I'd go with Michael Clarke Duncan.[I]
Chewbacca: [I]Who cares as long as they can move around in the suit?
Yoda: He'd obviously be digital but Frank Oz is still the one doing the voice
Lando: I'd go with Denzel but he has to be around the same age as Han and Denzel is too old so I am going to go with Cuba Gooding Jr.
The Emperor: Al Pacino. He may be a little short but that only reinforces the power he has in the dark side that a short, hunched over, aging man could overtake control of an entire galaxy. Plus, Pacino can convey so much power with his voice and with just a glance that he is perfect for the role.
Jabba the Hutt: I'm a HUGE fan of his work but, for the sake of humor, I have to go with Marlon Brando on this one style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
Admiral Piett: Tom Hanks. This is a no brainer if you think about it.[I]
Boba Fett: [I]Get a suit in which some movement is allowed and then toss Jet Li in there
Grand Moff Tarkin: Sir Anthony Hopkins would do nicely I believe
That's enough for now.

I would introduce the character of a sith Lady played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Something like Lady Vaderina. She would have a bunch of supermodels as servants of course.

Yeah, I never understood why, when Luke was taken prisoner on the Death Star, that he didn't just "beam back" to the ship.

I'll say Edward Norton just because I'm a fan and I had to throw him in somewhere.* ???
Jabba the Hutt: I'm a HUGE fan of his work but, for the sake of humor, I have to go with Marlon Brando on this one* style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
<div align="right">Quoted post</div>
Han Solo: Jude Law
Luke Skywalker: Leonardo DeCaprio
Leia Organa: Keira Knightley
Lando Calrissian: Jamie Fox
Moff Tarkin: Christopher Walken
Chewbacca: Peter Mayhew
Palpatine: Ian McDiarmid
Darth Vader: Hayden Christensen
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Sean Connery
Mon Mothma: Jane Curtin
C3PO: Dennis Miller
R2D2: Kenny Baker
Yoda: Frank Oz

Hey all, let's pretend GL is going to completely redo the Original Trilogy when he gets done with the Prequels. Who would you cast as the main characters?
no actors -- go 100% digital, computer-generated people & voices.

Very true!
Say, would you remember, who were some of the other actors under consideration for the role of Han Solo (c. 1975 or so)? Were they all unknows? Didn't Lucas have Ford in mind from American Graffitti?

Gotta get Keisha Castle-Hughes in there somewhere. Perhaps as Mon Mothma? I mean, it seemed to be a pretty big deal that she was to play the Queen of Naboo in Episode III, but then she only had one scene. One camera shot.

Not really. Lucas had Ford read parts to the other actors to determine who would get what role. As it happened, they thought he nailed the Han Solo lines and so he got the part.
Yeah, if Ford had turned it down, Kurt Russell would probable have gotten the role.

William Katt, soon-to-be star of The Greatest American Hero, might have gotten the role of Luke. And Lucas's friend and former co-star of American Graffiti, Cindy Williams might have gotten the role of Leia.

Im not saying that GL should make a remake; I am only asking who would you cast IF EVER there was a remake. So Im hoping that I would not be bashed for this and get answers like "I wouldn't remake it" or "Leave the OT alone." Even me, if I have to choose between the OT's old effects and a remade and ruined OT with better effects and hotter women, I would choose the OT's old effects.
So... here's my cast:
Luke --- Nick Stahl or Josh Hartnett?
Leia --- Keira Knightley or Jessica Biel
Han --- Clive Owen or Russel Crowe?
Obi-Wan --- aged Ewan or Sean Connery
Chewbacca --- still Peter Mayhew
Emperor --- if Ian could still do it, but Willem Dafoe could replace him
Vader --- bald and burned Hayden with JEJ's voice
Tarkin --- Wayne Pygram or Hugo Weaving
Lando --- Wesley Snipes or Will Smith
Wedge --- Chris Evans
Boba and the voice of CGI Stormtroopers --- Temuera Morisson
Yoda --- CGI with F. Oz's voice
C3PO --- still Daniels
R2D2 --- still Baker
Owen --- Joel Edgetorn
Beru --- Bonnie Piesse
Jabba --- CGI with I-dunno's-whose-voice
And for a bonus character: Mara Jade --- Jessica Alba or Biel or Katie Holmes? Shannon McRandle's not my type.
What's yours?

It's quite a challenge if you get picky (which I've decided to do). I've done some thinking and this is what I have so far.
Luke-Toby Mcguire or James Franco
Leia-not sure: Jennifer Garner, Hilary S****, or Kiera Knightly
Han- Russel Crowe, Bruce Boxlietner, or Richard Dean Anderson
Obi-Wan-Peter O'Toole
Tarkin-Brian Cox
Vader Voice-Christopher Lee or Brock Peters
Yoda-Andy Serkis
Lando-either Don Cheadle or Morgan Freeman
Palpatine-John Noble
3P0-Brent Spiner or the guy who played mouse in the Martix
R2-Minnie Me
Chewie-Shaq
Boba Fett-Vin Diesel
Mon Mothma-Allison Janney
General Madine-Robert Foxworth
Wedge-Michael Shanks
Lobot-Teller (from Penn and Teller)
I'd also like to see Jason Issacs, Paul Betany, Michael O'Hare, and maybe a few other character actor who I can't think of right now.
Christopher Walken as Tarken

I don't really think you could cast it better today. I honestly can't think of actors who would be appropriate, and I don't care many who were mentioned.
I wouldn't want to see big stars. The Originals didn't have big stars, though they became big stars...and only Ford remained one.
That said... The only actors I can think of would be Ewan McGregor (in lots of makeup) for Obi-Wan, and Keira Knightley for Leia.

How about do what Battlestar did and make Luke a girl and Leia a boy?
Erick Landrider

I've thought about that every once in a while. Like if the Leia was on Tatooine. I think it would be cool to see her as a tomboy. Watch her punch Han in the nose for insulting Ben,
Luke would be a more Bail like character. A well trained fighter, but a strong diplomat.
