View Full Version : ANIME: Who Likes Anime?
BlueSaber

I became obsessed with Anime about two years ago (It started with pokemon *Gags*) and now I have an unhealthy obsession with Digimon, Weiss Kruez and Angel Sanctuary.
This thread was started in the old Council by Evangelion who has since dissappeared. It's a place to post info about your fave animes/mangas and pictures too!
I hope this will be as popular as it used to be!

i love good anime, but none of that series crap like dragon ball z and sailor moon with the terrible voice acting and stilted animation. the only series i've found that i really like is cowboy bebop (i'm eagerly awaiting the film)...but i mostly like quality feature film anime like 'the wings of honeamise (sp?)' and akira...and... ghost in the shell, patlabor 1 and 2, roujin z... i must admit i got into pokemon briefly due to the charming antics of jigglypuff and team rocket, but that passed.

Australia's is sadly anime lite, but it's getting better.
Johji Manabe is my choice manga artist. He's responsible for Outlanders, Caravan Kidd, and Drakuun (which I will be annoyed if I don't find the rest of).
Tonight.. ah yes.. tonight. I've waited so long, but finally, at long last I get my hands on the Evangelion movie.
It's funny looking back. My friends and I realised not long after we knew the difference between anime and other forms of animation that our most beloved childhood shows were all anime, like Astroboy and Robotech and Technoman, etc, etc. Today the anim movement is still accelerating. I'm not sure how, but it's going to play a part in the shaping of society's image down the road. Just look at all the crazy crap that springing up on message boards nowadays, chibi- this and -san that.
DBZs not so bad. I watch new episodes, but I can't stand repeats. Serial Experiments Lain is a good series, as is Martian Successor Nadesico, and of course Evangelion. ... Yes, yes, not long now.... Cowboy Bepop is yet to air here. Most of the movies I love have been mentioned, but I'd like to second Wings of Honneamisai (sp?). Great film.

The only animes we have in South Africa are Pokemon, Digimon and DBZ (DIE DBZ DIEEEEEEEEE!!! *rips hair from scalp). We used to have this one called Lazenca that really sucked. The dubbing wasn't great and the voices din't fit the bodies.
Digimon absolutely ROCKS! We're on Season 03 here. Does anyone know if there's a season 04 in the making?

Fist of the North Star, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Ninja Scroll. I caught all of these on Sci Fi in England. They showed an awful lot of anime.
At the moment they have their own Japanese type show. I caught a few eps of Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't think I saw enough to catch what was going on but it looked pretty kewl.
I got hooked on Martian Successor Nadiesco (sp?)
I watch so much else I usually keep away from Anime, probably coz I know I'd get really deep into it and I don't have the time.
Anyhoo now I'm in the States I don't really know if your Sci Fi channel shows anime.
I've always wanted to see Vampire Hunter D.

vampire hunter d is awful. horribly overrated. the animation cell rate is like, pokemon quality.
anyone like princess mononoke? or...the castle of caliostro?
incidentally, if anyone is interested in purchasing some used anime dvds, i've got a bunch for sale. i don't know exactly how we'd proceed with the transaction, however, unless you're a trusting person.
does anyone care for disney animation? or don bluth? any american animation? or better yet, any foreign animation that isn't japanese? i actually really like the animation in that infamous boba fett cartoon (except for artoo and threepio's uncharacteristic movements) and that's supposedly french animation. anyone know of any good french animation?
BlueSaber

I like Digimon because it's more intelectual than Pokemon or DBZ. You actually get to see character development, unlike Pokemon where Ash just deosn't change. We learn nothing about him, Misty or Brock. In fact, the only good thing about Pokemon is Team Rocket. In Digimon, we learn exactky why Matt is a loner, and yet so protective on his brother, TK. We learn what makes him insecure (Especially in Cherrimon's manipulation of him. Tai goes from hard-headed clueless kid into a strong responsible leader. Even Mimi goes from being an air-headed mall-rat to someone who is sincere and caring.
But anyway, I also like Weiss Kruez, which is more of an adult manga/TV series. Not sexually though. It's about an assassin group called Weiss, who also run a flower shop as a coverup. They go after people like drug lords, people who use child prostitution and stuff.
Angel Sanctuary on the other hand, is very challenging to the way people think. Angels aren't that holy, demons aren't that evil, God has dissappeared and an angel has reincarnated in a boy who, incidently, is in love with his sister. It deals with murder, violence, rape, incest, Christians whould probably say blasphemy. It should only be read my open-minded people.
So...ja....that's what I like. Anyone else got a summery of their fave anime/manga?

Technoman had the Earth under attack from bug-like aliens (tried and true...) and the planet's only decent defender is this juvenile with amnesia who uses a crystal to change into Technoman. Eventually he discovers the aliens are responsible for his abilities, and that his entire family actually received the same powers, but they're being controlled by the invaders and he pretty much has to kill them one by one. That's the basics I think, anyway. It had a keen theme.
I have no idea what that show is you're talking about though. I used to watch Agro's Cartoon Connection until Agro started molesting Anne Marie, then of course it was cancelled. :roll: Cheez TV was okay, but it's running :censored: at the moment. Pay TV is where it's at. Thankyou Cartoon network!

ya - it was a pioneer in Space Battle anime and one of the first Japanese shows to be translated for America. I still remember the opening tune.
Robotech was more 80's, schmicker graphics and movement, little less corny. Also known as Macross - they've come out as films on the Kinseki label.

Actually, I'd say it's the most expensive form of animation - Disney can produce an equivalent sequence but not of the same intensity and complexity of the elements involved. Pixar's cg is pretty cool, but not quite anime. Akira took 4 years to make and they had to invent colours for it!
The new version of Metropolis is unbelievable - all froms of classic Speed Racer, Astroboy, Akira and Ghost in the Shell all in the one shot.

OK. More Weiß Kruez. (I have an unhealthy obsession with this anime)
Four guys, Aya, Omi, Yohji and Ken run a flower shop called the Koneko no Sume ii or Kitty in the House. By night, they are assassins hunting down people like drug lords, leaders of child prostitution rings. Stuff like that.
Aya Fujimiya: Aya is the second oldest member of Weiß at 20. His real name is Ran, but he took his name from his sister, Aya-Chan, when she was run over by a car by a man named Reiji Takatori who, incidently, is the boss of another assassin group called Schwarz (I'll go into them later). Aya is the pissy member of the group and rarely smiles. When he does, alert the media. His weapon of choice is a katana.
Omi Tsukiono: This is the youngest member of Weiß. He's only 16/17 years old. He's the hyperactive happy-go-lucky member who always tries to cheer people up (Hi. You look sad. Wanna flower?). his weapons are darts, crossbow or regular bow.
Ken Hidaka: He's the more naive member of the group. He used to be a soccer player before he was framed for stealing by his "best friend" Kaze. Ken was thrown out of the league and turned to assassination. He uses Bugnuks (bear-claw thingies).
Yohji Kudo: The playboy. He used to be a private investigator until his partner, Asuka, was "killed" (She actually joined ANOTHER assassin group called Schrient). He will try to get into the pants of any girl who is over 18. He may be an assassin, but he has his morals. He uses Gorette (Wire that comes out of a watch)
Here's a good site to view them,Schwarz and Schrient:

Some anime does have bad animation and/or bad dubbing. The digimon movie for instance didn't have the same colour depth of the series. Everything was pretty flat. Although Davis looked better. ^_^. Another series called Lazenca was on TV a while back. The voices just simply did not fit the boddies. And everyone spoke in monotone. They'd stare at, say, an oncoming train and say. "Oh dear. It. looks. like. we're. about. to. die. what. a .pity.

Ouh...for good measure, I must toss in Fushigi Yugi and DEFINITELY Rayearth.
I've been a fan of anime for years.
It all started way back when I saw "Battle of the Planets", however it went on with the watching of the 3 series of "Robotech" aka "Macross" (Japanese version, much better) shows. I also watched a crap load of Voltron when I was a kid, but I liked the vehicle Voltron better than the Lion one. If you've ever seen the vehicle version of Voltron then you'll know what I'm talking about, if not oh well.
I've seen a ton of anime though, and not necessarily all the crap that's been popping out lately. I don't understand how anyone could label DragonBall as anything worth watching, or any of this Pokemon ****. Personally I like the more enjoyable titles etc.
Here's myy list of must see anime for any of you guys who are actually interested:
* Black Magic: M-66
* Appleseed
* Gunbuster (6 episode OVA)
* Akira (newly re-released version, unless you want to watch my old vhs version that's subtitled, but you're not getting that )
* Bubblegum Crisis series
* Bubblegum Crash series
* Devil Hunter Yohko - Quite a few of these, they're hilarious, and interested to boot
* Ghost in the Shell
* Green Legend Ran
* Harmagedon
* Macross (any of them - if you're into Robotech then you should definitely know about Macross, and how Harmony Gold changed the entire Macross story)
* Moldiver
* Patlabor
* Plastic Little series
* Sol Bianca
* Vampire Princess Miyu
* Wicked City
* Orguss and Orguss II
* Blue Submarine No. 6
* Dan Cougar
* Battle Angel
* GUNDAM - One of the best series which has been *******ized by the Cartoon Network which is certainly worth checking out on IMPORT DVD is the Gundam series.
One of the reasons why you should watch these items on Import DVD is because of their subtitles and original Japanese audio tracks. When the Bandai USA gets a hold of Gundam for the Cartoon Network there is quite a bit of violence and dialogue that just can't be put on there. While the original series might seem a bit dated to some, it does have a fantastic storyline (this animation is over 20 years old, and it looks way better than that **** that turns up on Saturdays today), and it is quite interested once you watch it as a whole.
Other Gundam series worth watching are the 08th MS Team, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Z Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char's Counterattack, Gundam F91, V Gundam, and Gundam X. All of these aside from V Gundam are available on Import DVD, and a reasonably inexpensive (Their subtitles are great, there's no editing of scenes or dialogue - I get mine from Sundevildvd.com).
The God Gundam series (G-Gundam is known as the GOD Gundam, and the Dark Gundam is the Devil Gundam - Stupid ass Cartoon Network) - is totally lame as compared to these other series, and so is Gundam Wing. I've been watching Gundam Seed lately, and it seems to kick ass too.
* Urotsukidoj - Series (not for minors) - If you're in for a sick, twisted, wacky, explicit series then you should definitely watch this. It was so bad that there were parts edited by the Japanese. My best rating guess would probably be X - But there's quite a bit to the story. You'd have to read up on it before even thinking of buying it.
Just my two cents folks.

Another series that I absolutely love is Macross, yeah it's a little old, but it's a classic! I even got my girlfriend to watch it and she loved it. We disagree on the end though, I think Rick should have been with Lynn Minmae not Lisa Hayes style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unhappy.gif

Anybody know what happened to Ninja Resurection??It was a spin off of Ninja scroll, episodic, with a eye patch sportin Jubei. I only found two episodes and it faded into obscurity.
They made a sequel to that? I didn't think that they even did that. I remember Ninja Scroll - used to have a copy (don't know what happened to it). It was a fun film.
BTW, did anyone read my last post in this thread? I brought up tons of crap that was overlooked methinks.

I also recently saw the new Miyazaki movie, Spirited Away. Man it was weird!! But I loved it! It was great. A lot better than the stuff Disney is churning out lately (although it does have the Disney label, apparently they did the dubbing). I saw the subtitled version, so I can't comment on the dubbed one. (Whew!)
Okay I have a few things to interject....
1) Ninja Resurrection wasn't a true sequel, it was a title-ride from Ninja Scroll. What we saw was the pilot episodes and considering the fact that they flopped in Japan as well as the states we will most likely be able to shake that trash from our boots. The Jubei character is taken from a real character in Japanese history and is used in many a Japanese tale. The name "Jubei" was the only thing that NS and NR had in common.
2) Is anyone aware of the Ghost in the Shell TV series being produced by Production I.G.? It's being overseen by Shirow Masamune himself! The first episode has already been released in Japan and includes the Fuchikoma's that never made it to the movie. (Oh but for a region 2 DVD player and the ability to understand Japanese!)
3) And yes, the Cowboy Bebop movie IS very good. (I saw it in a theater with a friend who explained stuff as we went along. ) That's all I'll say about it though because I'm not spoiling nuthin' for the true CB fans.
4) Anyone hear anything regarding the American release of Final Fantasy Ultimate? (For those of you who don't know, Yes, it's an Anime TV series based off of the squaresoft games. No, it's not the one about the crystals, that's four episodes long. This one is longer, cooler, and *weak in the knees* oh god the art is to die for.)
Watch, I'm the only one who knows anything about this. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unhappy.gif *sigh* I've been in Japan too long.

Hey all!!! ^^ Long time, no post, new board... Things sure have changed around here. Well, it has been a year... At least one thing's stayed the same. Well, two things, actually.
Firstly; I LOVE ANIMANGA!!! ^^
Secondly; I'm still being thoroughly annoyed by BlueSaber. *Gives the other girl - who is currently singing the Imperial March backwards - a flat look. Dodges a swat.*
A~nyway...
*Waves.* Hi~, Eva-kun!!! You miss me? Btw, *Points down at sig.* XD Well, I did only really come back because a certain irksome friend of mine said you'd mentioned me...
But enough on that. I'm not obsessed with any one anime or manga at present, at least not official. As far as manga goes, I'm into Angel Sanctuary, X and Seimaden, and a few others. And anime, mainly Yami no Matsuei and Weiß Kreuz. I also adore Final Fantasy, especially VII, VIII and X. ^^ Must play the games sometime. -.-;;;
One thing I AM addicted to, however, is an absolutely fantastic online manga called 'Arcana'. ^^ All about vampires and harpies and such, and has GREAT shonen-ai. Lots of gorgeous bishonen, too. XP
Anyways, that's it for me for now, I think. Will post sporadically, when I feel up to it.

Hey Newsflash from Japan!
1) I was in a gamer store the other day, (yesterday) and they had a demo release of some new game titled Venus & Braves or something to that effect. It looks to be a sequel to FF: Tatics. Same character design, (Paladin looks exactly the same) similar music, STUNNING graphics.
2) There's some kinda big deal goin' on here about Neon Genesis Evangelion. I'm not sure what as I couldn't read the Kanji, but it had a picture of Shinji holding Rei in bandages (a la the first episode) and the only thing it said on it in English was Release January 2003!
I don't know. I just don't know.
3) The Cowboy Bebop Movie actually takes place between seasons. That's why Spike's in it. That's all I'm sayin'.
4) Has anyone heard anything on the US release of Final Fantasy Ultimate? (It's a animated TV series based on the game.) I just figure someone MUST've heard about it by now.
5) Has all the episodes of Fooly Cooly (FLCL) been released in the states yet? I'm dying to see the translated version of it. The ending is fantastic.
That's all I gots fer now.

Whitesaber,
I happen to own the entire Blueseed collection.
A couple of things;
1) Theme songs are nice and all but rarely ever can you expect them to be written to have anything to do with the series/movie/ova that you are watching. They're usually written and performed by the lowest bidder as a title ride simpely because A- the performer was cheap, and B- The Song's music fit the Anime in a very basic sense. Usually only big budget films really worry about theme music. Technically with about 180 bucks American you could kick off your own lowbudget porno anime. The reason why they're all so underbudget is because pirating is really bad.
2) Blueseed's storyline starts out as confusing but they actually do manage to make it all come together in the end. It makes sense at least. Don't expect a Neon Genisis ending, and the animation is weak at best, but the series made me laugh and the characters were fairly three dimesional so I enjoy it. Besides the Omake Theaters at the end of every episode make them all worth while.
3) No, I carry around a little translation book. (The Japanese have somewhere between three and five written languages, as well as different dialects with completly different sounding words that have the same meaning! Baka in the kanagawa prefecture around Tokyo means idiot. Go up north and the word is aho. (Photon the Idiot menace anyone? Now you know what the Aho power was.)
4) No, I'm almost certain it's not a hentai. If it were, Shinji and Rei both would have been scantly clad and in compromising positions. This was a fairly normal looking poster. I can find art-book with that material on a shelf close by however. Name your favorite anime chick and I can garuntee you there's an Art-book hentai dedicated to her. (If anyone names a Broccolli chick I start hunting for blood though.)

Which three anime characters would you most likely want to be/look like/act like? This is a question for everyone.

Actually, Digimon isn't that bad. At least the plot developes and we learn about what makes the characters tick. It avtually becomes quite enjoyable after a while. But Pokemon... Pokemon is plotless and boring. None of the characters have changed a bit since Pokemon first started playing in South Africa two...maybe three years ago. It's just one stupid kid named Satoshi who goes around in an always-whining voice saying "I wanna be a Pokemon Master!"
Gah. Can't believe I was once obsessed with it.
Whoa, I thought that this topic had died.
Well, Holiday Break this year gave me time to watch quite a bit of anime (quite a bit more than I usually do that is).
Quick reviews
* Finished up watching Noir - good series - it comes out on dvd starting this month, there's 26 episodes total, so it might be a while before they finish the run.
* Watched Turn-A Gundam - Entire series. My god what were they thinking when they made this in 1998/9? I can't imagine that they cancelled Gundam X after 39 episodes and followed it up with this ****e.
* Watched Evangelion (up to episode 20) - fantastic series, predicatable in early episodes, but once it started getting complicated it was good.
* Started watching RahZephon - looks good so far, but then again I'm only on episode 2 of it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
* Caught up on Gundam Seed through Episode 12 - Great stuff, especially from episodes 9-12
* Watched Macross Zero OVA #1 - It kicks major ass
Still waiting to get my hands on the remaining Eva episodes, I's OVA, the rest of RahXephon (should be done with that by Sunday)
BTW, if any of you guys are looking for some decent Gundam to watch (not that halfassed G (Look DragonBall) Gundam), you can check out Char's Counterattack this Saturday night on Cartoon Channel. It's about they only thing they have to offer right now besides dubs of Gundam 0079 and Gundam 0080 on Adult Swim.
Those of you who have the Action Channel can check out Bubblegum Crisis 2040 starting on Friday or Saturday nights in January. There's also very repetitive reruns of X (movie) and Sol Bianca (original). Aside from that there is an anime show on Tech TV which I've heard is nothing but marketing time. G Gundam is also running on weekday afternoons and nights again, but it just gets worse each time I see it. To think that they went through all that trouble to design some cool mecha, only to have it brought down by horrible repetitive Dragonball type fighting (haven't I said that already?).
Also, I'm not sure if I said anything about this before or not, but you can get some decent bootleg DVDs of some great anime series from the guy who runs SunDevilDVD.com. Prices are cheaper than conventions, and the shipping is very quick and reliable.

If you look closely, Darthy, Digimon isn't really for American kids. For example, on an episode from Season 3 (Digimon Tamers), they showed a scene when a couple was making out in the park. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/satisfied.gif
Then, Rika's naked?!? Well, sort of. The "covered up" naked(the scene was real bright). But still, naked nonetheless.
Digimon goes straight into the battle between good and evil, not some stupid kid and his idiotic hamster that says nothing but, "Pika pika!"
Aaaaanyways, Nacho, I've seen Bubblegum Crisis from the Action channel. My friends all freaked when they showed the naked girls, though. But it's a good show.

If you folks have broadband then you should try getting the fansubs from a p2p system. Japanese Anime in it's uncut, un-edited form is ssssooooooooooooooo much better.
I can understand why you wouldn't like American Dragonball - most of what they speak in it is bollocks, characters are taken out (where the hell is Lunch?), all gore is removed and the fight scenes are cut. Plus they changed Mr Satan to Hercule.

Eh.
All I watch anymore are fan subs. One of my biggest problems with anime now is when its dubbed. I used to look for dubbed anime, now I loathe it.
Too many errors, and too many deleted items.
For example - G Gundam - G stands for "GOD" and the Dark Gundam is actually the Devil Gundam. I guess God and Devil are too religious for Cartoon Network. With the G Gundam being named Burning Gundam, it makes no sense to have the series called G Gundam - they should have went ahead and royally f'ed it up and called it B Gundam. Still a crap show anyway.
The 08th MS team was edited when it aired on CN, so was 0080 and 0083. I'm sure that they'll murder Zeta Gundam when it comes on, and that's one of the best Gundam series ever.
If you're looking for fan subs I suggest visiting Aniverse IRC and hitting channels such as Anime-Junkies and AnimeOne, and Eny. I'm in Eny almost all the time, they've been ripping the Japanese EVA DVDs style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Cartoon Network is the DEVIL!
I hate what they've done to Anime. Toonami? Please. Tenchi Muyo was an Adult series, is an adult series and the next will be an adult series as well. (Yes, if you didn't know there is a new Tenchi Series being released.) But hey, Ryoko liked to run around naked and I ask you; what's wrong with that? Why must we put them in bathing suits? The kids don't understand why they're naked, and if they do understand they're already in Sex Ed so they're gonna get it anyhow.
I don't understand putting them in swimsuits while in a Japanese hotspring. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hmmm.gif(sigh)
White saber in regards to your question about Anime characters we'd like to be like/look like/act like or whatever?
Well, if in weren't for the fact that I already look and sometimes act like an American version of Mr. Fujisawa from El Hazard, I'd have to say that Alucard from Hellsing has got all the tricks I want, Sigfried of FF8 has the looks I think would work best for me, and well, I think Hibiki of Vandread for the last one, cuz he knows how to stand up for himself. (Besides that, the women he surrounds himself with are all within his own age-range.) You might want to look for Vandread Whitesaber, I bet you'll like it.
Strangely enough I've never seen Nadesico. Give me a synopsis Red. I'm still unsure of if I want to collect it or not.
And also dubbed isn't always terrible. I have a hard time with some of the fan-subs. I have a fan-sub of Your Under Arrest and I still can't figure out half the dialog because it a direct translation from the Japanese. And trust me Japanese is a confusing language! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eh.gif

True, True. I still prefer Anime magazines, and previews, and such though. Most stuff that makes it to CN is fairly dated. I have a rather outlandish desire to be consistantly at the forefront of the action. To me watching the Toonami version of an anime is like watching the original B&W Twilight Zone episodes in technicolor. Ya kinda lose something. I just can't tolerate it for too long.
Now Johnny Bravo, and Dexter's Lab? I can watch those all day. As immature as that sounds. It's just nice to relax the brain muscle once in a while .

I like N.G.E but I will always love the original Macross Saga! I have the entire Robotech Saga but Macross is the best. I remember watching it when I was a kid and loving it, then when I read it was coming out on DVD I was SOOO psyched! The ending is absolutely bittersweet, I always wished Rick stayed with Minmay style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unhappy.gif
Ah, you're one of those who wanted Hikaru to hook up with Minmay? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Are you aware that Harmony Gold took three series and slapped them together to make Robotech?
The first season was pretty much the same as Macross, but they altered the storyline. The second season was some other series, totally not related to Macross called "Superdimensional Cavalry Southern Cross" then there was "Genesis Climber Mospeada" which was the third season. Those last two series have absolutely nothing to do with Macross at all.
If you're looking for good Macross stuff try checking out:

Thanks Nacho Mamma I'm fully aware of that! And yes I wished Hikaru (Rick) would've stayed with Minmay. I also have Macross Plus movie on DVD and I absolutely love it! That should have been the next story after Macross, not the Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. I couldn't get into the Robotech Masters or the New Generation as much.
I've read about Macross Zero on the MZ website but I haven't seen it. What station is it on or is it straight to DVD?
It's not on TV now.
It's an OVA series from Japan. The first one was released to Japanese DVD (if i'm right) about 2 weeks ago or so.
If you read my previous posts there's some notes about BitTorrent. You can download Macross Zero #1 from there, it's subtitled (I recommend the AonE version over the AnimeJunkies version).

Whitesaber,
"It has often been said that the original broadcast of the ground-breaking television series ROBOTECH was a key factor leading to the current interest in Japanese animation. In the 15 years since it's initial airing, Robotech has remained one of the most critically acclaimed high-watermarks for animated science fiction storytelling. Filled with drama,excitement and high adventure,the serialized, multi-generational Robotech is just as stunning today as it was when it hit the airwaves."
For all you younger Anime fans this is the series that started it all! The Macross Saga is trully the pinnacle of Anime sci-fi story telling! And if you don't see this series from Booby Trap thru To the Stars you're doing yourselves a great disservice.
The animation is a bit outdated, but the magic of macross isn't in the animation, it's in the story! The characters are brought to life thru the story. You share their joys and their dispair. And the ending is the most bittersweet ending I've ever experienced. I hate and love it at the same time. Do you remember love....?
The only thing that may make you younger fans cringe is Minmay's singing, but thats just one peice of her personality.
GO WATCH THIS SERIES!

Has anyone here watched an AMV or two? AMV = Anime Music Video. Aspiring amateur video editors have taken thei favorite animes and set them to their favorite songs.
Try going to
www.aluminumstudios.com
I may have that spelled wrong, but it should come up under any search engine.
The webmaster and AMV creator William Millberry rubs that site and monitors his materials. He has some of the highest quality AMV's availible for download, as well as a link to webrings that will lead you to other high quality AMV sites.

Amethyst;
1) Whitesaber is correct. Shinji is not gay. He IS confuzzed about his feelings, as Koaru was his best friend and then he was forced to smite him.
Besides that, Koaru was an Angel, and Angels are (according to most beliefs) genderless. Koaru just looks[i] male.
Shinji is actually infatuated with Auska, Rei, and Mitsato, and chooses his ...er...preferance in the end of Evangelion.
2) You're saying Auska is your clone? Hmmm. I don't know if I could beleive it unless I saw it. I named my lap-top after Auska cuz it's a vindictive b1tch, too.
3) OVA/OAV~ As far as they go they don't really count for a television series over here in Japan. They're typically direct-to-video releases, y'know like Disney's Aladdin sequels? They're made by folks too under-budgeted to make a decent movie, but over-budgeted as far as TV series go. They're often used as PR to see how well a series would do if it were released on TV. Thus things like the Tenchi Muyo series.
4) ER. Well said. I couldn't agree more. ;-)

Well, I don't much like her myself... she's more than a bit brash, stubborn and egotistical, in my opinion, from what I've heard of her. And although I look like her and am German, I'm nothing like her. People tend to need reminding of that fact. -_-;;; She's like my evil twin...

BlueSaber, are you hot?
Amethyst, you have no need for that question. If you look like Asuka, then you are hot. Period.
Just thought I'd ask that little question... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif

If I understand you correctly, Amethyst (which would be a first time style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif), I think you'd like a scene from an episode of Cowboy Bepop. Venus Waltz, I think it was. Not the Sax-freak from Trigun I hope.
And Whitesaber, Red is quite kowai. (Not to be confused with Ko'waii)
And she's got a cool little pooch too!
Heh, My first Anime was Akira, Ranma 1/2; The movie, and Project A-ko, all watched in the same night. I was hooked instantly.
My mother wanted to kill me for it too. (Why does it seem that most folks over 40 have no tolerance for Anime??)
And what exactly is Homey-pretty? Is that like, G-funk ghetto booty or something? I've never heard the phrase before.
Amethyst, you have to admit that Auska did open a can of jellied whoop-a$$ there in End of Evangelion, though. Yeah, she's a stuck-up, self-pitying little brat, but she impressed me there, and up to that point I'd wanted to do nothing more but slap her upside the head with a blunt object!

If he's not a fruit then he's something else. Let's see...
* He was on top of a butt naked Rei
* He slept with Asuka, and did absolutely nothing when she was faking having a dream and tried to smooch him
* Asuka was into making out with him, but Shinji screwed that up
* Misato wanted him and she was always wasted, talk about missed opportunities
* He takes a bath, in the nude, with the last Angel, and holds hands with him, and then proceeds to sleep next to him? WTF!
Either he's a fruit, or the kid is damned dumb.
Looks like Adult Swim switched to weeknights and off of Saturdays:
12:00 Lupin III
12:30 Inuyasha
1:00 Yuyu Hakusho
1:30 Cowboy Bebop
Only reason to watch it would be for Lupin III, as it's funny, the rest is really uninteresting.
The only justice they've been able to do with anime is the following full runs, or movies:
08th MS Team - English version - some cuts made, subtitled would have been better
Gundam 0080 - English version ran, but the sub is way better
Gundam 0083 - English version ran, was cut a little, sub version just sounds better
Char's Counterattack - ran English version (subtitled would have been better)
Almost noble actions:
They could also be considered decent for running Gundam Wing (49 episodes) three times all the way through a few years back, although most of the Gundam fan community simply despises it (N'Sync with Giant Robots)
They also ran the much hated G Gundam (with the G standing for God, which was changed to Burning by the sensors) one time through, and ran it in portions twice at three different time spots
Unexcusable actions:
Failure to run the entire Gundam 0079 (or Original series) all the way through after starting it at two different times in two different time spots.
Cartoon Network couldn't get anything right, even if they had an answer key next to them.
On another note, Z Gundam (Zeta Gundam) is scheduled for release in the US this year. The series, which is 52 episodes long is by far the best Gundam series made to date (circa 1985 I believe). It is also the darkest Gundam to date. If it makes it to Cartoon Network expect them to cut the living daylights out of it.

I love Lupin III!!! It's so funny. And actually, I'm into Inuyasha. I want to find out how it ends...

Rob you now have the coolest avatar going!
LOL - I used to have one with just spiderman, that one was funny, until I found this one.
I hate when they muck up adult swim too, now I try to stay up that late, but it just doesn't work.
I wonder when they'll start running series like Patlabor, Macross Plus, Macross 7, or Noir on CN.
Would definitely help them out.
BTW - Noir DVD Disc 1 comes out this month, and Rahxephon Disc 1 comes out next month. Both US versions.
Rahxephon is like an EVA clone, but I found it more interesting because it didn't give you a headache after its ending.
Noir is the tale of two hitwomen, codename Noir. Excellent anime that is set in France.

I really don't know why they put those shows on so late, actually. I really haven't seen much to rate the late, late time slots. The only thing I've heard is language, and kids hear that 24/7, it's so commonplace now.
Maybe because they are "cartoons"...
Personally, here's my take on the late time slots:
1. Would compete with the crappy sitcoms and shows that are on networks, which would draw more attention to Cartoon Network, which would turn around and put pressure on CN for showing animated violence on an all cartoon channel, which would lead to lawsuits when someone does something remotely similar to someone else in someone's classroom.
2. It's impossible to show quality animated programming at an earlier timeslot. The closest they ever got to showing a primetime cartoon that was worth its wait in animation was Justice League, and even that's got spread out all over the place now.
3. It's not a Cartoon Network original, therefore since anime doesn't have its share of poorly drawn and animated characters that are named 'Beef and Poultry' then it's not worth showing. Other examples of bad CN programming include the samurai cartoon (forgot it's name, but it sucks).
4. It's not childish enough. Again, going with option one as seen above. Notice DragonBallZ and the others? Way toned down. Even G Gundam was edited to become more proper.
5. They'd stupid. Period.
