I picked up a HC copy of Rogue Planet for only $1.99 in a used book store. Any thoughts on this book?

I really enjoyed it. *It shows you how Obi-Wan's and Anakins' relationship has started to build. *Also, it started, or rather increased all the confusion going on in my mind about Vergere though. *And Traitor hasn't helped it any. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

One thing I noticed, or think, that I haven't heard anyone else mention, is that the destruction on Zonoma Sekot sounded, to me, a lot like the damage described on the planet Nirauan in Vision of the Future, only more extensive. *Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

And I have to say, O-B, congrats on finding such a good deal! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

I don't remember that about Nirauan. I guess I'll have to re read those books again. But yeah, Rogue Planet is a cool book.

I found it hard to read Rogue Planet. *I don't know what it was, but I found it boring. *It's only been recently that I found out that it ties into the NJO. *So I may have to re-read it because I don't remember much about it. * ???

Hm, Zenoma Sekot with ties to Nirauan.....I couldn't give an opinion either way, since I don't know their relative distance to each other...I think Nirauan is just one of those lost mysteries that we'll never know about........

As for Rogue Planet, it's one of those books where you like it immediately, or you don't finish it. It's not a bad book, I just found it weird to read in the midst of all the other EU and NJO stuff.......but, yeah, read it. It'll add depth to your Star Wars knowledge.

It Su-ucked...

Too slow to develop, Anakin seems to go a little too dark for his age...The Vergere side plot was decent...kinda ties one era to another. Overall, a boring book...JMO

Yeah, it was a little slow, but still a good book in my opinion.

I read it a while back, and I must say that I was in no way impressed with Greg Bear's style. He was extremely wordy, and while some very visible aspects of the Star Wars universe were present in his novel, I just couldn't visualize a lot of the things (especially the whole Zonama Sekot and Blood Carver stuff) as actually being represented in the Star Wars universe.

While some of these storyline points were interesting and some where important to future storylines *coughcoughnjocough* it was just dull. I wasn't bored, but the storyline was dull. That's all I'll say on that point. Peace!

It's been so long since I read it, but I did finish it. It was an ok book and, as others have mentioned, it ties things in with the NJO. I thought that was cool.

I agree with Luvinna about leaving me confused about Vergere. She's definitely a complex character.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I couldn't agree more. I just finished reading Traitor this afternoon. It's still sinking in.

Traitor likes to sink in like that. Slowly and gradually... I read it the day it came out, and I'm still analyzing stuff from it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

<<I found it hard to read Rogue Planet. I don't know what it was, but I found it boring.>>

Same here. It was really hard to keep myself from shutting the book and leaving it altogether. The Tarkin/Sienar portions were tremendously dull, and Zonoma Sekot got old, fast, with GB's descriptions.

The Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship wasn't done half bad, though, I thought. The characterizations were interesting. And I really liked the last few lines in the coda.

I started reading Rogue Planet, but I got so bored with it that I stopped. It just wasn't any fun to read.

The only reason I would recommend Rogue Planet is the NJO connection.

It's a very dull book with nothing interesting going on. It does answer some questions regarding Vergere but it also raises a lot more. Force Heretic should help a bit but as for RP, if you are reading the NJO get it, otherwise don't bother.

It somewhat made up for "Shadowhunter" making Obi wan look like a big jedi doofus.

Just finished it. Man, what a slow read! I have read worse, but the only reason I felt compelled to finish the book was because some others I've chatted with (see above) say they never finished it. The only good part was we got to read about Obi-Wan's struggle to be a good master and Anakin's struggle to control his anger and the bits about Yuuzhan Vong and NJO.

2 out of 5 stars.

yeah it was pretty wordy and it went into detail on things that really didn't have anything to do the the plot. I figure he just wanted it to be longer. The race part was good.

I thought it was pretty boring, especially since I hate Anakin. The whole thing with him exploding with hate and stuff was pretty cool/weird. Kinda DBZish if you ask me.

DBZish? How so? Were you expecting Anakin to go Super Saiyan or something? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

He yelled really loud, and the anger was boiling from within him. (The Z fighters use anger to gain strength)
Didn't it say Zonama shook or something like that? And something about stones falling. I haven't read it in a while, I think it also said something about Obi feeling the anger come out of Anakin. (The Z fighters can feel each other's power increases.) :look: style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I kind of remember that part. I wasn't thinking DBZ when I read that, but now that you mention it, it does make sense.

Yeah, it's a real snoozer. It was real hard to finish it, but I can proudly say that I am one of the few on this board to actually do so. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

(Okay, that's not something to be all that proud of, but it's something.)

I thought the book was really good. The second I grabbed it off the library shelf I knew I was going to like it. I only have one question though... How exactly does Rogue Planet tie into the NJO books?

<<How exactly does Rogue Planet tie into the NJO books? >>

NJO spoilers-----

Key things introduced in RP that are/become very important to the NJO: Vergere and Zonoma Sekot.
The upcoming NJO novel Force Heretic I: Remnant will deal with Luke, Mara, and Jacen learning about Zonoma Sekot. Vergere played a very important part in the course of things while she was alive - read Traitor and Destiny's Way.

I thought the book was sort of out of place in Star Wars, like some of the elements about Zonoma Sekot were better placed in a moer fantasy realm, like a LOTR realm or something. It was pretty boring and seemed pretty beauracratic to me. I read it for school actually and did a report on it, so it was good for a 280 out of 300. That's something I guess.

I read Traitor just a week ago. I don't remember Zonoma Sekot in that, Or is he in Destiny's Way?

Vergere tells her tale of Zonama Sekot in Destiny's Way, that was the only good thing about the novel IMHO

I thought the book was pretty boring. Not enough space battles and lightsabers for my taste. I do like how it ties in with NJO though. I cant wait till Luke and the Jedi find Zonamo Sekot. I wonder what the planet will think of Luke, or maybe the seed things that clung to Anakin in RP might still be alive and recognize Luke as having Skywalker blood in him. The next two NJO books are going to be great.

Exar D'an

The book needed to be included for NJO. Zoma Sekot has become a center in the Force Heritic series. Without Rouge Planet we would never have learned about such a wonderful planet, I mean a living planet. And, not like the Vong's planet that they artificaly give it a brain but a living planet not created by someone.

Soontir Solo
02-16-2003, 05:28 AM
Yah, I agree it was a necessary thing to help the NJO but the book could have been better. It went by very slow. It was kind of cool how it included Tarkin in it. We finally have some idea of what the young Tarkin was like, besides teh limited role he played in Cloak of Deception.

Exar D'an
02-18-2003, 01:55 PM
I agree with you Soontir it was nice to meet the young Tarkin and the book was alittle slow.

Soontir Solo

What does everybody think of Anakin unleashing his dark side power on the Blood Carver? A little too dark too early for me. I dont see how Obi-Wan could continue to train him after he does that.

Exar D'an
02-18-2003, 06:43 PM
But the thing is did Obi-Wan ever find out. But, I do agree with you, the outbreak of the dark side in him was way to early.

Soontir Solo
02-20-2003, 06:18 PM
That was just one of the things that made the book bad. Anakin should have had his lightsaber by this time as well.

Yeah, and Zonama Sekot was sweet. The whole living planet thing is awsome. Even though it has its drawbacks.(Like making the Vong choose the Star Wars galaxy.)

Zonoma Sekot better hold some HUGE secret in how to defeat the Vong or im going to be mad. They have set up a 3 book set here all about finding Zonoma Sekot, this better be worth it.
