Okay, there are only 3 Tie fighters that i know of. The standerd Tie fighter witch seems to be nothing more then a simple general use star fighter. The Tie entersepter, wich serves as a heavy fighter. And the Tie bomber i think the name speaks for it'self.

Then you have the wing fighters, The X-wing wich seems to be something like a heavy general use fighter. The A-wing witch is a light general use fighter. The Y-wing wich is another version of the Tie bomber. And the B-wing wich seems only to be something like an anti-capital ship fighter.

witch is better in over-all performance?

I heard that the Tie fighters, while they don't have the firepower of the wing fighters, are more agily then the wing fighters. So a Tie fighter could out fly a wing fighter.

I would say x-wing is the best overall cause it has almost the same speed as a Tie fighter and almost as agil but it has more firepower proton torps, and also sheilds so it can take a lot of dammage. The a-wing is faster than them all, (just to let u know)

I'd have to go with the x-wing too. Isn't there also something called a TIE Advanced?

Well my favorite is the TIE interceptor. Although the A-wing is faster, the B-wing(much slower)is much more heavily armed, and the X-wing (as previously mentioned) has shields and proton torpedoes, I just love the TIE interceptor. Also One with many names, you failed to mention Vaders TIE avenger.

I really don't know much about the technical differences of each ship. From What I've seen and read, I would prefer the
X-wing.

I agree. I just love those Tie Interceptors flying around and taken out everything in their path. Just wish they had shilelds and a hyperdrive. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tie.gif

My favorite is the Y-wing. It is as fast as the X-wings in Star Wars and I think it looks cool.

It's probably a draw between the TIE defender which is very very fast, more maneuvreable than a TIE interceptor and has 4 lasers, 2 ion cannons, and 1 proton torpedo launcher and 1 concussion missile laucher and the E-Wing which surpasses the X-Wings specs for speed, maneuvreability, fire power, and shields.

I like the Sith Infiltrator a lot. I also like the Star Destroyer Executor. The TIE Defender and the TIE Interceptor are both highly maneuverable and carry a lot of firepower. I also really like Vader's Custom TIE a lot too. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tie.gif

I believe overall that the wings are better than the ties. The ties are easier to manufacture in mass production, making them cheaper. And since the Empire doesn't seem to worry about the loss of life much, they can afford to lose the pilots anyway. The rebelion needs all the pilots they can get, and want to keep them alive as long as possible. The wings (x, y a ,b, etc..) are more expensive but come equiped with a shield generator, hyperdrive, armor, internal life support, astromech droid (for faster computer calculations), proton torpedoes, etc... Personally I would rather have sheilds, hyperdrive and all the rest, over a slight edge in manuverablity and speed. So I would have to say that on the average the wings are far superior.

However most of the wings don't have Star Destroyer equivalent ships backing them up. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

I've always thought that the Y-wing is fastest wing fighter, but can't fight other fighters as good as the X-wing A-wing or B-wing.

and please don't bring the Tie avenger into this, there was only one ever made. I'm talking about the frighters that were mass produced.

I prefer the TIE Advanced. (If you have no clue what that it, go to your avatar options, and click on TIE Advanced. Then you will know what a TIE Advanced is. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I'm reading the X-Wing books right now and I believe Stackpole designated the Y-wing as slow and less manuverable, but tough as hell with mucho firepower and Ion cannons. A-wings swiftest, nimble, turn on a dime. B-wings seem to be the "Utility knife" fighter with many possible configurations possible by swapping in different weapons and other components. I did not get the impression they were slug-slow (like y-wings), but not terribly nimble. X-wings seemed to be the best "all around." There are some faster, some tougher, some have more weapons, but X-wings are the best balanced of the group. I have not read anything with E-wings yet, so I don't know about them.

Tie fighters in general just seem to be the poorest idea ever. I think if you spit on them too hard they will explode.

Also, there are Z-95 "Headhunters" which seem like smaller versions of X-wings, but with only one set of wings. There are also Tri-fighters aka "Clutches".

I have not read any of the technical books, this is just the impressions I have gotten from the 10+ books I have read so far. Some may be off.

I am curious as to how good the Jedi starfighters were.

The Geonosian fighters seemed to be really cool too, and they must have had to have been somewhat powerful, they destroyed that Gunship with incredible ease.
