Hi guys, just wondering if you've checked out the leaked footage from the LFL marketing presentation? At the moment there are still working links up at Episode-X. Kudos to Too-Chilled for getting this up as it is awesome. Plenty of duel footage and looks at the characters, all set to ACDC's Back in Black. The duel stuff looks like we are in for a treat and Hayden comes across as very Evil. Very cool.

And where did you all see this?

jasperjones
01-23-2004, 11:54 AM
It was at the episode-x boards. Not sure if it will still be up but it is probably on Kazaa now. It's really worth checking out. The duel looks so perfect in term of intensity. And Hayden looks like he as nailed the dark side.

I love that shot. Best bit is where Anakin backhands Obi-Wan, knocking him backwards. He stalks him then just lrushes him, face filled with rage and they catch each others saber arm's at the wrist before their blows connect. One other thing, I know it's carefully edited footage but everybody seems to be having a lot of fun, which can only be a good thing.

the bit where Anakin's hanging off the ledge looks as though it's building of some sort...NOT a volcano

I'm pretty sure that bit is from the sequence on the Separtist Cruiser. Matches exactly the shots of the elevators and such from the Set Diaries and Webcam. It looked wicked cool. This whole leak is amazing. I am sure LFL will be furious about the leak... but I am also sure that this footage does WORLDS to get us all even more excited about EIII. I am even MORE excited about the upcoming Duel than I was before, which I hardly thought possible.

Did anybody else notice the shots of Mace fighting in Palpatine's office? Looks like there WILL be an actual duel there.

Also, it looked like what's his name, the Wicket Guy, was dressed up in some sort of Yoda garb at some point. Looked like Jedi robes to me.

This video RULES.

jasperjones
01-23-2004, 03:04 PM
Yeah, definitely the separatist cruiser. And Mace was gearing up to fight in Palp's office. BTW Carl over at CHUD says that the duel stuff is barely the tip of the iceberg. He says they didn't even go near showing the good stuff. Man it's going to be good.

Darth Darthy

No, its been removed as have all of the captures from the JC. That's why there probably isn't any point in posting any screencaps - they'd just be removed.

Grakkel
01-23-2004, 05:25 PM
I understand LFL's concern about this stuff leaking out. Primarily because they'd be concerned that the quality of the DVcam would perhaps get people disappointed and spread bad buzz. Goodness knows some of the SW fans out there wouldn't be happy with ANYTHING Lucas put out. All told, however, with all the positive buzz spreading from those who have seen this video, I would be surprised if there aren't at least a few people over at the Ranch who are perhaps just a teensy bit happy that these shots of the duel and such are getting such a good reception.

Another thought I just had - just who is Mace fighting with a lightsabre? The scene of him in Palpatine office cuts back to him rehearsing a lightsabre duel with an unknown actor.

Are we sure that Mace gets a lightning dose? Maybe he and the Emperor have a duel?

It was just a thought...

I was thinking that as well - I don't think they'd be droids but it could be the Forcepike thingy shown in Before the Helmet:

It's not a lightsaber, but the Separatist army has come up with new weapons designed to combat the pesky Jedi in one-on-one situations.

My question was how closely does Hayden's stuntman resemble him? The thought being that if they had some pick-up work, they may have stuck the stuntman in there. Cheaper, plus they can always CG things later if they choose.

It probably is Hayden.

More than likely a licensing issue is what kept "The Battle of Evermore" from backing up ads for RotK. That woulda been sweet.

And who knows, maybe GL and the marketing drones have figured out that stodgy doesn't quite cut it anymore. Course, to today's coveted 18-34 demographic, AC/DC circa 1980 may well BE considered stodgy. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif

If anything, it'd be a smooth move to court the gang of fans who've been with the saga since the beginning. Ultimately, of course, a good movie will bring them back in sufficient number.

18 years old or not, one would have to respect AC/DC in a Star Wars commercial. : )

Whoa whoa whoa....okay first off....awesome footage....I am digging the new evil persona and the fight just looks like it might be oozing some killer intensity. Second, now AC/DC is without a doubt one of the baddest ass rock bands ever, and Back in Black....yeah awesome. But John Williams' music for the end of ROTJ is simply underrated. I think that the "chanting" makes for an excellent theme. It fits with the darkness that I think a lot of people fail to grasp when Luke lashes out in anger against Vader.

i appreciate the mention. glad i could add to the gallery!

And AC/DC rocks. But even having said that, i'm not saying we should try mixing genres like in moulan rouge (pardon spelling) old song/new songs or new interpretations becuase it has never been done in SW and now is not the time to change things. i'm just saying take the passion of rock and roll like what you hear in AC/DC and mix that in to the score of the fight scene with obi and anakin.

the jedi music was very deep, and moving, but at the point of the episode 3 duel between anakin and obi, it shouldn't be the same tone. anakin has already fallen to the dark side. there is no forboding. it is over already. he is already lost to the dark side. so this music should just be fernetic and evil! fight scene music. like duel of the fates but faster and less chanting. like hard rock!

Seanakin

I guess if ya want the last SW movie to have a feel similar to A Knight's Tale, then it's a good thing.

Personally, I hope the folks in charge don't make the same mistake in trying to out-do themselves in terms of bigger battles and faster action. I don't believe it's why most people still love SW.

Yeah, their critics really dislike the Prequels, even though they do a lot phony coverage on them; having Hayden and Natalie on the cover a few times, having huge stories on the Prequels' release and then you flip a few pages and it's being totally bashed.

Empire Magazine gave AOTC five stars and voted it one of the best films of 2002! God love 'em. Take that Entertainment Weekly.

Do you guys think he's Darth Vader at that point, then? Near the end, when he's walking beside Ewan, Hayden's holding a red "lightsaber". It's at about 2:24 minutes, I think.

That's something new to ponder for a bit.

Perhaps the duel is his final test? Similar to Luke having to fight his father?

I think the duel will signify Anakin fully giving in to the darkside for the first time - the emperor will bestow 'Darth' after he's rebuilt and embraces Sith teachings.

Well, his first moment of giving in to the DS was against the Tuskens on Tatooine. He could become Sith after the battle with Kenobi, but then why would he have a red saber? He would have had to either change his crystal or construct a whole new saber. Either way, it suggests a conscious embracing of the DS prior to his fight with Kenobi. I would say he's already a servant of the Emperor. It would certainly explain the reason for, and the intensity behind, his fight with Obi-wan.

sure he let the dark side swell in him when he gutted the tuskens, and he'd be letting it grow in secret under palp's tutelage, but only when he confronts Obi-Wan, with the Dark Side as his ally, will he fully embrace it.

I don't think he'd be fighting him in the first place if he hadn't already fully turned.

By this point in the film he's become Palpatine's personnal guard - he knowlingly serves Darth Sidious, he's been involved in Mace Windu's death, he's killed several Jedi, some of them young padawans, some of them maybe even children. He's slaughtered most of the Seperatist leaders. He definitely isn't the good person he used to be anymore at this point.

My opinion is that althuogh he is certainly 'bad' by the time he is fighting Ob1, he hasn't been labelled 'Darth Vader'; I think it would make for a more dramatic rebirth if he were to be given the title only after the corruption of his body.

^ Ummm... no, he won't be Darth- anything. Actions make the bad person, not the name. I'm suggesting that he wont have been officially named with a Sith moniker, but will have conducted evil.
He will have turned to the darkside, encapsulated by his prior actions but also in his fight with his mentor. The audience now knows he is a bad guy, as do the characters in the film. He is, in all but name, a Darth. Only after surviving the fight (and possibly intercut with the birth of the twins?) is he-reborn into his iron shell and (at the same time) given the name: Darth Vader.

I love the idea of his "rebuilding" being intercut with the birth of the twins - really hits home the symbolism of rebirth and makes Kenobi's "certain point of view" regarding Anakin's death a lot more relevant.

I agree. That'd be very symbolic, indeed. It'd show that it's the beginning of a new journey involving the children and their father. The children and their father are being born at the same time, if you catch my drift.
