Let Us Talk About Our Names, Sigs, and Avatars

How do you define yourself on message boards? By the choosing of your user name, by the signature you leave at the bottom of your posts, by the avatar you choose to display, by the custom member title you put under your avy? Does your avatar and/or user name and/or signature and/or custom member title show others some of your personality and nature? Why did you select the name and avatar and sig and custom title that accompany your contributions to the forum? Are they movie quotes, personal quotes, what? What do you like about them? What do you like about other's choices for aveys, titles, and sigs, and even names?

You all may have noticed that my avatars and sigs do not remain the same. I have accounts on 4 or 5 message boards, and different avatars, sigs, and user names on each of them, because I constantly get bored and prefer to change them. That is a result of my stifled creative nature which despises being contained. So I change my aveys often, though currently I am really digging the one I have now.

Likewise, I filled out my profile fully, yet I some posters here have left their profiles vague or completely blank. Why is that? Why not tell a bit about yourself in your profile, so that people who read your posts can find out something about you?

CUSTOM MEMBER TITLE: If you notice, I'm constaintly referring to "taking out the garbage." The first one to reference this was "Making the breakfast and taking out the garbage too." It evolved to [Insert here] and taking out the garbage too, and finally to just referencing to taking out the garbage.

USER NAME: I collect names. Names that I think are cool sounding, or different spellings of common names. Luvinna is a name I picked up somewhere that I really like. I've used it ever since I first got on the internet back in 1996, and there's only been a couple of places I couldn't use it to register with (Yahoo being one). So if you see a Luvinna on the 'net, it's entirely possible that it's me.

AVATAR: I chose my current avatar because I really like the movie A Christmas Story and I thought the idea of Jar Jar getting his tongue stuck to a metal pole was just hilarious. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif I'll probably switch back to my Mara avatar in a couple of weeks since I'm a major Mara fan and that one is one of the very few artist renderings of her that I like.

CUSTOM MEMBER TITLE: When the kid in A Christmas Story realizes his tongue is stuck to the flag pole, he starts screaming, "I'm stuck!" I thought I'd caption my avatar with a Jar Jar version of that line. When I switch back to my Mara avatar, I'll probably change my member title back to "My other ride is an X-wing," which is on my car's license plate frame.

SIGNATURE: For my sig, I like to pick quotes that say something profound in a funny way. I change it every now and then, but not very often. I also collect quotes, so I have a heap of options to choose from. I also put my EUDF and PSEDF call signs in there, mostly so I can remember them. Not that I've been very active in the PSEDF. :look: And right now, there's also a link to the on-line Bible study I'm hosting at my message board.

PROFILE: Nothing special about my profile, really. Just tells about some of my interests.

Username: I grew up in Connecticut. I am a huge hockey fan. A while back, there was a team in CT called the Hartford Whalers. I lived and breathed this team. But they sucked and moved to North Carolina. My username is a tribute to that team and Star Wars.

Custom Member Title: Obscure movie reference. In the movie Youngblood, Rob Lowe plays hockey for a team in Canada called the Mustangs. When he joins the team, he stays in the team's boarding house run by a woman with a nice butt named Ms. McGill. She takes care of all the guys on the team...I mean really takes care of them. She often brings them tea while they are resting in their rooms. When she does, she follows that by...um...giving them something else. So "having tea with Ms. McGill" is a popular time for Mustang players.

Signature: At the moment it is "They Have a Cave Troll" my favorite line from Fellowship of the Rings. However, by the time you read this, it may have been changed. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

User Name: A reference to the movie Swingers, one of my favorite movies, in which Vince Vaughn's character Trent tells Jon Favreau's character Mike to "Double Down" on 11 while playing Blackjack in "Vegas, Baby, Vegas." Mike proceeds to lose the hand, although Trent keeps insisting that you "always double down on 11" so Mike calls Trent by the name "Double Down" at various points throughout the remainder of the film.

Avatar: Nothing real special. I change it from time to time to keep it "fresh." Sometimes I use one provided by the site and sometimes I put one of my own up.

Custom Member Title: Usually some sarcastic comment in order to create humor. I personally liked the one when I had the picture of Mark Hamill showing off his wingspan and I put in, "I once had a career this big." style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigsmile.gif

Signature: Again, a quote from Swingers.

Profile: I put in a little bit but if someone really cares enough to know more then they can PM me and I'll share anything and everything that they want to know. That way I can keep track of the people that really cared enough to ask.

USER NAME: Usually I'll attempt a variation on the name Heather if I can't get plain old Heather, so I'm HeatherD on a couple boards... Here I'm Leia! obviously...

AVATAR: Well, my avatar switches from my current craze (at the moment ROTK) back to Leia when I tire of that and then when I get ahold of something else I really like I'll switch it to another thing! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif But it always comes back to Leia eventually

SIGNATURE: um right now I'm just showing off my artwork. For the longest time I didn't have a sig... But when I do have one it usually reflects my avatar like for Leia I had "Will someone get this walking carpet out of my way??" and when I had Merry and Pippin after the fireworks incident I had dialogue from that part of the film...

Avatar: You know, I'm big on the Pilots from Star Wars, both Rebel and Imperial. Previously, my avatar was Dutch aka Gold Leader from ANH. Right now, it's Tiree aka Gold Two from ANH. I tried loading up a TIE Fighter pilot pic for an avatar, but it didn't work.

Sig: Right now, it's comprised of humorous quotes from A Hard Day's Night. Mostly quotes by John Lennon from that movie. And below that is a link to my RPG. PLEASE join! It is getting so tiresome without anyone to play with...

Custom member title: Just a humorous caption regarding the avatar. With my Gold Leader avatar, that has him looking up, it was "Do you have any idea how fast you were going, sir?", as if he was pulled over for speeding. Right now, it's "What are YOU looking at", becaus he seems annoyed by the fact we're looking at him.

USER NAME: Miasma - A noxious atmosphere or influence. I just thought it sounded cool and it was on page 8 of my OT trilogy novel which I had next to me when I signed up for the GS. Sometimes I make up usernames, sometimes I use words that have specific meanings. Usually they have something to do with the mood I'm in at the time. It was either gonna be Miasma, or Divine Ashtray...

AVATAR: Usually I change them around pretty often but I think I'm gonna stick with my current avi for awhile. I did some editing and made a character... let's call him Yetti Disco Vader. The head is from the Snow Miser from the stop-motion Christmas movie The Year Without A Santa Claus, the body is from a lego version of Darth Vader, and the background was at first nothing, then it was jellybeans, now it's a close-up of a disco floor. It truly feels more alive than any other avi I've had.

SIGNATURE: I used to have a random quote but I've decided to be more productive now. Every now and then I'll post a different song quote, tell you what it's from, and give you a link to find out more about the artist. I've also put a link at the bottom to a GS poetry thread because I don't think it gets enough attention or contributors.

CUSTOM MEMBER TITLE: At first they would be random titles completely separate from my avatar, but after a few weeks it seemed to me that people kind of expected them to relate to each other so now I always keep the avatar in mind. "Join me and/or be eaten!" just seemed appropriate. It used to be 'or' instead of 'and/or' but I figured some people might like being eaten. I know I do.

PROFILE: I don't take this too seriously. I used to care about it because it can help to find friends with common interests, but I'm kind of in the same boat as DblDwn. I won't write an autobiography and I just feel passionate about different things at different times so it's hard to make a list that's a good representation of myself. But I guess you'd have to meet me to really get a good grasp of my life, and even then you'd have the odds stacked against you.

USER NAME: The name Goodwije was assigned to me at work, it is literally my name - Jamie Goodwin - mushed together. I liked the way it looked, and there isnt really anything else like it out there so i kept it. Some people have asked how to pronounce it, truth is i do not know, it isnt a real word. AVATAR: I usually use Yoda pics. He is my favorite character. The current one is one i found on the net and thought looked cool.

SIGNATURE: Right now it is a quote from a line for Empire. But i change it around as i get bored or find something inspiring or funny. It was previously "Lets Blow this thing and Go Home" which a few people got a kick out of. I also have my real name Jamie and o.ka. (originally known as) Deak. Way back when i posted here under the sn Deak and a few of the people from back then remember me as such, but did not realize i was the same person so i added it.

USER NAME: Well, it's not really gunna be that hard to work out eh? Flo because my name's Florence and some folk call me Flo, Fett cos I am a stalker and general obsessive of the fictional man that is Boba Fett. If he thinks he can escape me that easily by not really existing...

SIGNATURE: I change my sig often too. Usually they are quotes from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind which is a game close to my heart, but my current ones are on the subject of fear. A subject which interests me greatly. One quote is from 'The Prince' by Niccolo Machiavelli, an essential guide to all would-be dictators on how to get what you want and more importantly, how to keep it. A wise albeit cynical man indeed.

USER NAME:It's the same everywhere I think. I came up with it about three years ago out of thin air, or mabe because it rhymes with 'dojo' and my favourite PlayStation game of the time was Tenchu 2, about ninja's. Only later did I find out it means red in Spanish.

AVATAR:Changes periodically. Oddly it's hardly ever Star Wars related, it's usually LOTR.

SIGNATURE:I try to use quotes, they're from LOTR at the moment, and there's a link to my site.

USER NAME: Old story... the Senate went down the summer of 99 and I joined Jedinet and needed a new name, I took Blizzard from the white tiger beanie baby sitting on top of my desk at the moment. My pen name since I was 12 was Jennifer Skies, and Blizzard and Skies went together perfectly, and with that name I got where I am today.... Uh, here.

AVATAR: Currently the twins I got my son for X-mas, he named them Ice and Cream, but I call them Thing 1 and Thing 2.

USER NAME: Tovor is the name of the villian in my 9 part "P.G.W." sci-fi/fantasy/war book epic series. When I first began posting at the Jedinet Council back in 1998, I considered SW names but decided on that name because it had a lot of meaning to me. In the PGW series, robots are called rovots, or vots, and Tovor, unoriginal as this method is, is rovot backwards.

AVATAR: This always changes. I don't like simple ones. I've had SW ones but that is just par for the course on a SW board, ya know what I mean? I choose aveys that will please me for a short time, and possibly either draw attention to it from others, or draw a laugh when I choose something that you wouldn't expect. My next avey might be a naked old lady wrapped in a towel holding her false teeth in her hand, who knows. On another board that I post at sometimes, though not as often as I'd like, I have as avatar an image taken from T'bone's archive, of the Imperial Eye. This one of Lucy Liu, she is so damn hot. Asian women are the bomb, I'm telling ya. There she is, naked butt to a mirror, and I've never wanted to be a mirror so much in my life! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

SIGNATURE: Also at that above mentioned site, Colonialfleets.com (a Battlestar Galactica board), I have in my sig "Click here for the best Star Wars board on the web" and that link takes people there right to here. But as far as here, my sig has changed so many times and I've enjoyed each one so much. The one I have now is much simpler than ones I've had in the past. The bottom links are just self-promotion. The quote about hate, by Nixon, really struck me as profoundly important for society in general, and of course the Yoda quote just shows how the Nixon quote ties in to the SW experience. Yet, I have no idea if people even read my sigs, find them interesting or funny, or what. Last year in my sig it said "Robin Williams is making me look bad" and nobody questioned that. The explanation is that I am a one hour photo lab manager, and his film One Hour Photo, which I boycotted and refuse to watch, made me and my love for my work look like a joke. That was a statement of my life at the moment, that I am having trouble with my creativity and thinking because of the nasty efforts of Darth Reallife to disrupt my goals, and I really miss the ability I had when I was younger to delve into my fantasy world of other worlds and starships and drama and fantastic stories and create things on paper that were just too cool for words, yet I found the words I needed anyway. So I represent that other side of me, the side I miss, the side I am trying to return to and show to the world.

USER NAME: The "Marbleman" was born in my childhood. I played with marbles incessantly and still have a closet or two packed with marbleworks. So my friends and eventually some family members began calling me that. I recoiled from society and began dabbling in black magic, eventually fusing myself to my beloved pastime. Hideous and deformed, I gained the power to roll along at rapid speeds, sending people flying in my wake! It was then that I began a (so far) prosperous life of crime, robbing innocent children of their marbles to gain power and sustenace.

AVATAR: It's pretty random, this one is a tree creature whose eyes glow. Isn't he spooky? I think I'll name him "Treefeared." He is a treant, which is not quite an ent but still barks like one. I thought it was flipping hilarious so I saved it, with the assumption that it was not a personal photo or anything that he was involved with. If/when I post modelling shots of lovely women who I've photographed, I would be quite upset if someone saved one of the them and used it for their own purposes. It was one of the best games I ever played in, and hence forth, every time I learned a new game system, I'd begin with a character named Angel.
Starmaster comes from my Hotmail addy, which I've been using since about the dawn of time. Put the two together and they made a great GS User name.

Avatar; - Currently is a pic of Corran Horn. After reading I, Jedi, and more recently tNJO- Final Prophesy, I've decided that Corran is very much one of my favorite Jedi. Simpley because he reminds me so much of me. I think we were separated at birth actually, I just got stuck in the wrong position in time and space.

Her name is...never mind that. She was a lovely woman I knew in college, and I did a photo shoot with her in the school studio. I honestly can't remember if she was Puerto Rican or Brazilian (I thought she was Puerto Rican, but her cousin had a Brazilian last name so I'm not certain.), but she was a beautiful woman with the nicest eyes. Her eyes were simply incredible, though in that shot, the positive version of it, her eyes were not as piercing as usual.

Username-I am writing a story with the lead character named Erick. Beyond that I wanted a name that would be original so I thought I would choose a last name from a different context. At first I was going to go with Starkiller, but I went with the fantasy roots of my stories and made then forged Landrider fromthe same principles as Starkiller.

Avatar-I have always liked Avatars that have a mature tone to them. Obi-Wan's line from 'Jedi' fit so perfectly with the Vader image and was so heart breaking that I had to do it.

Signature-One is a quote from a friend of mine. The second is from the pilot of Babylon 5, which is one of my favorite shows. And Ephesian 6 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. This one talks about putting on the full armor of God and how the word of God is a sword. Oh I love it.

For avatar you can select one of your images from computer: go to my controls>edit avatar settings and then upload.
For signature you must have image uploaded somewhere on net. I'm using this: http://www.photobucket.com/ There you can upload a signature and put the link of it to my controls>edit signature.
