View Full Version : Star Wars Confessions Thread
Gazelle
12-04-2003, 09:40 AM
This is a thread for those of us that want to get a couple of things off our chests about Star Wars. You know what I mean, the sort of things that might be upsetting or embarrasing to reveal, but nevertheless need to be said.
All confessions must be Star Wars related in this thread. I'll start and let's see where this goes.
Gazelle's Star Wars Confessions
1. I quite like Jar Jar Binks and I dislike Chewbacca.
2. After getting up early to tape "Clone Wars" on VHS, I am now
considering taping over it all.
3. I get really tired and once yawned all the way through Phantom Menace when I saw it at the cinema, much to the annoyance of my friend who was a staunce Darth Maul fan. (Don't be too upset with me though, I had a brief sleep through ROTK each time I saw it in the cinema)
4. I wish that the goodies in the Star Wars movies weren't so violent
5. After coming out of the cinema on premiere night of Phantom Menace, I walked out past a huge line of fans waiting to get in and kept saying loudly to my friends "I can't believe they killed Threepio" much to their annoyance.
6. I had the entire collection of all the Star Wars toys back during 1977-1983, but I gave them away under pressure from my mum. Today, these items are worth thousands...
I'll think of some more soon.

That's cruel - but I like it.
That is the reason why I will always go to the first show of all the Star Wars movies.
imagine standing in line, to see ESB for the fisrt time and your hear someone comming out of the theater saying - "I can't believe Vader is Lukes father..."
I mentioned this before in other thread, but when each of my two boys were born and all the blood tests were being done, I asked the doctor for a midichlorian count.
And I'll do it again with the next style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Yes, this is the stuff.
It has been known for me to quote the Emperor's lines from ROTJ asI'm driving along in the car in my best McDiarmid voice.

During an impromptu wordsearch competition, I was heard to mutter over at the opponents' team "Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side!" in perfect McDiarmid tone and inflection.

It's gotten so bad that my wife constantly calls me "Eric Forman", for those of you who do not watch the 70's Show, first of all, you should!, second of all, Eric quotes star wars in just about every episode. Third of all, I don't think I've ever used so many commas in the same sentence, nor have I ever spelled so poorly.

I regulary smuggle new Star Wars toys into the house so my wife doesn't see them (she doesn't want her 27 year old husband spending money on toys). I store them in a hidden part of my basement where I can look at them when my wife is not around.

Its tough, but there's a thing we refer to as "man's land". Every man needs his man's land. It's the one room of place that is his own. Let's face it, for most married guys, the whole house really belongs to the wife. All the decorating and furniture is all the wife's deparment...except for Man's Land. The rest of my house is palm trees, shells, dolphins, and other ocean/beach type stuff. As long as I butt out of that, I can do anything I want w/ man's land. It's a 'more than fair' policy. Wife, I get THIS ONE room, you get the rest of the house.
How many pictures, nic naks, decorative plates, and other junk is littering your living room, bedroom, and kitchen ?
We deserve to display our own pictures and nic naks, even if they are "toys" in the general sense of the word style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
And eventually, it bleeds thru into other areas of the house, for instance, this year we have darth maul, spiderman, an X-Wing, a stormtrooper, and John Elway on our christmas tree style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

Sometimes, when I watch ROTJ, I put the Slave Leia scenes in pause or slo-mo modes, because I just find that so damn sexy. Also, when there is a blizzard/snow storm in my town (like there was in my home in NJ this past weekend), I pretend I'm on Hoth, digging up trenches to fight "AT-AT's" with, and I just finished watching ESB just now too...

My wife made me take down my TPM posters because our three year old kept calling Qui -Gon "Jesus".
When someone pisses me off at work "reach" for My lightsaber and hack them down. I often get odd looks for making the lightsaber sound.

Here's another one. As some of you probably know, I am a fourth grade teacher. A lot of teachers have "pointers" to allow them to point to things on maps, overheads, etc. My pointer is a green lightsaber (one of those generic $6 toys you can buy at Walmart). Unprofessional? No way. I'd think part of the challenge of being a teacher would be keeping the kid's attention. That lightsaber pointer would be a great tool for that. I bet for alot of them, you're probably their favorite teacher. Kids eat that stuff up.

I would warp your fragile little mind.
Moving along, when I was in 8th grade I had to do a science project, which I won't go into detail about, and I had to design an alien. I drew a vicious little multi-legged creature with a grinning mouthful of sharp teeth. I could've come up with a completely original name for it but I just switched the 'u' to an 'a' in the word gundark and called it a gandark. I knew my whole class didn't care about Star Wars, except for my friend, so they wouldn't know what I did. And they didn't. I probably could've used the real name even...

I have a target-rich environment of possibilities-- I'm a Reservist deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division right now and a team leader in a Combat Engineer squad. I've got three guys, not a one of them over 25, whereas I am 36...
The whole Platoon knows I'm a Star Wars fan. When my "kids" get upright or impatient about something, I say "Patience, my young Padawan..." They dig it.
I also draw a cartoon that appears frequently on the wall of the chow hall here, little slice of life jokes about how damnfool dumb things can be here... I've used a lot of Star Wars references there was well.
In a bit of a Dark Side confession, we have hordes of foreign workers here too... mostly from India, and other Subcontinent places. They are small of stature, scurry around everywhere, and gawk at the female soldiers. We suspect some of them of stealing, so when I get frustrated I sometimes refer to them as Jawas when no one else is around... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
But on a lighter note, I have so many opportunities for quotes here it isn't even funny--
"Move along, move along"
"These aren't the droids we're looking for"
the list is endless....

I end up watching the Holiday Special at least twice a year. And in a self-effacing way, I like to watch it. "Just one more round friends..."
I love quoting the movies, but I really love quoting the cut scenes. I make it a point to say "You gotta mouth bigger than a meteor crater" or "You're are getting a little soft in the city" at least once a week.

Hmmm the hardest part of this is finding a starting point........
I have, on more than one occasion, attempted to force choke people (it still hasn't worked, but I refuse to stop trying)
I have finished more conversations with "May the Force be with you" than an alleged adult should.
I used to use my son as an excure to buy more Star Wars toys.
My son hums the Star Wars theme and the Imperial March because of me.
I've been known to tell salespeople that I am in fact, Toydarian and mind tricks don't work on me, only money.
I have instructed my wife that, upon my demise, I am to be placed in Vader armor, then on top of a pyre, that is to be ignited by my son, dressed as Luke, and I meant it.
I'm sure there are more just stay tuned.

When asked what church I go to (I live in the deep South) I tell them I'm a Jedi. I am met with blank expressions.
When I die I either want my ashes in outer space or let go over Skywalker Ranch. Although a funeral pyre would be so cool too.
I ask Yoda for guidance all the time.
We live in the country. When my kids ask where we are going (when we go to the big city) I tell them Coresant.
Oh and I also move cars out of my way on the interstate using the force. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yeah.gif

Within the first few days I was at work at my summer job this summer, four of the fish in the aquarium died by the time I showed up at work that afternoon. I called up my boss, and he had to help me save the survivors, since the pumps had stopped working and none of us had known about it. I was near hysterics, really, having to pull those fish out. Anyway, while I was waiting for my boss to get back with an emergency pump, I kept looking at this Red-eared fish that I had gotten attached to, mainly because he had outlasted all the other fish, and said, "Come on, Han, old buddy, don't let me down." He survived, and I now call him Han. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
My best friend went through a break-up last spring, and was chatting with one of his ex's friends on AIM, and she said that if he hurt her then she (the friend) would hurt him. He immediately felt the temptation to say, "Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?" It's become one of our favorite inside jokes, and I even think I laughed at it during ROTS, despite how sucked into the story I was.
There are more, definitely, and I'll put them up later.

My confessions:
When people sneeze I don´t say Bless You, I don´t say Gesundheit. I say May the Force be with you!. Try this, it makes people laugh.
I don´t loath Jar Jar Binks as much as I used to - in fact he is rather growing on me.
My ex goes by the nickname Chewy.
And to finish, an extract from a recent telephone conversation with my ex during which I spent half an hour justifying the political legitimacy of Palpatine´s extended term as Supreme Chancellor and subsequent elevation to Emperor.
"You´re obviously barmy," he accused, "Admit it, you´ve got a crush on Palpatine!"
I´m denying it, of course.

I sorta like the Ewoks, but some of the fighting scene in ROTJ seem silly. Like dropping the stones on the heads of the Stormtroopers. They only show one getting shot. Come on.

I have tried to get my wife to dress up as lea in slave outfit ( whats cool is she will too if I found the right cosume)(she love SW too)
I pretend I am driving a landspeeder as I drive to work (or anywhere)
I use jedi mind trick daily
I once was looking at SW figures at walmart and this kid had a vader one...Oh man I wanted it....So I picked up some other character and said "OH MAN" this is the coolest one around here and just kept making it sound if it was the ONE to have....I sat it down and walked a isle over and watched the kid....and sure nuff he put down vader and got the one I was oogling over....Now hw sad is that?...IM 36 Years old!!!!!(but I got My Vader!)

I know it's a sickness...
Ok heres one I just completed at work, lets see what you guys think about this...
First let me start off by telling you a little about what I do at work and then go into the story....
Ok I work for a major ISP and also on a government project in a call center.... I am in the IT department and maintain approximately 900 computers and multi million $ Cisco servers and other junk...
Ok well to get into my dept you have swipe your badge to get into my area....as well as in the building and stuff..
These swipes are recorded by a computer on the network in the security office that show time, date etc....
Ok what I did was get a copy of the record software that security had and built a computer and a program that when you swipe your card to get into the technology suite it runs a program on the comp I built back here like in security...
But The program I created actually plays a .wav file when I enter the door after swiping my badge...
And of course it plays the Imperial March...
What you guys think about that?

I also went to all of the SE and PT releases at least twice at the theater, except for ROTS...I was far too broke to go to a movie.
I have gone to the SE's carrying a cheesy SW SE blaster rifle and blaster pistol. You know the ones...the rifle is white and the pistol is orange, and they are electronic...Zap! Brack! etc. A theater usher was about to take them from me and my friend because he thought they were water guns. How embarrassing...in front of all the other people in the theater.
Another confession...I find neither Carrie Fisher or Natalie Portman all that attractive. And I do mean the younger Carrie Fisher. I can't stand the novels making them out to be irresistable.

On more than one occasion, I have "sat down for a few minutes to watch a little bit" with her. And during the juiciest scenes, I have secretly pretended that Natalie Portman's raunchy stripper character was actually Padme, having a wild time at that Couruscant nightclub in AOTC (ever notice how the clubs in both movies have similar colors and lighting?). As an 18 year male, I reluctantly have something to admit...
I cry (or almost cry / get that 'lump' in my throat) every time I watch ROTS when Yoda drops his cane during the Jedi Purge sequence. I am always fine up until that part!
Let's see... I've played "Battle of the Heroes" really loud through my CD-man while using a broomstick to imaginarily fight a Sith Knight.
I usually can not get through one day without daydreaming that I have Force powers, and sometimes I am called to ward off evil men from a helpless girl... and of course I always end up with the girl style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif
If I need to grab something a few feet away, I always outstretch my hand and strain to call the object to me before I actually get up and get it.
I have found that I measure in meters now instead of feet. (Did you ever notice they seem to always measure in meters in the Star Wars galaxy?)
If I am alone in the house I usually sing songs from Star Wars: The Musical, usually/preferably "One Season More - Special Edition Version"
Me and my sister make up words to the Star Wars Soundtracks.
If I am alone I always pretend to have Force Lightning and I electricute everything.
Now I know this is not Star Wars, but Star Trek is pretty close: Everday I give my sister the Vulcan Neck-Pinch, while simultaneously saying "Sorry, Doctor", as Spock says in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn before he saves the Enterprise in the end.
Back to Star Wars... I got upset when I realized I could no longer play with my SW action figures. Getting older SUCKS!
Speaking of SW figures... A few years ago I got jealous of a woman who grabbed the last Boss Nass figure in the bin at Toys R' Us. I became even more infuriated when she screamed: "I GOT IT!!! YES! YES!!!" No exaggeration. One question that still urks me is... did she buy it for Her, or for her kid? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

When I first saw ANH in the theatres in '77, I was a mere 6. I really thought that the Stormtroopers were robots. Really.
ME TOO! In fact, from always playing with a Stormtrooper action figure as a kid, I noticed the OII symbol on their upper-back armor, and assumed that it was supposed to say "OIL". In other words, I thought that symbol was supposed to be an upper-case O, an upper-case I, and a lower case L. And that this must be a marking for the "oil tank" for the feul that the "Stormtrooper robots" ran on. No kidding! I also assumed that Han and Luke must have ripped all the wires and circuitry and machinery out of them before they put the Stormtrooper armor on for a disguise. Yeah, I had it all figured out!

CAUTION: the following may be be blasphemous....
None of my children have seen Star Wars.
The oldest turned 6 today. Last night he was asking about it, so I think that we'll be watching it tomorrow. :)
I tried to show it to him a few months back, but he just wasn't interested. He didn't like all the shooting when the imperials boarded the rebels' ship. Plus he's only recently become more interested in stuff that isn't animated.
BTW he does have Star Wars underwear though.

I often do the whole hand-waving thng for automatic doors, too. I may have already posted that...oh well.
I quote the movie lines and even the novel lines at times...odd times. I whistle and chirp like R2, I babble like 3PO, I roar like Chewie, hiss breathe like Vader, talk in mishapen riddle form like Yoda, and give my best "Aw shucks" country boy like Luke.
I mimic all of the characters I can...from Darth Sidious' "Wipe them out. All of them." to Wickets "Yub yub."
But I mime and mimic so many movie characters that some of them blend together.
Another confession...when a few friends and I went to see one of the SE OT's, we took our recently purchased Star Wars toy blasters with us. I had a pistol (that was actually orange for some reason) and a blaster rifle (that was white) and we hid them under our jackets. I believe one of my buddies brought along a lightsaber.
We almost had them confiscated by an usher when he saw them and thought they were squirt guns. LOL The kid looked three or four years younger than me, and he was trying to act like someone in authority. It was funny. A 17 or 18 year old kid telling me to give him my "squirt gun."
I think I shot him just for the heck of it. But, I did find it embarrasing when others there were looking at us. At this showing there were few others who had brought anything like what we had brought with us. At the other shows, there were plenty of other people that had brought little Star Wars toys like that...even people saber dueling at the front of the theater, in front of the screen.
Oh, to be a Star Wars geek to the very bones...

But I think, Lily, that you've put the 'not' in the wrong place - you are impliying that you read Star Wars books, drool over ugly guys and apply makeup but you don't talk about the latest chick flick. My biggest confession that will shock you all: I have never, ever, ever watched any episode of Star Wars in cinemas. Bad, bad me.

As a young child I was listless and bored and took out my frustration on hapless Star Wars action figures. (Yes I know fellow true believers-blasphemy!)
Anyway the first account of abuse:
My brother and I stuck a fire-cracker in one of those 1970's R2-D2 action figures and it flew accross the street. It didn't blow up as we though it would and instead became a projectile. And in our minds recreated the scene of R2-D2 being spat out of that entirly-too-big-for-the-pond-he-was-swimming-in-Fish, on Dagobah. Exciting, unexpected, fun. tried to recreate the phenomenon, but alas, R2 only "flew" once.

Cool. I always miss those childhood days, when simple things were causes of great pleasures. I remember receiving the old trilogy on VHS as a birthday gift. the second account of abuse:
Again my brother was with me, and again we sought to take out our boredom on a "droid" star wars figure (I can't even begin to imagine what that could signify in my subconscious, psychologiclly speaking). This time around the unwitting victim was 8D8 the white torture droid from RotJ. We were at a shopping mall and they were having some sort of celebration/sale thingy going on and handing out helium filled balloons... My brother and I, still obsessed with sending things into the air, tied one balloon to the droid and let it go... Nothing happened, the droid was laying down on the ground and not even held aloft in any way as to make it look interesting. So we tied another balloon to good ol' 8D8... SUCESS! he started to rise and was quickly out of reach of our grasping hands. Too far up to jump up and snag it anymore, my brother and I exchanged looks and both wished for slingshots at the same moment, but none materialized. Damn, we had to stand there and watch as our intreped star wars action figure flew off and over in a south-westernly direction in the afternoon skies over Germany. and imagine that some kid, who had no notion of Star Wars or what even a droid was would eventually see our toy floating down after the helium had leaked out of the balloons, and get to play with it. Oh farewell 8D8 and may your life be as interesting as I can imagine it for a toy strapped to helium balloons. *sniff*

okay this is a general question about "star wars" and everyone gives their own opinion..................
alright...now in general with the effects, the fights, and so on and so on...star wars is awesome!!...and the storyline to it of course is fantastic!
thanks to george.....but my question is..do you think it was worth george lucas spending alot of money to make the prequel trilogy??....despite the bad credit and crtisicim.......he and the actors got...that crap doesnt matter to me..because i dont care about that....in my opion geogre lucas made the prequels.......very well...."if they sucked so bad, according to what people say...then why did they make so much money and why are they still popular?"......WHAT DO U PEOPLE THINK?
even the originals...like between the 70's and 80's the effects sucked crap...but when star wars came out....that changed because of how george used his imagination....the only thing i say that "kind of sucked" about the prequel trilogy was...episode 2...and im sorry to say but i agree with lots of people...since because ep 2 was the second half of the main character's life "anakin skywalker" i really think george should have put more effort into the script, the acting directions, and.......most of all i think he shouldnt have used too much of his CGL.....

Hi Melissa! I guess you forgot that this is the SW confessions thread. Wouldn't it be good if we discuss this matter in another thread?

During my day watching the whole Saga, every so often I would ignite my Luke lightsaber and mimic whatever duel was taking place. I think with my lame attempts even a youngling would have defeated me! :bye:

^ Indeed I am, but my skills with a lightsaber are very basic, almost just defence, like Obi Wan.
The force is strong with me in other areas. For example being able to watch 13 hours worth of films in one day. A Master of that I now truly am.

I thought it was more funny than dirty or sexy. Since Leia was trying to prove to Han she prefer men other than him.
If it had looked more like my avatar then it would have been sexy but ultimately as we now know wrong.

okay this responce probably belongs in the Luke vs Han thread, but here goes: I don't think that she really wanted to prove to Han that she prefered other men. In fact more to the point, Han hit the nail on the head and got to her and she didn't like being put on the spot. So spoiled little princess pulls a little game/test. Han knew that the game was still on. Well thats my take on it anyway.

Agreed, the oldest trick in the book. Women, eh, think we don't get it?! :tease:  She was always interested in Han, the charming rogue, I believe she liked the way he spoke so honestly, Leia was used to dealing with politicians who always had ulterior motives.
The kiss with Luke was not, IMO, dirty or sexy, it was a cheap shot to try and show Han that he wasn't going to easily get things the way he wanted them. It just so happened she felt comfortable kissing Luke (we later find out why they had some kind of 'connection' between them) and he just happened to be there at the time.

My neighbours, had an Imperial balloon on their front gate and I was so tempted to take it but I didn't *sob* I wish I had!
They were having a party but I don't know why they chose and Imperial balloon, because they never watch Star Wars (I would know because our houses on the side with my bedroom is much closer together than most houses around and I would hear if they were playing Star Wars)

^ Obviously, you're not a true Sith after all! Luke's guidance has taught you well. :nahnah:
During my vacation I was driving to a relatives house and on the way I stopped at a redlight just in front of an electronics shop. There was a brand new Sony HD showing the famouse duel scene between Luke and Vader. I sat in my car and watched the whole duel scene without any sound. Traffic was light, so I did not cause any problems while I sat in my car on right lane.
