I heard something about this movie. Trailer reminds me of that bad movie LXG, but the effects are somewhat more impressive

I like the comic, and the trailer looks good, so I'll probably see it, the only thing I don't like is that Hellboy is a little too bright, the red really stands out in some parts.

Starship Troopers was a cool movie for what it was. It was WW2 recreated to be futeristic. It was writen in the late 40's or early 50's, I do believe.

I'd never even heard of HELLBOY until a couple months ago, but I wasn't impressed with the trailer. I like Ron Perlman, who's virtually unrecognizable in all that makeup, but I won't be seeing the movie. Maybe--maybe--a video rental. (And for the record, I thought LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN was one of the coolest, most entertaining movies of 2003. Actually dude, according to the folks at CHUD.com who have scene the movie, been on set, talked with the director, producers, and the star, that this is going to be one of the best films this year - I think you should give it a chance. The film will deliver.

If you thought LXG was even slightly entertaining, I don't think it could be at all possible for you to be dissapointed with this flick, it's in a completely different league than LXG I'll tell you that right now.

Mann
02-09-2004, 05:41 PM

Hulk wasn't bad....just not great. It went for a much more dramatic approach than most of the other comic book movies and unfortunately weren't able to pull it off.

Anyone else heard teh David Duchovny rumour for Hulk 2? Eric Bana apparently wasn't thrilled with teh original's poor reception and has backed out.

On topic, Hellboy look sweet!

http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-...hellboy02f.html (http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-hellboy02f.html)

Alot of the reviewers apparantly forgot (or just didn't know) this was a movie based on a comic book super hero before they saw the movie, I keep hearing alot of the same complaints like "There is character development...but then the rest is just action" and "It's too loud", and then there's the comments that make absolutely-no-sense-what-so-ever like Roger Eberts comment that the creatures appeared to be stoolen from The Matrix... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/giveup.gif

But for the most part the film is getting great reviews...

Who else is going to see this today? Anyone seen it already?

I saw it last night at a free sneak preview with some friends. Three of us are comic collectors, however we don't collect Hellboy. We all really liked the movie alot. It had good special effects, good action, and was fun and funny. Ron Perlman did a really good job also.

It's definitely a good time and worth seeing.

And just for the record, I liked LXG.

Actually I think he meant the Gods of Chaos, but there's no similarity there either, it's not like The Matrix invented tenticles and dreadlocks. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

Anyway I loved the movie. Great sorta quirky dialogue, Ron Perlman totally owned, it's just a real fun ride, and I think it's one of the best, if not the best comic adaptions yet. I say that because it's the most like it's source material in comparison to other 'comic book movies'.

But it's not flawless, I would've liked to have learned more about who the characters were, why they were that way, etc etc, there just wasn't much explanation, and for the characters it just kinda felt like another day on the job which for me as an audience member took away the tension, kinda felt like the pilot for a tv series in that respect. Basically the film just left you wanting more, and I geuss that's a good thing.

1)Superman II
2)Spiderman

I'd put Superman right around X-men in my rankings.

I don't know why I have II so far ahead of the original Superman really. I just remember that I thought the first one was a bit slow.....It has been a long time since I watched some of these movies, so my rankings might be a bit off.

It's already made over 2/3 of what it cost to make it back. And there's a 100% chance that it'll make a nice sized profit from overseas gross and DVD/video sales.

So it really is happening and they're happy about what it's doing at the BO. This has been said by the star and the director of the film.

Well I enjoyed the first HellBoy. The only two things I wasn't happy with
was the sound quality and soundtrack. I felt like all the sound effects were too quiot.
I think they spent a little too much on the set/character/etc. production and not enough on the sound quality.
Secondly, the music/soundtrack was a little cheezie. They should get Danny Elfman (the master composer of superhero movies) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Hellboy was ok, but I'm not sure I'd bother with a sequel.

They've already done the key emotional story with his father.

Can't say I noticed anything wrong with the sound when I saw it - maybe it was the cinema where you saw it rather than the film itself?? I can't imagine that they would save money on the sound quality - sound isn't exactly the most expensive part of a movie's budget!!

You know, I'm looking forward to this new movie as much as Indy 4 and The Dark Knight.

I can't wait dude. I still think the original is one of the most faithful comic book to movie adaptations out there, and so many people forget to mention it when talking about comic book movies.

I'd like to say that it's one of the best adaptations, but having never read any of the comics, I really can't. That said, I completely dug the first flick and can't wait to see the sequel.
Hmmm...it's been at least a couple of years since I watched the first one. Might have to rectify that this week.

Check out the comics dude, they are excelente! Guillermo says the TPB "Seed of Destruction" was a huge influence, and you can tell. I read "Seed of Destruction" a little while ago, and the movie was a good 80% of that book, plus influences from other Hellboy books. There were very few things that were changed or added.

Yeah, I really came close to doing so right after I saw the first film, but for no real reason, I never got around to it. Maybe I'll finally do so, in addition to re-watching the first film, in preperation of the sequel. There are certainly worse things I could do with my free time than become immersed in what appears to be a kick-ass comic book character's universe. Y'know, like watch LOTR.
