"I am the law!"--Judge Dredd

Okay, well, maybe not. We're a community here, and I'm moderating on the board so graciously granted to us by T'Bone, but, well, so far, the fan audio community is doing a great job of being cordial and otherwise a great close-knit community.

I just had a few quick suggestions that might keep things running smoothly, efficiently, and orderly. (And you all know how structured I tend to want to be).

Since this board works in conjunction with StarWarsFanworks.com to provide some cross-generation of news bytes, casting calls, and so forth, I'm hoping we can try to stick to four easy guidelines for the sake of efficiency.

----------

1. When you start a thread on your project as the official thread that you hope to use for the project's overall discussion, please try to format your title in the fashion shown here:

Title: Official Discussion
webaddress

EXAMPLE:
Second Strike: Official Discussion
starwarsfanworks.com/secondstrike.html

That'll keep things simple and let people know where the project creators are more likely to post and check for new posts.

----------

2. When posting a casting call, please use the format that has developed by itself over the last few months.

CASTING CALL - Project Name or Parts

EXAMPLES:
CASTING CALL - The Logan Chronicles

That way, people looking for new roles can easily see what is out there, and I can easily see casting call threads and make sure your casting call gets up on the Fan Audio Classifieds area of Fanworks.

----------

3. On casting calls, please be so kind as to let us know when casting is finished. That way, the casting call thread can be locked to keep people from trying out for things that are already done with. That will also allow me to know when to pull casting calls from the Fan Audio Classifieds on Fanworks.

----------

4. On the subject of polls: On the Galactic Senate boards, polls at one time were out of control. To maintain order, polls were given their own separate board, which can be accessed from the main page.

At times, however, such as in any official People's Choice Awards sponsored by StarWarsFanworks.com, there will be a need for polls to be enabled on this board.

Please note, however, that this is only enabled for official purposes. Any polls not part of an official Fanworks activity must be removed or moved to the Detention Block: Polls and Surveys board. This allows us to both adhere to overall Galactic Senate practices and still pull off a nice People's Choice Awards ceremony each year.

----------

5. While Fanworks and the Galactic Senate are dedicated to Star Wars discussion, I have no problem with Star Wars fan audio creators who start to branch into other projects and want to post casting calls or discussion threads for those other projects. However, to make these non-SW topics easily avoidable for those who have come for Star Wars discussion only, please ensure that the title of the new project's "genre" is in the thread topic line.

Example: In April 2004, a project called "Murder Reborn" began. It was for Forgotten Realms, rather than Star Wars. Thus, the thread topic needed to say "Forgotten Realms - Murder Reborn" rather than just "Murder Reborn." Easy, yes?

Bear in mind, however, that this allowance is for the SW community to branch out, not for other franchise projects to have a dumping ground for what amounts to off-topic discussion here. The approach decided upon when this came up in August 2004 is as follows:

T'Bone has often put emphasis on how these are SW boards, not general discussion (minus the general discussion board specifically for that purpose). So, at the moment, *if* a non-SW fan audio project team wants to *discuss* or post cast/crew calls (i.e. *not* spam) on the Fanworks/Fan Audio board, I'll allow it, insofar as those individuals are actively part of the SW fan audio community or become part of it upon posting. I will *not* be allowing direct off-topic, non-SW fan audio threads *if* there is no topicality to it (that is, no SW fan audio community members involved, and it's basically a standalone just trying to get some play by posting on a board not for its particular franchise).

In other words, non-SW fan audio productions done with the involvement of SW fan audio community members are fair game. Non-community, non-SW, and thereby 100% off topic for a SW Fan Audio board topics, are not.

----------

Fairly easy stuff, and mostly it's stuff that's already being done, but I wanted to make the "unofficial policy" that forum members have already been using into an "official policy" for the Fanworks board.

Happy posting! Be sure to let us know of any fan audio news for your projects, and I'll be glad to get them up ASAP!

Update on Civility:

I've had a discussion with T'Bone and learned a bit on how civility is being handled using the warns system on the rest of the GS system. I've strayed away from it because I tend to like to think of the fan audio community as somewhat separate from the broader community, and I don't like to use official warns when it effects the entire system.

Well, that hands-off on warns approach is gone.

I've been informed that, generally speaking, incivility can and often will merit a "warn." In other words, "That audio drama sucks!" is not civil. Giving reasons, sure. Giving opinions, sure. But the incivility issue has been raised, and apparently it's a lot more generally strict than I tend to go for, but in order to keep things generally consistent, it'll be a bit more "eyed" than normal.

Usually, things are pretty well civil anyway, but bear it in mind. In theory, many of the late February comments from BOTH sides in the CR #19 arguing could and likely would have merited a warn if it wasn't me modding this particular board.

Consider thyselves updated.

If searching for a thread for a particular project, please see starwarsfanworks.com (http://www.starwarsfanworks.com), where all projects have a Galactic Senate link to their exact discussion thread on their project pages. These are constantly updated as new projects are released and new Official Discussion threads are created.
