people seem to detest ewoks almost as much as they detest jar jar. am i the only one that likes the ewok films? granted, i haven't seen them for years, but i think i'll rent them again soon. one problem with the movies is that they don't (at least i believe they don't) have the traditional star wars opening with the scrolling text and whatnot. in fact, if my memory serves me correct, i believe the first film opened documentary style with a narrator describing ewok habits and so forth. i did enjoy the second one, battle for endor, much more than i did the first, partially because the little girls family dies at the very beginning. anyway. i've always liked the ewoks (in spite of the ease of their rotj victory).
It's pretty apparent I like one of the characters from the movies. :D

Oh yeah! Teek was that little rat thing that ran like Sonic the Hedgehog...
I'd love to see those movies again but they haven't been released in the UK for 10 years. Didn't the Ewoks speak english in the second one? All I remember is Cindel (thats her name right?) playing with a horse. Oh and that really evil demon bloke who scared the s*** outta me when I was a kid. And a witch with a magic ring. Oooh, it's all comming back... *Nostalgic flashback style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif *

Huh? The Ewok movies were horrible. I'm dissapointed they made them. Sure they were great for little kids, but I didn't like them; not even as a little kid. :) They should have definantly left them out. I mean, they even had giant spiders in them. ??? If they had possibly been a bit more serious and not centered around a family who crash landed on Endor; it might have been better

As I said in another thread, I couldn't even make it through all of the 1st Ewok movie. *I didn't even bother to watch TBFE. *
These films, along with the Holiday Special, will be available on a special disk in the OT DVD package once they are released as an added bonus for the loyal SW fans *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif .

When I was a kid I liked it. But at that time I liked anything Starwars. I haven't seen it in a very long time so, I don't remember a single thing about it.

I remember only a bit of it; it was somewhat interesting, but I don't remember it as a triumph in movie-making. One of the reasons I thought they were less than fantastic was because of my dislike of the Ewoks. I thought they were too silly to be taken seriously.

I found the first one to be pretty bad. I mean, there's only so much cutsey-wutsiness you can take, especially with such poorly done Gorax effects.
The second one redeemed the duo, though. It looked much cleaner, more crisp, and had one of the biggest bloodbaths in any SW film or telemovie.

When you were a kid you were not that cynical. You don't sit there and think: "My god, the special effects and story are terrible!" As a child I enjoyed these movies, but like most 'grown-ups', I'll probably have a strong distaste to it. Then again, no matter how bad the Holiday Special is, I still can't help but enjoy it. *Which makes me want to see the Ewoks more than ever, I know they can't be thaaaat bad...
Oh, and they don't have Bea Arthur singing in a crape cantina set made out of cardboard...

They are not all that bad, but they aren't all that great, IMHO. It is true that kids would appreciate them more than us. I wouldn't consider myself cynical, just mildly skeptical. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

i do remember being somewhat bored with the first movie, but the second was neato. it satisfies my thirst for star wars more than eu crap anyway.
o b gates...where did you get your information for the star wars dvd set? do you happen to know if the original unaltered star wars trilogy will be included or at least available seperately?

Just made it up. *Didn't you get my rather unsuccessful attempt at sarcasm? *I don't know, but I hope that the original SW DVD set will be available as well as the SE.

I signed petition to get these bad boys on DVD. Ewoks on DVD. Wow. Yeah the second one was the best with all the ewok killing and stuff. Those ewoks are the best warriors in the galaxy (they beat the Empire!).
I remember the cartoons. Did NOT like them at all. Didn't like the Droids cartoon either.
Thought they were stupid because they were.

I'm surprised there isn't already a thread on it but...
I'm currently "acquiring" The Battle for Endor and gotta say it's a lot more brutal then I remember. Cindels entire family get wiped out in the first 10 minutes!
See, it's nigh on impossible to get in the UK and I haven't seen it since I was a young innocent sith apprentice on my beaten Beta Max copy in the States.
I just wondered if any of you folks remember the specials. Or the fact that Wicket and Co. speak english(?!?).

Darhy I saw the second one I think about 3 years ago, i really like it, except for the horse the witch rides and some dumb things couldn't see how it ended though. If you have some time please send me a pm about how you "acquired" it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I've got both of them. You can still find them some places, as legal store-bought copies. I had them taped from TV for years, but it's nice to have real, crisp, clear ones. And, yes, the opening of BFE is brutal.

All the video shops in the UK either sold them or chucked them. The only other stuff I've seen is the cartoon series.

LOL poor teek.
Yeah I got it last night, didn't have to wait in "line", the "thing" just started and in an hour and a half i had the first part, then proceeded to get the second part, didn't have to wait for that one either, just an hour and half too and it was done.

Well I just watched it for the first time since I was seven. It's 'kin ace. A real feel good factor, something you don't get nowdays. The music was pretty special too.
Also, Teek is without a doubt the coolest mofo (as T'Bone might say) since Sam Jackson. Only with more hair.
AND if you wanna hear an Ewok say "Oh, Shiit" this is the film for you. Frendon and Co., watch the second half as Wicket is caught up in one of Noah's traps and the evil blokes are about to shoot him. An Ewok who picked up a pistol kills 2 of the 3 and runs out of ammo, looks at his gun and clearly says "Oh, Shiit!", to the fact that its clean outta ammo.
Excellent.

QUOTE

Are "Caravan of Courage" and "Battle for Endor" the only two that were made? [/b][/quote]
To answer the unanswered: Yes, they only made those two. Those two, plus the Holiday Special, make up the only live-action EU materials presented on television, and some of only a scant handful of live-action EU materials that exist at all.
goodwije
11-22-2003, 01:55 AM
Does The Holiday Special count as EU.. and do you incorporate it in the timeline?
Nathan Butler
11-22-2003, 02:19 AM
It does these days, unfortunately. For the longest time, it was referred to as apocryphal, since GL didn't particularly like that it was still being passed around out there, but now LucasBooks has sort of retroactively added back to continuity, kind of like they did with the non-Bantam stuff in the early continuity days, when they decided to pull in the old Del Rey Lando and Han books.
goodwije
11-22-2003, 03:32 AM
Well i do not know about unfortunantly, i know GL doesnt like the SWHS but come on, i mean it happened he can't go back in time and keep it from being released. "Splinter of the Minds Eye" is further off continuity wise than the holiday special is, if memory serves.
Just becuase we already off topic. Do you think there is any chance of more live action EU in the future. Their are rumors that a Live Action TV show is being discussed.

I actually kinda liked these movies. I mean, sure, they may be kiddy and have crappy special effects, but they were low budget made for TV childrens movies. I get a kick put of the ewok named Widdle, a slang word for urination is Australia. All things considered, the 'magic' (the crazy ass lake, Morag, etc.) elements were pretty lame.

here on the latin fox they keep showing them every week, seems like they don't have anything better to show style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif anyway, I really dislike the matter it is totally out of the Star Wars context, it's just a whole new history with witches and ewoks with special powers who speak english xD but out of the star wars it's an ok movie for kids, i watched them once and their ok, they could be worst style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif I would have prefered they stayed within the context...

Just watching these again over the last couple of days. The first one is pretty poor but I actually quite like the second one. They got the feel of Star Wars right (though the witch is out of place).
I was thinking the same about the Droids cartoon. They may be pretty low quality but the art style was spot on. I love the look of the ships and 'sets'.
