I'm planning a Fan Audio Play, and I like some hints on how to do it, and actors to play in it. It is called "The Battle of Rattia VII: A Second Clone Wars stroy." style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/y.gif

The earlier thread you posted has a general idea of the steps to go through. You should get it all finished in the writing stage first. Have it ready to go, and you should either have it in proper script formatting or you should have timed yourself doing a full reading of it with the right inflection and pauses, so you can get an idea of how long it'll run.

Once you've done that, you go to this board and others, and post casting calls, telling people what parts are needed, a brief description of them and how large the roles are, and how to get audition clips to you.

From there, you can do casting.

Don't post the entire script. That ruins any story surprises. Just send it to those who audition, or put up test lines for people to audition with and email the script to those who actually get parts. That's the best medium.

So . . . did this ever go anywhere? Any word on if a script's written, or whatnot?

Hints on writing:

Rise of Nobility was a major team effort. Yes, I wrote the script, but I had some serious help. The best advice I can give you is to have some good evaluators who can give your script a good critique. You can't be thin-skinned if you want the best possible product.

I started out with a story treatment, which I tried out on folks. It had some holes in it, which I found the perfect person to help fill in. When I got a story that some serious Star Wars fans liked, then I started writing. I didn't want to waste time on a story no one would like.

I had two groups of evaluators: The Moisture Farm Co-op, who could check it for Star Wars facts and that general Star Wars quality that fans want, and a professional writers' group who could critique both my writing and how I was telling the story. I also had major problems writing for Jar Jar, so I had one evaluator whose main job was to make the Jar Jar dialogue as close to the character as possible.

I don't think our script would have been nearly as good without all the outside opinions I got. I strongly advise getting other people's opinions before beginning production. Good places to go for critique would be, say, Nathan or someone else who's done a few audio productions, any serious Star Wars fan --especially someone who likes the kind of story you are trying to do and has read extensively in that genre -- plus some serious fan writers like the folks who run the juried archive on theForce.net. I used to work on that archive, and I bet some of those folks would be willing to take a look at a radio script. A professional writer's group is terrific if you can find one.

On the Rise of Nobility website I have a commentary that tells more about the writing process.

Good luck with your project. I know most of us are glad ours is over with!!
