I'm pleased to announce that the new fan audio drama series, "Star Wars: Anthology" has now officially released its fifth episode, "Star Wars: Responsibility," an original story that acts, in a sense, as a prequel story to "Star Wars: Second Strike" in that it features Kal S'Darcis.
The project stars Matthew Gordon, Amy Ferrell, and Brian Bisetti.

Thanks. It was my favorite, right up there with Dreamscape, so that's why I saved it for the last of "Nathan's Five." Now it's all guest writers and a new mixer (who is more talented than I), Steve Fluharty.
Meanwhile, I work on the 2S sourcebook. You'll be surprised to learn just how the actions in Responsibility not only give us a backstory for Kal S'Darcis from Second Strike, but also have a major impact on the history of the Danvians, Lanas Zlauter's culture . . .
The "Second Strike Sourcebook" is actually going to be based on 2S, but have an appendix that is devoted entirely to the first five episodes of Anthology, the ones I wrote.

well, i like it! of course, i'm completely in love with Kal S'Darcis (or maybe just his voice? *giggle*).... too bad my recording setup bites the big one! hopefully my performance isn't quite as bad...

Hehe, at least you almost get to hook up with him in the story, right? A long trip, all alone with him...

Anyway, anyone else have any thoughts on the episode?

Wow, Ms. Ferrell, I didn't realize my voice was so... pleasing to you...
Maybe there IS something to be gained from doing these radio dramas after all....

Nathan: Is it cool if I devote an entire paragraph of a Responsibilty review (like, whenever I decide to do the thing) to the greatness of Matthew Gordon? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif

"The greatness of Matthew Gordon..." I like the sound of that...
(head explodes from too much ego boosting)
Hey Nathan, when's the next episode coming out? And Amy, what kind of set up do you have for sound recording. You seem to think it may not be up to par. I can give you voice recording advice if you wish (only technically speaking of course, your acting is spot on)...
I'm very happy with the way the recordings have sounded in the the last two anthology episodes but... (not to be picky of course) some recordings sound tinnier than others, even with the excellent mixing done by one Nathan Butler... so I can recommend some good microphones/software for recording.

well, for my part, I'm done with audio dramas for a bit. However, the Anthology series now moves into original tales by other writers, mixed by Steve Fluharty. There are two currently being worked on, but no set target release date.

Actually, a set of guidelines or suggestions might be really helpful to make sure the quality is evened out for the voice actors recording their material. What do you think, Nathan?

Yes I noticed the discrepancy too - not that I can do much better. But a list of tips & tricks would be very helpful!
Thanks!

We can come up with one, certainly. THe biggest problem on my end, frankly, is that I give that a second rung to performance. My goal has been not so much to have professional levels of file quality in mixing, but to include as many new people as I can and use Anthology as a gateway for the genre itself. I can recommend mixing programs and give a few tips on recording files, but when it comes to hardware, that's not my area of expertise.

It all sounded fine to me...
After about the first four minutes, you forget about the quality of the recording and really just concentrate on the performances.

Yep, and it continues to prove the old comment from Chris Hanel that someday, either Hanel or I owe Matthew Gordon a beer.
And, yes, we owe Amy as well, but we won't get into that . . . style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

11-29-2003, 11:42 PM
You're too young! I'll buy everyone beers, then I'll rob them all blind when they're passed out.
See, easy.
But wait, that's immoral, which goes back to the idea of Anthology as Star Wars fables, which...
Brings us back to the original topic.
Sorta.

I listened to it again tonight in preparation for a forthcoming writing project, and I really must say:
I don't care if Amy Ferrell's recording equipment sounds like total crap, her voice still kicks ass!! Wow! Wow!
Matthew Gordon is great too, but I dished on him during my Dreamscape review enough for today.
Just had to get that off my chest, nighty night. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif

aha! this is what i get for not coming here more often! i've missed all sorts of responses that were aimed my way!
at any rate, i'm using a rather beat-up old mic that's labeled "KOSS" and "www.koss.com" and "i15". it's the same color blue as the original iMacs, and it's actually my roomie's, who probably got it with her original iMac.
i'd like to get a new one, but i don't even know what to look for....
for software, i use Total Recorder 4.3 Standard Edition. i use my laptop for recordings since it's the quietest pc i can find.
i'll take any and all advice, of whatever sort, i can get! so please, advise away!
and thank you!
